  1. I've received artwork for the Auckland coin - there are a couple of colouring mistakes, which I'm working through with Michael, no worries - but there seem to be a couple of issues with the actual coin itself and I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed the same. The levels on my artwork for approval don't match the levels on the artwork from avroair - some of the detail is shown as top level when on avroair's artwork they are shown as lower level that would be covered by colour. The areas of detail I'm referring to are: The square/spiral detail in the 2nd-from-outside ring (12 sided) on the front, the "dots and squiggly line" detail in the 4th-from-outside ring (circular), and the square/spiral detail around the very outside of the back of the coin, are all shown as top level whereas avroair's artwork shows them as below the top level and therefore covered by the colour applied to that area. Has anyone else noticed this on theirs or is it just a mistake on the artwork sent to me? Cheers
  2. My vote is $12.00 I would say $12.12 but that is too many pennies to deal with. Every year the price point comes up and there are many opinions on it, but ultimately the event organizer sets the price taking into account what the event goers can handle and overheads in minting and shipping, my shipping last year was $104 so the $11 dollars I set and felt reasonable as a price (along with may other event organizers) but that meant a smaller amount of profit from the coin sales to put back into the event... so it was a quiet affair, this year will be bigger so the coin price may increase to off set what I have planned. Just my 12+ dollars worth We'll probably sell ours in Auckland, NZ, at 15-16NZD (approx 12USD). With the immense shipping cost to get these coins down here, it doesn't leave much in it at all, but we're used to shelling out a bit for our events here. We got a couple of sponsors for our event last year, and what they gave us, plus what we put in (and did not recoup hardly any of) amounted to between $2k and $3k. Everyone enjoyed it, so that's the main thing. This year will probably be pretty similar as we'll have an event on 12-12-12 plus a 12-12-12 "after-party" event on the following Saturday
  3. Can I get clarification on this: "Only ONE glitter or glow or pearl enamel can be used on each side of the coin" Does this mean only one of any of these special types on each side of the coin, or one of each on each side of the coin (ie. a glow, a glitter and a pearl). To me it reads that one a single one from any of these, but if one of each is ok, is it an extra cost for each one added (so if you have a glow and a pearl, it's the extra cost twice)?
  4. I just get broken links and no images here...
  5. Yes, This too, please!! CF30 Yep. I have given Micheal a file without the lines and with 50% gray to show semi-raised. Got it!! Thank you! CF30 where will I find this new art work, not seeing a link anywhere Cheers Yes, it would be really useful if this was posted somewhere so *everyone* can see...
  6. Email sent and invite received, thanks
  7. Nah, I'm not much of a fan of the "Not Yet" theme... and they all look the same (dull grey) Is it the flashing design the bit you're working on with the mint?
  8. Yeah, the "date confusion" multi event series. We can have 132 of those events every year!
  9. I really like the idea of the digital numbers being raised outline instead of raised solid, so they can be coloured in with transparent enamel, as well as the area surrounding the numbers. I think the circuit board texture is also great and no problems colouring it however you want, as demonstrated up above somewhere.
  10. Like +1! Yeah, I like that design. I think I saw someone mentioning the pocket watch cogs etc thing, and it made me think: What about behind that digital display, having a bunch of cogs, pipes etc, like some kind of crazy steam punk machine driving the digital display? Or perhaps a slightly irregular star burst multi-level pattern behind the digital display, like I had on my suggestion way way back up the thread...
  11. Not hard at all. We've organised events in other countries before - in fact the first event we ever organised was in Tiananmen Square, Beijing and then for the 11-11-11 last year, we hosted an event in Auckland, New Zealand and also Apia, Samoa. No problems at all with listing any of those.
  12. The unique feature of the 8/8/8 to 12/12/12 series was that no matter what the date format your country used whether it be DD/MM/YY or MM/DD/YY you could still participate as it didn't matter. Anything with the date beyond 12 is always going to be confusing for one group of people and be fine for the rest. Personally, I think after the 12-12-12 event we should have a 13-13-13 event as the "lucky last" in the series. Of course it would actually be held on the 13th of January 2014.
  13. All good things must come to an end... ...to make way for greater things to come.
  14. As far as an event name goes... it's really just the end of an era. Since the "end of the world" is supposedly the 21st of December, it doesn't really apply, however, this is the last of the n-n-n events for a very long time. 12-12-12 End of an Era Event or soemthing like that, I reckon.
  15. Yeah but then I can't play REM at my event! I am working on a new slogan for that. And need to do some backside artwork. Any ideas for that? I have a few but can look at other options? I still like my digital clock idea for the back - some others do and some others don't. I was just quite keen on the digital numbers and being able to colour them with transparent colours What about something like my design but with a different picture/object/whatever in the middle, but still the kind of explosion/kapow motif? I should also qualify my previous comment about the "rotationally symmetric" design criticism - I do like the mayan style design, although some of the detail might be a little too fine. One thing though, can the writing around the outside be made parallel with the 12 sides, rather than circular? This will look better IMO and may also free up some room to make the internal design a bit bigger and the details not so fine. Finally, please don't include any backsides... Need I remind you, this is a family show. Whatever artwork people do on their backsides, they do so in the privacy of their own homes...
  16. I was really hoping we could move away from a compass-rose-style rotationally symmetric design this time.
  17. I like the idea of a 12 sided coin, and having the mayan calendar on one side. Here's my idea for the other side... I know it's a bit crappy, but I drew it in Word...
  18. After the success of our 11-11-11 event, which was possibly the biggest event NZ had seen up until then, we'll be in again for Auckland, NZ for the 12-12-12. I like the suggestion for a 12 sided coin, depending on cost difference. Also, like the idea of a Mayan calendar theme on one side. How about a digital clock display on the other side reading 12:12:12 (along with other detail) rather than the seemingly traditional rotated repeating pattern of past coins. Just thinking about something a little bit different. Perhaps witht he text "The end of an era..." and "...the start of a new one"? Just some initial thoughts anyway.
  19. Yep, it's completely down at the moment. Might have to move our puzzles to another checker.
  20. Having read through this topic I guess it appears that serial number doesn't seem to relate to this issue, but just wondering where the serial number 2AC000xxx fits into the picture. Got my hands on this about 2 weeks ago, and after a couple of days of using it, the calibration went off a little bit (not unusable, but had to press the top of any particular button) and then last night went out completely with the same symptoms as others have reported - buttons in the bottom right of screen in Portrait mode cannot be pressed, meaning I can't search for a cache by name. Really disappointing.
  21. Finally got around to taking a photo of our Auckland coin...
  22. We had an amazing event in Auckland, New Zealand. Despite being in the evening after a work day, meaning out of towners and families would struggle to attend, we had a small increase in numbers from our 10-10-10 event last year - up from 110 individuals to about 120. We had a variety of games and activities organised and gave away over $2000 worth of prizes. It was a very stressful evening for us in order to make it go smoothly, and everyone seemed to have a great time, which to us was the reward for many weeks of late nights and planning stress. After the event, we had a CITO to clean up, then it was home for about 2 hours before we needed to head off to the airport. That next evening, once again the 11th of November, in Apia, we had a very low key event for Apia, Samoa. Surprisingly, we even had another attendee there, a local who signed up in order to come along and buy some coins off us for their uncle and friends in Germany, who had intended on being there in person but couldn't. Anyway, I don't think I mentioned this before, but I'll describe the theme behind the Auckland (and Apia) coin colour scheme. - Auckland is dominated by water with essentially 3 harbours plus the beautiful Hauraki Gulf, and is often called the City of Sails for all the sailboats seen on the harbour and the gulf, particularly in summer. Flying into Auckland on a Sunny day, the blues in the water are stunning. - The city is also a very green one. The city with it's many tree-lined streets, is dotted with parks and grass-covered hills and volcanic cones. The green also represents the many islands in the Hauraki gulf. - The red is for the city's volcanic past - over tens of thousands of years there has been volcanic activity with over 60 volcanic craters and cones across the wider Auckland area. - Finally the black ring around the outside and the base silver of the coin for New Zealand's sporting colours and heritage - the mighty Rugby World Cup winning All Blacks and the silver fern. We have some "Auckland, New Zealand" coins left over from the event, and we will endeavour to contact those who have expressed interest on this forum - otherwise please just email us through or GC.com profile. They will be $15NZ each plus shipping, which is yet to be determined. So long as we can safely pack them less than 10mm thick, we should be able to post them for about $3NZ each coin (international). If someone out there would be so kind as to tell us how much these coins weigh then we should be able to confirm the postage cost. Cheers, Chris & Vera
  23. If that was your entire postage cost then I'm seriously jealous!
  24. A big box arrived here in Auckland today, containing a load of beautiful Auckland event coins. The coins look amazing and we are very pleased with them. Our event participants will be very happy!
  25. Yes, luckily the event is before December when it changes. Really this all came about because of dumb luck. We actually had a bit of a moment, after listing and starting to organise the AKL event, when we checked and saw we were flying into Samoa on the 11th, and then relief when we realised it's the 12th in AKL. Western Samoa will be staying on the other side of the dateline, so it would be pretty easy for someone in Samoa to have two 12/12/12 events, with a short flight or a ferry trip between.
