  1. Welcome to the forum! My bad.. some gremlins crept in there. Knew there was a reason one should leave this to the Pro, aka Danie. Runs away with tail between his legs Here you go:-
  2. They seem to be trending up a bit. Table only shows active caches, a couple of old one's still in play, total of 179 currently active. Apart from smaller caches being easier to hide/maintain, there seems to be a trend globally of less interest in the goodies in a cache. Kids still love the goodies though, they find the log only caches boring.
  3. A bit of an update to Danie’s previous post on cache sizes Number of caches placed by size per year Number of caches placed by size per year as a % of total caches placed for that year Excludes Events, CITO, Lab. Not surprisingly Micro's and Small's still the most popular by far
  4. The following Pocket Queries will capture the current active caches in Africa, including Non-Sovereign territories, and excluding South Africa. 6. Congrats to all on their recent milestones
  7. Yep, I guess all one can do is notify the challenge cache owners to update their scripts
  8. Worked in the quiet hours, thanks Currently 19. I suspect over time this number is going to increase. With the current focus on statistical caching and filling blocks in matrices, no doubt someone will come up with some challenge and there will be a rash of placements with fake place dates... Oh wait there already are.... Just not that pre-dated....... Yet!
  9. Thanks, I'll try again, previous attemots at that just produced errors.
  10. While I didn't save the change, I could change the placed date on one of my caches to 01/01/100 and it accepted it but wouldn't save, produced an error. I then changed one of my caches to 01/01/1900 and this was accepted and changed. I then tried the 1800's and this produced a server error. so you're right. Hmmm yes, I see the problem. How? Online search doesn't have a date filter and PQ will not allow search prior to 01/01/2000
  11. Pocket Query function to search for caches on Place During is limited with a start date that can not be earlier than 01/01/2000. This all makes sense considering that Geocaching only commenced in 2000. I see however that Placed Date in a Cache listing is not limited and one can place a cache with a place date as early as 01/01/100. I personally don't agree with this but seems there are numerous caches around the world that have placed dates pre 2000. These caches aren't picked up by PQ's relying on the date function which seems to be the only reliable way to manage a database of caches for a region. Surely the two date functions should be consistent? Perhaps publish date should become a selectable field? Thoughts.
  12. I think after our consolidation we should have the following: Type Number Arch Perc Unknown Cache 2019 558 28% Traditional 17879 6221 35% Multicache 1074 490 46% Virtual Cache 14 7 50% Event Cache 1167 1144 98% Earthcache 378 7 2% Letterbox H 111 25 23% CITO 154 146 95% Wherigo Cache 44 2 5% L&Foun 3 3 100% MegaEvent 3 3 100% Lab Caches 21 21 100% TOTALS 22867 8627 38%
  13. Aaah, forgot to exclude those A quick recalc, 34%
  14. Danie, Out of interest I looked at the years a cache was placed and then determined the % of these that have been archived. I guess it's pretty much the same, just a different view, but not seeing as significant a flattening out, could just be smoothing. Looking at 2002-2005 it does seem to buck the trend. 2013, and 2014 have a marked increase in archived percentages. Then it trends constantly back to 2006 with a massive correction in 2005, and then it follows much the same trend again. Interesting
  15. I've got it a little higher at 34.5% (excludes Events), same same When I looked at my own stats it was also interesting to see that of the caches I've found in SA, 47.5% have been archived (Excluding events)
  16. I remember that listing and unfortunately also never had the opportunity to find it. You've followed the right approach re the cache. Not sure whether there is a limitation in the unarchive facility (one of the reviewers will have to chime in) but as the cacher is inactive sounds like a new placement is in order. Look forward to seeing a listing regardless.
  17. There's also a higher prevalence of event caches over the last couple of years which would contribute somewhat to the figures, number of events per year 2002 1 2003 0 2004 0 2005 9 2006 14 2007 27 2008 27 2009 25 2010 59 2011 95 2012 97 2013 138 2014 178 2015 171 2016 247 2017 70
  18. Could also be a listing that was not approved or perhaps the CO never submitted. I sometimes place a cache physically before publishing to test the location. After numerous visits over a few weeks or months if all looks good I'll publish. I have found two GC.com caches that have never been published. One, on a hiking trail in a nature reserve, was probably never approved as there is a moratorium on caches in many of our reserves. Interestingly it has survived for a long time and has been signed by many people, cachers and muggles. At the time had no idea it wasn't a listed cache and no CO was listed in the logsheet. Only when trying to log the cache discovered that no cache was listed in the area, and it wasn't an archived cache either. The second was a cache that the CO never submitted. Was found by accident and just happened to know the CO who had included their cacher handle on the logsheet. He confirmed that he had decided not to list the cache and we could remove the cache. If the CO hasn't included any details or a cache note then contact one of your local reviewers to see if they can pick up anything on the coordinates. If not, then your only option is to check one of the other "caching" type sites for a listing, else ignore.
  19. I see there is a new lists page available on the Geocaching website and one can send your lists directly to your GPSr via Garmin Express. Has anyone tried this? Feedback?
  20. Watch out Wildbirds...... here I come..... one day .... perhaps........ maybe  +1
  21. Considering all the open space in MP, surprising that there are so many "blank" areas.
  22. Some significant peaks there too, how do the densities along that ridge compare to the overall Gauteng figures above?
  23. Heatmap still shows a heartbeat Started talking to yourself Danie
