I too prefer caching at winter and last year (my first) found more over the winter than during the summer. I am a gluten for the added fun of night caching though. Nothing like going round a graveyard looking for a specific headstone with only a torch for light

* Sits back following the opening of a massive can of worms...* Following the debate on the BIG Quest thread, I think Groundspeak will pick whatever is currently 'officially recognised' and go with it. I doubt very much we'll get to choose the list they use!

Correct. When Exporting your database ready for sending to the handheld you can use smart tags in the waypoint name box (I think thats what its called, i've not got it here in the office). To exclude the GC from the start of the code use %drop2 in that box and all will be good with the world. Further to that, my GPS holds 10 characters so I use these smart names to give me more info in the waypoint name, %drop2 %typ1-%con1%bug=# %drop2 - This gives me the 4/5 digit code, no GC, %typ1 - A one letter code for the type of cache, T-Trad, M-Multi etc %con1 - One letter container size, M-Micro, S-small, R-Regular, L-Large, U-Unknown %bug=# - Adds a # to any entry where GSAK lists a TB. just so I can keep an eye out when I get there. I know that has wondered a little OT and is no help for a 6 digit system, but thought it was fitting to add it here.

I have an Airobee, would that be cheating? -
From what I can see it includes Benelux mapping. Not too much use unless you are planning a trip over to our smaller neighbours.

I'd never heard of BOSMAS until reading this thread, and I took A Level maths not 10 years ago. I think if people are going to make such in-depth equations they need to make it clear to everyone (including those without good mathematical knowledge) how the equation should be solved. Maybe some kind of check-sum should be included. If there is any chance of ambiguity people should encourage cachers to contact the owner before attempting it. (Unless of course a quick check proves the 'other' solution to be unrealistic/impossible etc.

or www.ukgeocachers.co.uk stock them.

No. (A+B/C) always means A+(B/C), and it's not at all ambiguous. Multiplication and division takes precedence over addition and subtraction. Bodmas is right. But unless you knew that multiplication and division takes precedence it is ambiguous....

Why go all that way when he was in London? Also giving out Lackey coins Sadly they hadn't got enough coins with them though, so some of us missed out!

Change to the Geocaching.com Google Map

I must be missing something too!! Whats all the excitment about?? -
One thought for Swindon is, How often does it open? Surely for this exhibit to work and infact come here, it would need to be somewhere that is open daily, have a good turn over of joe public and obviously be accessible to as many cachers as possible! As nice and perfect that swindon would be, as far as I can see its only open for their events of which there is only one more listed for this year, therefore I don't think it would work there. It is currently at a museum and cultural exhibit, so is there anywhere like that in the midlands that would hold it?

From what i've read in the past these are not allowed and TPTB have been known to remove the html. However I don't know why they don't jsut strip the HTML from the TB name form when the TB is set up in the first place.

Depending on how this vote system works, shouldn't we all be putting in the same Postcode to stand a better chance of showing up on the system?? If the Science Museum is the right sort of place (and having been there it certainly looked it last weekend) then what is its postcode?

This was a reply I made to a different thread however I think it is a very useful tip! If you use CacheMate when out on the hunt you can add notes to any entry at any point. Just tap where you want to add your notes to insert the cursor then type away. This works in the main description, names, titles, logs etc. If I am on holiday or a big caching day I use this to rename the title/name to include a count (ie 01-this cache, 02-that cache) so I can easily see what order I did the caches in (although the time is stored if you use the 'Log' section to its full capability.

I use CacheMate on my Palm M515 and find it very easy & quick to use. You can have multiple databases with as many waypoints as the memory will allow. I use GSAK to load it as it does a nice job of personalising the data to suit my way of thinking (amending waypoint names/codes). It will also feed the file directly to HotSync ready for the Palm next time you connect. The database itself allows you to add information as you go (just tap where you want to add/amend and type what you want) This is very useful on Multis or on a long day/holiday when you need to keep note of TB movements. I also always note the TB code straight on the cache I pick it up from so I should never miss the code when I drop it again. Another tip is that you can categorise each cache. I always add a new category 'ToDo' which I move all the caches for the day to. Then once i've done them I change them to the 'Found' category and amend the name of the cache to #01 - This Cache, #02 - That cache so I can log them in the correct order when I get home. There are many other things it can do (Searching for nearest from coords etc) but I don't use them often.

I'd not heard great things about the N95 either. A friend has it and whilst on a bike from Shepards Bush to Central London it still thought he was in New York from 3 days earlier. He only uses it for the mapping.

3000!!! Congratulations!!!

HOW MANY?????? Very good going!! Well done!!

I'm afraid 'Horrid Henry' is currently down for Wrexham.

Or why hasn't the owner at least temped it so they can check. These days if that happens to us and there is no reply from the owner we post an SBA so that the reviewers can at least temp it. This just stops anyone else from wasting their time on it. Following these I always put a Needs Maintainance note. I assume that some people just don't know about this, or are afraid to use it.

You're happily searching away, no joy.... check the hint... no joy... Read the previous logs on the PDA... 5 DNFs - D'oh! Why oh Why didn't I notice that before!!!
