  1. Spanner can't be used with the GPSmap 60CSx, can it? I've been trying to do the same thing as Konnarock Kid but haven't been able to find the right setting. I just broke down and bought Garmins' MapSource City Navigator North America NT... If there is a way to use my 60CSx, I'll return the software (haven't opened it yet.) Konnarock, did you have luck with spanner? Thanks Everyone :-) WBF617 Howard
  2. Hello Crew! I'm visiting Seattle Aug 17th to Aug 22. I look forward to visiting that APE Cache! I can't wait for this trip. On an off note, I decided that NJ is no longer for me and looking for change in lifestyle. Seattle looked beautiful so I thought and come visit and check it out! The reason for this trip is to scope out some apartments as I plan on moving there within the 6-8 months. Can any one suggest good places to live that are about 10-20 miles outside of Seattle? Thanks a ton! Howard You should try to make it out to the GeoLuau III on Saturday August 19th. It'll be a big event and a good chance to meet a lot of local cachers. Great! That sounds cool. I'll see about making it to the event! Thanks for letting me know about it.

  4. Well, I will be on the east coast then so I can't even offer to show you around. I'm not sure when Jester gets back from his Alaska trip, but he may be back in time. Edit: I have put together a small bookmark list that lists four caches within reasonable walking distance from the terminal. That list is available here. A suggestion was made earlier in the thread about the Fremont Troll. That one is some distance north of the airport and is not one I have done myself so I can't comment on whether you want to go to the trouble of getting there. Hi usafknine, I hope you don't mind me piggy-backing here. I wasn't sure if I should create a new thread, but I'm also taking a trip to Seattle, Aug. 17 - 22. I'm looking to relocate from NJ within the next 6-8 months so I'm scoping out some apts in the Seattle area. I'm thinking about living 5-15 miles outside of Seattle (cheeper rent maybe?) and would love to know of "must-visit" caches surrounding the area. Any suggestions? [uPDATED: 8:29 -- I found a very similar post from some one visiting on July 17. I'm sure the information there is just as valid so I'll go by that ;-) That way there is no need for double posts. Thank again every one! ] Thanks Howard
  5. R S, Great explaination there! I wanted to ask though... Have you had or heard of any one connecting a GPSr such as a Garmin GPSmap 60CSx to a PC w/ Microsoft Streets & Trips 2006? I know I could have bought Streets & Trips with a USB receiver but I took the cheep route for that purchase. :-P I thought, with the serial port on my Garmin, I'd be able to have MS Streets & Trips use that port as a reciever. Or, would you simply recommend buying MapSource City V8? Thanks for any info you can offer... Howard
  6. Hey White Sage! I struggled with this too. 1) if you absolutely MUST have a small GPS - something you'll carry everywhere and don't want to feel weighed down - the eTrex is it. 2) if weight isn't as big a deal and you want to trade the size of the eTrex for a very powerful receiver and antenna (SIRF III) the 60CSx is sensitive to the point of being twitchy. (multipath error picking up very weak reflected signals) Aside from a slightly smaller screen on the eTrex, from a display and interface standpoint, these units are very similar. If the eTrex had a jack for an external antenna, I would have bought it. I went with the 60CSx instead but sometimes find myself wishing for the pocket-sized eTrex. Good luck - these are both excellent units. Chris Hi Chris, This a bit off topic, but I have the 60CSx and a few times I'd have the direction arrow pointing the opposite direction I'm traveling but distance would still decrease. Ex: Arrow points south but cache is north of me; so I continue walking north and distance would decrease. If I turned around and went south, the arrow would "flip around" and the distance to cache would increase! Any idea what that is? Thanks for any advice.... and apologizes for being off topic. Howard
  7. Yes, Mythbusters did a good job showing cell phones don't interfer with with navigation. I think they just want to keep people off the phones. I'd hate to listen to someone next to me on the phone during my trip. I tried to use my GPS on recent plane ride to Key West... Not much success with a signal. I don't think I have a very good GPS.
