  1. I added www.geocaching.com as a trusted site under security tab in IE and it is now working in IE and Edge. Uninstalled Chrome, but guess this will do the trick in there too.
  2. Seems to be a problem on certain browsers IE, Edge, Safari, and Chrome. Was working fine just over a week ago. Reluctantly reloaded Firefox and it works fine on that, but other browsers (all latest versions) just getting the spinning circle on Composing Drafts and Friend League.
  3. Same here. Cannot log uploaded field notes. When logging manually, can go to the "old Experience" and it works fine. Besides having opted out of the new experience for field notes and composing logs, when clicking on a field note to compose a log it uses the new experience and just hangs.
  4. Just to let everyone know that earlier today we unfortunately lost an avid Geocacher who has gone off to chase a terrain 6 Mystery Cache. Many of you will know him as Technonut (Peter Tiedt). He was geocaching mad and an active member in KZN, and then Gauteng after moving there earlier this year. Peter joined the Geocaching community in January 2004, and immediately proceeded to place several caches. Over the years, he would place 348 caches, many of which are still active. He only started to find caches much later on, but wasted no time once he got started and found 5325 caches. He was also an active member on the forum. He will be sadly missed in the Geocaching community. Condolences to his family (GForceZA and Killer Midget) and friends. I unfortunately only met Peter once many years ago at a shindig in KZN. We only recently started communicating again on various technical aspects of the South African database of caches and its history. Please feel free to share your stories and Geocaching adventures of Technonut.

  6. Yep. Unfortunately that has unfortunately always been the problem with having images hosted on other sites. If the sites go down or change their terms, then it impacts anyone who has referenced those hyperlinks, forums included. Fortunately we can now upload the files directly here (you will see the links available when you create a new post). Sadly doesn't help your historical images, unless you start updating them manually
  7. Danie, You can now upload files into the forum, no need for 3rd party site anymore
  8. Interesting See divmango and Geelvink having a bumper 2017 Quite a few cachers doing some serious travelling this year. Nice to see them hitting some of the more remote provinces too.
  9. Well done to both. See divmango having a busy 2017
  10. Hi Danie How about a similar analysis (as per EC's) for Wherigo's
  11. Well done Team Wh00
  12. Congrats to rodnjoan who sneaked in their 7000th find over the weekend
  13. Western Sahara 5734% Yemen 5734% All these countries would be similarly underrepresented by caches in general, so very skewed.
  14. Perhaps the Carbon Hunter influence I did a few random ones Lesotho 1764% Swaziland 564% Portugal 189% Spain 119% France 100% UK 98% USA 83% Switzerland 61% Norway 41% I expected Portugal to be higher than average, and the others were fairly expected. A bit surprised by how low Norway is though. Lesotho, well, possibly a winner, but I think it's an anomaly, Swaziland too. I suspect a few African countries will have similarly high overrepresentations
  15. There are currently 372 active EarthCaches in South Africa, vs. 26346 in the world. This means 1 out of every 71 ECs is in South Africa. For all active caches, the number for South Africa is 14257 vs. 3021117 for the world. This means 1 out of every 212 active caches is in South Africa. Relative to all caches, ECs are overrepresented by a factor of 3. Cool, tx Danie So i.t.o. of global figures, we have a 300% overrepresentation, is there any other country that is higher or similar? (If you have the data)
  16. Glad to see that we have a new Castle Gorge listing. Well done Bornadventures
  17. A while ago I was watching recently published caches. After the FTF it seemed to be a long time before the next cacher would find the cache. I have a few theories behind this, so was trying to see whether my casual observation would come up statistically.
  18. How does this compare for caches placed in the last year? Assume you are excluding events
  19. Wouldn't have expected there to be, but nice to see the confirmation Danie. FP's a bit of a dud IMHO, but that's a different topic.
  20. Danie, Seeing that SA has a very rich geological "history" how do we compare to the rest of the world ito of Active Earthcaches as a % of Total Active caches in SA?
  21. Apart from "Have you done a find rate vs age analysis anywhere?" What % of active caches have at least 1 FP, or possibly various ranges/distribution of # of FP's?
  22. FP is a relatively recent development so many older caches would not have benefited as most cachers have not retrospectively gone and favourited their old finds. I do my retrospective FP allocations whenever I find some spare time, but it's a very piecemeal effort. It's also limited to premium members. So the scattered pattern doesn't surprise me. Have you done a find rate vs age analysis anywhere?
  23. Agree. Location and timing much greater influences than age. An easy grab along a high caching traffic route is going to have way more hits than a cache at the top of a mountain requiring a 2 day hike. Timing also plays a role, E.g. publishing a cache in time near a Mega Event is going to have a lot of hits upfront. Caches that are part of some statistical series also tend to be quite popular over recent years, e.g. power trail series. These are all things that will skew the stats
  24. Amazing, keep up the good work
