  1. Heh, sorry Bjorn. Guess I should learn my friends screen names!
  2. Hey Columbus! Keep your eyes and calendars open for a big Geo-event coming March 20th. Games! Prizes! Food! Caches! Inspired by an event NeoGranger and I attended up near Cleveland, we hope to throw a bash those of all ages will enjoy. We promise you won't be bored, or even required to be social , but we're sure everyone will come around. New to the sport? Haven't been around in a while? Been around and can't stop caching?! Then this is the event for you! Bring your friends, neighbors, kids, pets and GPS, 'cause you don't want to miss it! Alright, enough hype. I'll be posting the event page in a week or two, but feel free to contact Rabid Bunny, Mr. 0 or Bjorn75 if ya want to RSVP now. See ya in March!
  3. Overall, I like the new maps. Loosing the archived caches & marking caches you've hidden in some way (or filtering of some kind), and being able to pan out further than 30 miles would make it perfect in my opinion. Thanks for making a membership more worthwhile for this low-tech cacher. "Look at the bones!"
  4. I agree with you hydrashok-the variance between flexabilty of approvers is extremely frustrating, especially from state to state. Your approver may not even live in the same state as you, or have any idea of the location you are talking about. I would have done the same as you seeing that there was an exisiting cache in place similar to yours. It looks like you've wasted time and money placing a cache because of the tightening of unspoken "rules" I would assume that as adults we can all make decisions if we want to give money to a commercial enterprise or not, especially as it lists costs on the web page. I would assume that fans of SCUBA and GeoCaching would appreciate your efforts and not only hit the cache, but help maintain it as well, creating a quality cache for pros and newbies of SCUBA alike. And who knows, maybe more and more people will hear about GeoCaching, thus spreading it's good name. It seems to me this cache would give people a safe place to dive and cache at the same time, instead of you throwing a container in the middle of a random lake. Anyway, posting to the forum is part of the appeal process and hopefully someone who can make a decision on the matter will read your requests. We've all had those disagreements with approvers at times, and sometimes we've won. It seems a shame yours isn't communicating very well, thus frustrating you. And on top of that the excuse that a cache is a year old and "grandfathered" in is a pretty lame excuse, especially if the rules for commercial placement of caches hasn't been changed or at least re-worded. My two cents, I would approve your cache in a second. "Look at the bones!"
  5. Well, THI, tell me how you really feel about me. I guess I could insert a lot of negative feedback concerning your comments, but I don't really care. I'll stick to finding the caches, I'll let you have the forums. "Look at the bones!"
  6. Wow, thanks! Pretty quick response time on this, I appreciate it. "Look at the bones!"
  7. So I need some advice. Anyone know how a good way to approach someone to archive their cache? Say, a cache that was been unavailable for a year by cachers who haven't logged a find in 10 months? Not trying to be a jerk, but it's frustrating to look at every time I look for nearest caches. Does admin ever contact anybody about this? I figured I'd post here since it's an Ohio cache. I suppose I can contact them myself, but again, trying not to be a jerk. I'm leaning more towards passive aggresive with this one. Any suggestions? "Look at the bones!"
  8. I'm not trying to be a jerk, and I don't even know this Cacher..but how should I go about asking to have them archive thier own cache?! One that is driving me crazy cause it has shown up on my page for a year now as unavailable? The cache owner placed a note stating they would get it back out there soon, which was posted last June or July. The cachers themselves haven't logged a find in 10 months. So without me searching throughout the entire history of geocaching logs, does anyone know if admin can step in so I'm not personally approaching a cacher to remove the cache? Again, trying to avoid being a jerk this time. Maybe I should post a suggestion on one of the other forums, but I figured I'd start it here since it's a midwest cache. Any suggestions? "Look at the bones!"

  11. Sorry to post again, but I feel this is a somewhat different topic. After using the new format I've realized you basically turned the nearest caches into a simplified Pocket Queries. The additional step of putting in my zip code and clicking the little box makes me more and more frustrated every time I have to do it. The website has kinda taken a turn away from casual user to elitist techno cacher who has no need to find the caches close to him cause he's already found them. And yes, the colors and layout is pretty much as unappealing as it could get. Guess you can only go up from here. "Look at the bones!"
  12. The only thing that really bugs me about the new stuff is this: Once on a cache page I would click "all nearby caches" in order to quickly discern any other caches near that one that I have yet to find. It seems in order for me to do that now without seeing which caches I have found, I have to go into advanced search everytime, put in the coords for the cache and click the box to exclude my found caches. Soooo.... any way to make that "omit found/hidden caches" option stick until turned off? Just my two cents since this seems to really slow things down for hunting groups of caches. "Look at the bones!"
  13. A little late I guess, but here is a couple group shots of COG (central ohio geocachers) from CITO day last month. "Look at the bones!"
  14. Sorry man, I gotta work that day. "Look at the bones!"
  15. As far as I know Col. Metro Parks doesn't allow caches. Mr. 0 is a better authority on the subject. He's been our spokesman in the central Ohio area. "Look at the bones!"
  16. I guess a start of any kind is good. Virtuals will draw most cachers to an area. Especially if it is a nice park or nature preserve. I don't mind CITO events. Might as well pick up some garbage while meeting new cachers and what not. Bjorn's idea seems like a good mix of both caching for virtuals and cleaning up. Perhaps if we have another CITO event within the next couple of months we can get some kind of press coverage on that. It would give the park and GeoCaching some exposure. Just my two cents. No real solutions I guess since we seem to be at a dead end with some of these parks. "Look at the bones!"
  17. I always have trouble with that state cache map. I also believe it still shows blue boxes for caches that have been archived. Not positive tho. "Look at the bones!"
  18. I'm not really sure. So far I count 8 (M&M Speedracers, Neo and myself, Jacksons, Bjorn, and Lord Syd) I haven't heard from anyone directly. "Look at the bones!"
  19. I have put in the order for shirts. I will bring them with me to the event. See ya there! "Look at the bones!"
  20. Thanks Mr. 0. Must be getting older, couldn't find the Time Flies cache that day, which is a whole different thread at this point. Anyway... I'll put the order in for shirts on April 17th at the latest, just to make sure we get them in time. And we can skip on the bags unless someone specifically wants me to order them. Otherwise we can bring our own. So far I have Bjorn's and M&M Speedracers down for shirts, as well as Neo and myself. Anyone else want me to order shirts, just let me know. Thanks. "Look at the bones!"
  21. Shirts are available for sale, they look pretty cool. $3 a shirt which is pretty good. I can take orders and place one big order so we can save on shipping if folks want me to. I'll just hand them out at the event. The bags are only .25 each so let me know if we want to order any of those as well. Anyone know how long ground shipping usually takes? We could also do 3 day shipping, but I assume that costs more. "Look at the bones!"
  22. Shirts look like they'll begoing for only $3 each or so. If we bulk order we can save on shipping. We might want to start getting orders now. I can keep my eye on placing the order if folks want me to, just let me know. "Look at the bones!"
  23. I don't know what you're talking about Mr. 0 "Look at the bones!"
  24. You can have the honors Mr. 0. You're really doing the leg work, I just started a thread. It looks like most everything is set with the date, time and place. Just saw an update on shirts which look pretty cool: So if we want to order some it would be cheaper I guess to buy in bulk to save on shipping. They will be available to order by April 3rd. So let me know. Mr. 0, can you put this pic on the event page also? "Look at the bones!"
  25. Looks like geocaching.com will have t-shirts available in about 2 weeks. If we have agreed on Alum Creek and April 26th we just need a time and coords for a meeting place of some kind so we can get the cache page set up as an event cache. Hopefully that way we can get more cachers involved that may not check the forums at all. We already have 6 with M&M Speedracers, Jacksons and Neo and I so hopefully we can round up some more. So if Mr.0 can get more details from ODNR, that would be cool. I'll keep an eye on any shirts or whatever from geocaching. Then we'll set up the cache page. Sound good? Don't forget to spread the word! "Look at the bones!"
