Anyone up for the Oficial Mega Event TB Race
Bambography replied to Munkeh's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Excellent! I'm going to be in on this! -
I'm hoping to be there. Planning what/when/how etc is causing a few issues which I hope to have ironed out soon! Indeed, I believe the only time I have met you I was told to be on guard of my recently produced chips!

Wish i'd known that yesterday! When I called I said I was part of the Geocaching event: "The what" 'Geocaching.' "Right...." 'The Piratemania Event!' "Oh right, wheres that happening?" 'Urm, there, Pindale Farm' "Really? Whos running that?" 'Urm, .... ur....Popuppirate....' (your name failed me!) 'Hmmm....' 'On the 25th, 26th & 27th July..' "The treasure hunt?" 'Yes!! Thats the one' "The internet, technical, treasure hunt" 'Yup! Its called Geocaching" "Right, so you want to book in do you?" And so it went on..... Very helpful she was, particularly in term of clarifying the trailer tent position. They say no caravans as the approach lane is quite thin but she did say that the bin lorry can manage it, albeit slowly in places. So if you are happy to tow your trailer tent down that then there you go.

I cycled a section of the Kennet and Avon canal fining about 39 caches. In place of a link (my iPod doesn't do copy/paste) visit GCK87H. There is a bookmark list with them on it there.

I'd just like to step in and support you on that Mandy. I think it only fair that one or two answers are given as this impacts us all. I only hope that they can see how we all feel and respond appropriately.

Geocoins - who in the UK has the most?
Bambography replied to The Cache Hoppers's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Thanks for the link that slowed down my connection Glad I am on broadband. The next question is how many different coins are there Thought i'd see what all the fuss was about - Now wish I hadn't!! -

Surely by putting a box out in a public area you are willingly putting it somewhere that might get stolen! If of were muggled we'd consider it lost, not stolen, its a risk of the game. However, I don't agree with it not being in the guidelines as it discourages the good Samaritan from tidying up the abandoned caches, whatev the legal stance is.

Geocoins - who in the UK has the most?
Bambography replied to The Cache Hoppers's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
...and my partner told me that I must be a valued customer of coinsandpins.com! I've got a whopping 20! I'm not sure I would get away with buying that many, even if I could afford it! -
I'd originally signed up using a slightly more basic 'cpbamber', then realised that of was slightly more than a logging name. I decided to change it to match my website that i'd not long created 'Bambography'. The following day a friend tried to change theirs nut the function had gone!

Which larger ammo cans? The steel lock down lid type, with 30 cal or whatever written on the side - or the one's that my local surplus shop's got in at the moment, that are about 3 feet long and 18 inches across...? Those are a bit bigger than I was thinking, although they sound like the ones outside my local store that i'm having a careful think about..... Spot on, thats for that Cheers!!

Q: How many cachers does it take to make an Event?
Bambography replied to The Blorenges's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Oh, Oh, I might have to join you for that one!!! Wanted to get out there for a while now. This might be the excuse I need! -
Random question of the day.... Can anyone tell me the INTERNAL dimensions of one of the larger ammo cans? Our local shop doesn't have any in stock at the moment and i'm 'planning' something but need the measurements before I start. I'm expecting it to be in the region of 11x7x5.5 inches. Anyone?

I've had a few things but I now have a wooden coin which I burn my little logo into and try and write on the back of. Not as neat as the wooden nickels but more personal. I like the idea of creating a series of them for people to try and collect with a view to a prize... will have a think in that one.

Advice re taking over someone's cache..Again!
Bambography replied to Gordy n Steph's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
There is a process that the reviewers will take you through. You've done right so far, showing willing to maintain the cache. The system is something like: Email the owner (copy in a reviewer) or post a note stating a wish to maintain it. Wait a month for a reply. Reviewer then posts a similar note and again, wait a month for a reply. If nothing happens then the reviewer can force an adoption. I did this and it was a painless process, just slightly slow, but then you do have to wait in case people are away etc... however in your case I think there will be no issues. -
Hi there, Its very easy to go paperless. The main bit is getting the set up right for what you want and how far you want to go with it all. I've spent about £30ish and the only paper I now carry is OS mapping, although with a little more expense this can be paperless too. 1. Pocket Queries - You need to be a Premium Member to get these but they are essential for paperless. 2. PDA - I got a Palm M515 from ebay for about £10 + p&p. This then runs: 3. CacheMate. This Displays all the cache information you chose to send it. The best method for doing this is from: 4. GSAK - Geocaching Swiss Army Knife. This is a database software that you can use to load the GPS and palm. The alternative to the Palm is a pocket PC. In my experience these have both advantages and disadvantages. The con is Battery life (although others may disagree) but the Pocket PC I uses wouldn't last a day caching, my palm will last a weeks holiday. The Pro is the other things you could run on it. Memory Map is a mapping program that gives you OS mapping on yourhome computer but you can also send it to a Pocket PC to carry in the field. If the Pocket PC is GPS enabled/attached, then it will pinpoint your location directly on the map! Anyway, I hope that gives you something to be working on, i'm sure others will give thier opinion before too long!

Yes, i'd/we'd be up for this! Sounds like a great night! However, I suspect that requiring payment or asking for donations would make it commercial, and therefore I guess you'd have to make the money back through donations or some kind of fund raising. Only thing there is I doubt you can separate those that have donated from those that just turn up for the event. Unless part of the event takes place before the boat leaves and you only have to attend any part of it to count....

The All New All New Groundspeak UK Pub Quiz
Bambography replied to Simply Paul's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
What are the rules on googling answers etc? Not played along with this thread before but the questions are quite interesting and although I didn't know this one, I found the answer very quickly with a quick search....
