I've not come across this before, any chance of a link? Edit - Google. Should have tried before I asked. Don't worry about the LINK

Its now a silly little image located with Difficulty & Terrain. The size of the little square tells you the size of the cache (roughly). I'd much rather the text back!
-
All nice and normal for me in the UK.
-
Its not a bad site. However it still seems strange that its down to 3rd parties to provide this kind of service. (And should I ask how that site can display data when i'm not allowed to?)
-
I'll second that. My only cache (currently) is adopted!

Hi, Having done work on the BIG Quest website before OldGimmer stopped his work on Big Quest I think it would be a shame to stop now. Therefore I am thinking of continuing the work myself. However it would probably involve a fair amount of time. So, a quick straw-poll to see if this is still of interest to you all. Could you leave simple Yes (interested) or No (not interested) replies. Then i'll see if it is worth carrying on.

I'm not really sure why reviewer notes that are only seen by the cache owner show up in the list. Its not of any interest to the viewer. I've also seen several new caches with logged visits saying 1, the 'found' icon saying 0 and then 2 people claiming FTF & 2nd find. This must be the same bug as the OPs

Or even better, save the streetmap image onto the camera directly, even better quality! Or even a colour iPod, I hear lots of people have those...

Calculating Lat/Long distances with PHP
Bambography replied to Bambography's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Cheers for these suggestions, I take a look when I get a proper chance! Thanks! -
I'm probably worng with this, but didn't the right navigation used to cut into the cache page. I'm no expert on tables so don't know if it possible, but if there wasn't an empty column under the menu it would save loads of empty space. I'm done a quick knock-up to show what I mean but didn't move the map or downloads round (as I would do)
-
A fair point however in my case it is actually a race between several owners although I guess a seach on name would work only if we named them together in some way. I'd actually pay for 'Platinum' membership if there were an option for getting bonus data such as this. I think that currently this is the best $36 (I pay monthly) I spend! Bargin I say!

Spacing is the biggest issue. It looks fine on larger browsers but we're trying to accommodate smaller browsers as well. Would it not make more sense for the map to be with the location info and for the downloads to go into the menu on the right where 'Send to Phone' used to be? A small downloads menu would work ok over there, and surely if Log Your Visit (the main thing anyone will do on a cache page) only gets a small link how come 'Send to GPS' gets such preferable treatment?
-
So the map is working again for me. I really do appreciate all the work you guys are doing to get the site running smoother, but I have to ask, why move the little map? It was far more logical where it was in the box with other location info. I think these tweeks are starting to go one step to far. Surely there are better things to be getting on with?
-
Errmm.. I think I'd notice if there was a map . It is not there, it has gone. <snipped image> Exactly how i'm seeing it!
-
I agree. The latest version looks good. But where has the top map gone? There's just a load of whitespace there now. Look top right, above the cache action links. Nope, not for me! Not been there at all today! And what was wrong with where it was, along with the location info which is what the map was showing!!! Why when it all seemed to settle down are there more changes?
-
Surely the best way to stop anyone scraping then would be to make information available to others to use as they wish. The new look to the site and the My Friends feature all seems to suggest a move towards a more community based site, and with so many people having their own site, why not let people access basic information such as location(or holder) and distance travelled. Other sites seem to be opening up whereas here they seem to be locked tight and not about to budge. Allowing people to feature info on their own site will actually encourage people to visit. If as the OP says you have 4 TBs and want a distance comparison i'd not click through 4 links, make a note of them all and work out whos winning a race. I'd like to see a tidy list.
-
Can someone define scraping for those of us not so smart?

<br> will also give you a line break <center> centralised text </centre> Further to this, i'd like to add pictures that are not stored on Geocaching.com. Why do any external html img links not display? Surely its not any extra work for the website if I am hosting a graphic myself?
-
I agree however i'm not even seeing a map at the top at all. I liked it as it was! Also think that Send to Phone and Send to GPS are better in the right menu, I can't see that laarge numbers of people actually use these.

I'm trying to write myself a webpage for a travel bug that shows distance to a target cache. So, due to extreme laziness I wondered if anyone has a script for calculating the distance between 2 lat/long coordinate that they don't mind sharing to save me trying myself. Thanks in advance for any help!

Billy Twigger's recovery
Bambography replied to Firth of Forth's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Glad to hear of the continued recovery. Is there any way someone could place a cache outside the unit that he'd be able to do in his chair? Might me a nice consideration! -
I seemed to get loads over the weekend but didn't check the published dates. But looked ok to me..?!
-
Thanks for adding the OS grid references back on British Caches!! Very useful here! Also, i'm getting the issue with the 2nd, larger map not showing, just the spinning wheel (IE 6.0.2)

Well said! Couldn't have put it better myself!

Petition: Bring back OS Grid Refs!
Bambography replied to gavmoir's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Load of great suggestions, but links are useless on the bit of paper I'll have in my pocket when i'm out. Some people want to go caching, not plan caching. Bring them Back!
