  1. i have used both Lowrance and Garmin GPS units and i like the Garmin handhelds more. but i have only used the Lowrance Mapcreate Topo. how does Mapsource compare with Mapcreate?
  2. i used it in a heavy downpour with no ill effects. i did get rather wet though.
  3. after using the Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx along side the Lowrance Expidition C, i am 99% sure that Lowrance is not using the starIII. the garmin was picking up signals fast in and more accurately in harder places, like in my car, room, basement... although i didnt take my unit apart to look inside, after using them, i cannot see how they are using the same reciever.
  4. i own a Lowrance Expidition C with both Mapcreate and Fishing Hot Spots Elite. For the money, you cannot get a GPS with the same features. it is not, by any means the best GPS out. i recently took out the GPSMAP 60CSx for three days. i only turned it off when i was asleep. the difference between garmin and lowrance GPS units, in my opinion, is that the garmins are better, but you have to pay for it, i think it is work the extra money to get a garmin, but that is me. i did find the garmins to feel better in my hand, and the buttons were in a more user friendly order. they also light up which is nice but not necessary. the big difference is the screen. although i think the lowrance has more pixles, the screen is extremely hard to see unless the light is on or the sun is at your back. the garmin unit was easy to see, unless you got some glare at a large angle. you also get auto-routing on more of the garmin, which is nice for those of us who dont need to buy a special auto-routing unit for the car only, but would like to have the feature if necessary. i would recomend looking at your budget, and seeing what features are most important to you.
  5. what is nRoute and what does it do? i am getting a laptop for graduation so that would be cool if i could plug it into my comp. and get voice navigation. will it tell what street i need to turn onto like the Nuvi?
  6. thank you for your help. i just wanted to know how good the autorouting was. i will only use the autorouting maybe a dozen times a year. most of my gps use is off the beaten trail.
  7. I work at a gander mountain and was recently given the privilage of trying the new garmin Nuvi. this made me want to get a unit with autorouting capabilities, but can still go off the beaten trail. i was wondering if anybody has used their 60CSx for autorouting? how loud it the proximity alert? any comments are welcomed on these units.
  8. i have an expedition c and think it is great. lowrance does have some horrible service, and almost no technical info like garmin provides. i was looking at the garmin 60csx before i got my lowrance. i had them side-by-side and used both of them for about 2 hours at a local gander mountain. the only differences i could really notice is that garmin offers auto routing, a special geocaching software, less pixels, and more money. i dont know if their software is any better than mapcreate 6.3. i have never used or seen it being used. for me, on my limited budget, the lowrance wins.
  9. although you may not mind the grayscale, go try a color. it is a world of difference and is well worth the extra money. i have an expedition c and have no complaints so far.
  10. hey i got an invisible shield and it works great! i also bought a gillson case for a GPSMAP 76 and the Lowrance Expedition C fit in it. it is a little tight, and takes some work to get into the case straigh, but it will protect it even further. not to mention it has a belt loop, a clip and a handle bar holder.
  11. Hey, I recently purchased a Lowrance Expedition C GPS and was wondering about an external antenna. I do a lot of hunting, and what little geocaching a have so far attempted seemed to be in thick cover. would it be worth the money to get an antenna to put on my back pack or where ever i need it. also any suggestions on what antenna to get would be helpful. so far i have found the Gilsson MCX for $30 and it seems like the way to go. thanks for any help.
  12. Hey, i just got into geocaching and was wondering about protecting my unit. My first GPS was a Garmin ETrex, and after one year i put a few good marks on the screen, and wanted to have a back map. I recently purchased a Lowrance Expedition C, and want to protect it. I will be using it mostly for Fishing, but also a fair amount of hunting/geocaching. What would you recomend, a case that i can use the GPS through the case, or a completly covered case that i have to pull out to use. thanks for any suggestions.
