  1. I want to stop timers when I quit a cartridge and then restart them from the same point when I restart the cartridge. At the moment they continue to run in the background (when I test on my iphone). Is there a way to do this? Thanks.
  2. I can confirm. I created a cartridge as described above and the behaviour is as you described. Iphone 4S running ios 7.0.6. I tried a few experiments with stopping sounds on save and on resume but it didn't solve the issue.
  3. As I mentioned earlier, you don't need to know the numeric values, such as 128 degrees. But if you are here, and you wish to go there, the two things you will need to know is, which way is 'there', and which way are you going. These two datums, (known as bearing and heading), allow you to determine how to get there. If your destination is kinda to your south, and you are walking kinda east, you might not get where you are going. At some point, you'll need to turn right. If you don't know that you are moving thisaway, and that you should, instead, be going thataway, you'll have a very long journey. Oh, before I forget, here are a few eye rolls for you... Maybe I'm a bit thick but why do I need the heading? If my app is in compass mode and points where I need to go (ie: the bearing) it doesn't matter what my heading is - I know from the compass which way I should be heading (I thought I'd use the same word in two different ways in this post just to make it even more confusing ).
  4. I think the oldest in Australia is GCF1 Frying Pan. Original container, original logbook. Hidden 17/12/2000. Perennially guarded by water, mud, ticks and leeches.
  5. Ditto. Remove the "." from the end of the link and it works.
  6. Hi, I am trying to create a short animation. 8 frames, each frame lasting 1 second. The method I have used is to create a 1-second countdown timer. I tried displaying a message on each tick or changing the media on an item and displaying the item or the object details on each tick. I am testing on an iphone (IOS7). The result is not good. Can anyone supply an example of a working animation created in urwigo? Thanks.
  7. Write note 10/12/2013 I checked up on the cache today following the recent logs and being a previous finder. The original cache is still there. I couldn't find the film canister left by <Redacted>. If anyone finds it can they please take it home and throw it away - it's just geotrash. Found it 25/11/2013 (7,000+ finds) REPLACED 25/11/13 by *<Redacted>* Left film cannister with a 132 log inside to get this one back up and running. Appreciate it if next finder can bring a plastic bag as I had run out today. Cheers! Didn't find it 9/11/2013 If the journey is why we cache then this was brilliant. But didn't find the box. Didn't find it 11/10/2013 1hr if searching nothing here? Didn't find it 7/10/2013 Interesting place. Can think of a good day to go back. Didn't find it 7/10/2013 Found the path - after going down 2 other side paths. Found a great place to enjoy the view but couldn't find the cache. Is it still there? Didn't find it 20/8/2013 That's three DNFs in a row for this cache. Perhaps the owner could verify its in place. Didn't find it 9/6/2013 Was a super windy day when we went a couple of months ago... To the point of nearly being blown away on the tall cliffs, with all the deep crevasses and things had to eventually give up the search. Didn't find it 22/5/2013 A little bit to hard for us today :/ we will try again another day
  8. I have followed the "Didn't find it = DNF" path for maybe 6 months now. I'm starting to see a pattern though that is not positive. What is happening is that because I look long and hard before I log a DNF those that follow feel comforted by it and also DNF easily. I don't want to see those caches archived - they are probably still there and I just couldn't find it because, let's face it, I am an average seeker. Archiving is not good - the caches wouldn't meet the Guidelines today. So I conclude that DNF'ing is not a universal thing - it depends on the circumstances. And that, in my circumstances, I need to be a bit more circumspect before I log a DNF. Geoff aka Tyreless
  9. Thanks johnny65 for the example of how to do this in urwigo.
  10. You should try posting on the forum at Magellan Insiders. The gurus there will have ideas.
  11. 1. You're right, that's exactly how this particular cartridge works. 2. For that particular Wherigo cartridge the 5 points of the star are virtual and when you have visited them the cartridge will give you the location of the physical cache. Cheers and happy caching.
  12. Create an item called "Unlock Code" and then use something like the following: Of course, [Name of Game] is the name of your cartridge. Geoff aka Tyreless
  13. You can't please everyone. Seems to me your priorities are right. Big ups to the Foundation Team! I have no dispute with focussing on mobile technology for Wherigo into the future - definitely the right choice as far as I can predict. Geoff aka Tyreless
  14. Thanks for your hard work and dedication charlenni. Geoff aka Tyreless
  15. Hi Ranger Fox and team, Thanks for the update and for all your hard work. Geoff aka Tyreless
  16. Is this happening after you find a cache and the GC asks if you want to search for nearby caches? There is a known bug that such a search will limit itself to your last search filters and it has to be manually cleared.
  17. You can now load maps on to the GC if you upgrade to Firmware 2.15 (get it here). You can use maps from http://maps4me.net - there is a small charge for this (around $7.00). I have Australian maps on my GC from maps4me.net and they show most trails, as well as contours, roads and waterways, and it is vastly superior to the base map provided on the device. The maps are based on OpenCycleMaps and have great detail.
  18. If you are using Urwigo to build your cartridges I have a solution for you. You create a variable called, say, "Todd's Apples". Every time Todd finds an apple you: 1. [increment] [Todd's Apples] +1; and 2. [set] Todd.Description = [concantenate] "Todd has " [Todd's Apples] " apples." Cheers, Geoff aka Tyreless
  19. I've had no issues but I was uncomfortable doing the mod. It involved cutting out part of case (a little bit of plastic that activates the on/off button on the iphone) with a craft knife and I was worried that if I stuffed it up then the case wouldn't be much use. I'm not very confident doing that sort of thing. As it turned out I didn't stuff it up. Yes, it works with the Groundspeak geocaching app perfectly well. I've got to say, though, that the geosphere app is really very good and overcomes some weaknesses in the official app, eg: 1. It publishes logs with the correct time and date 2. It deals with corrected co-ordinates 3. It has excellent filtering options 4. It deals with caches from Geocaching Australia which aren't on the official site (this was something I needed) One other minor point is that the headphone socket doesn't work so you can't listen to music on your ear-buds. Cheers, Geoff
  20. I started with an iphone 4S. Then I got a GPRr (Magellan Explorist GC), but after a few months happily caching with that I have gone back to the iphone 4S. I use it with a toughcase. They are reasonably compatible. You need to modify it a bit to stop the on/off button snagging (you can see an example here - note that I didn't need to remove the 2 bottom rubber plugs but I did need to do the wire-tie modification). The iphone 4S is now as accurate as the GPSr (there wasn't much difference to begin with), and is waterproof, shockproof and the battery lasts a lot longer. I use the geosphere app on the iphone - highly recommended. The Explorist GC is now my backup device. Cheers, Tyreless
  21. I have an iphone 4s and a Magellan Explorist GC. If you have the latest firmware on your Magellan (2.17) you can download and install maps from www.maps4me.net. It doesn't cost much (around $7USD) and, for me in Australia, the maps are very good (they are based on Open Cycle Maps and Open Street Maps). I found the accuracy of the two devices quite similar in most conditions, although the Magellan does a bit better when coverage isn't so good. Having said that, I now do my caching with the iphone (and geosphere app, which is better than the Groundspeak app imo). You spend a lot of time using the joystick on the Magellan and you don't want to be uploading logs from it or you will be getting RSI. So my conclusion is that the Magellan is OK as a backup for overseas use but is not nearly as easy to work with as the iphone. Hope this helps.
  22. I would use "Set _zone.Active = True", where "_zone" is the zone you want to activate. Geoff aka Tyreless
  23. Chris... "Web Page Cannot Be Found" ARGHHHHHHHHH Just take the "http://" off the end of the link and it works. I think Chris made a typo, that's all.
  24. If you are using the official app then, in map view, click on the three dots in the top right corner of the map screen. It gives you options on which type of map to display, including satellite.
  25. Compile it as a gwz file. Log in to Wherigo.com with you username and password, go to your "My Home" page and choose "Upload a Cartridge". Cheers, Geoff aka Tyreless
