Not sure, really does depend on how fit you are. I did that set last September and having got off the train at about 8ish and cycling to the beam engine to start we finished in the dark, probably about 12 hours later. Neither of us are particularly fit and certainly havn't cycled 40miles in a day for about 10years! we did take on the pillars cache up above Kintbury too which is quite a slog up the hill! Much of the tow path is grass so takes longer than you expect. (we did also miss one due to the 'cache along a route' not quite following the canal, so watch out for that) It was a cracking day out though i have to say, good luck!

So, now I know the reason for the rather random route we'll be taking on the way back from Penzance next week. An interesting job! I make road and street atlases of the UK and so you may think that I've got a good job for it. However, sadly not. I rarely get out of the office! Never mind.

For the main stats on my profile I use "Cache Stats" which can be found on Logicweaves website. Worth playing with as you can pick and choose what to include. As it sounds like you've already discovered itsnotaboutthenumbers.com then if you are asking about including other images then if you just find a basic HTML tutorial then you should be able do do most things.

I'm excited about the GPS-enabled iPhone
Bambography replied to Cache4Ever's topic in GPS technology and devices
Me too! I have all sorts of grand plans in my head, but not the know-how. I signed up to the SDK and opened the 'Hello World' sample which typed Hello World with a picture of a globe. There were so many little files I got scared and closed it down. Not been back, as much as i'd like to... -
I always find it handy to have a penknife on me.... http://www.firebox.com/product/1861/Wenger...wiss-Army-Knife Edit to say I missed the bit about budget.....

There is already a discussion on this going on in the main GPS/Tech forum (here). It sounds like Tom Tom already have software working on the iPhone so i'm sure with the GPS built-in its fairly certain that it will be available in the Apple App store when it launches. As for a caching app, that would require someone who is a) into caching and have the drive to get something decent written. However with the right knowhow, a GSAK for iPhone is entirely possible - Wouldn't that be great! Download the database, run your queries etc, click the cache, and go get it!

Calling All UK Scouts & Guides
Bambography replied to Sinclair of Rosslyn's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I'm just starting all this with my scout (tonight, in fact) and although there will be a group log in I won't be giving them the password. Initially at least. Once I know they have respect for the game I might trust them. The email address linked to the account will be firmly under my control. -
New paperless caching unit required....
Bambography replied to harrogate hunters's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Give it a couple of hours and the 'new iPhone' might have been released. With GPS rumored it might be interesting... Edited to add: Someone will of course need to write a caching app suitable for PQs etc too.... -
if I've read the search page correctly we're about to reach the next big milestone for the UK, 30,000 active caches. Who'll get the honour of placing it this time? Will it be the Cache Hoppers again? Will it be me? (doubtful!)

Event caches - any top tips for finding them?
Bambography replied to scottpa100's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Does that show everything currently active in the UK? if so we're almost due Cache 30,000 celebrations! I remember the 20k talk on the forums not that long ago! -
Event caches - any top tips for finding them?
Bambography replied to scottpa100's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I have a PQ for events and it works fine. Using all the various options you can narrow it down. Tick the options to only show caches that 'have not been found' and 'are active' - This removes past events as they will get logged veruly quickly then no longer show up. The only draw back is if some numpty logs an attend instead of a Will Attend, but a slim chance of happening. Also Tick Country and select United Kingdom to resrict it to here. That seems to work for me, how ever a self updating UK calendar would be great! I might have a play on my website at somepoint, although running a calendar from PQs, does that count as site skimming? -
I was thinking recently that they had increased. My old GPS held 500 waypoints so I used to run a PQ of 300 caches to allow for upto 200 AWs. I used to get about 150 which was handy as it allowed for adding in some waypoints on the fly. Now however I notice it filling up quickly leaving very little, if any space for me to add some without deleting while on the hunt.

I am assuming that Pirate dress is as good as compulsary, I don't want to be the geek at the party! That said, I'll have to take your word for it even on here! Anything else you recommend we bring along? Anything we need to plan for?

Thought i'd already added my congrats to thisthread but it appears not, so Well done Bob!!!!

I think i'll probably join you for the Friday night. I like the look of the site there. However, both Troytown and the Garrison won't let you arrive/depart on the Sunday as there are no boats between islands so to avoid the risk of being 'trapped' on St Anges i'm going to be on St Mary's for Saturday night onwards methinks.

I'm sure many of you have heard this one before, but heres ANOTHER SONG

Raine- Going back to something you suggested earlier, Region would be a much better term than City. On my local caches, 'City' overs several seperate large towns and a lot of countryside. I realise you have some very large cities over there, but Region would describe it much better here in the UK and, i suspect, in much of the world.

Look out, look out, there's a thief about
Bambography replied to Pharisee's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Not a bad idea. Just a set pattern of nail dents or, even better, use letter stamps like those used to 'postcode' bikes. Does mean you'll be checking all the cans you find (assuming you've had one nicked). sorry to hear these are disappearing. Especially as there is on in the kitchen waiting for me to finish 'creating' the cache. -
I've got the Garmin eTrex Vista HCx which does have the proximity beeper. I also believe the 60 CSx does too. So far i've seen that you can setup individual waypoints to beep however this is a little tedious with 1000 in memory. So, what i'd like to know is, is there a way to automatically programme ALL caches to trigger the alarm automatically?

Bambography replied to little-miss-naughty's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
After my DNF on JCB earlier in the year I certainly don't want it to go so I can give it another shot when I'm next down there!! Hope someone can take it on!
