  1. CacheLord

    Hi!

Welcome aboard. Relatively new myself--so, hello!
  2. Thanks for the info guys. I'll visit the suggested links and then maybe come back with more informed questions.
  3. When you keep suspiciously checking to see if people on cell phones or playing with their PDA's are actually caching.
  4. I've been wondering this for awhile, but haven't thought to ask. But that's what forums are for... This may be a bit of a daunting task to anyone wanting to respond, but should you choose this mission Mr. Phelps... Could someone describe the differences in coordinate systems, why there are differences, and what the coordinates in each system mean, for the layman? I'm curious as all hell, but I feel if I do a search on the web I'm going to get a million useless pages and it seems like you guys probably know this stuff cold. I really thank you in advance.
  5. As I'm new to all this I was also wondering how to lessen notice. I was thinking of taping or just holding some earphones to the GPS so it looks like some weird MP3 player or a portable TV (since your staring at the thing). You can probably only get away with walking past a cache in a first or second pass though.
  6. Thanks all. I think, from what I'm gathering and from what I've read in docs, track logs are a bit more detailed, routes use less points and therefore less memory, and I think only routes can be edited as one sees fit. I guess track logs should be used for really important paths. Thanks again.
  7. I think I understand the track log as its going--basically a recording of where you've been. What confuses me is you can save multiple track logs--basically routes--at any time. Say you have a track log of point A to point B and save it and then clear the active track. Then you go somewhere else at some other point in time, say point D to point E and save that. You can later call up any of these logs, either AB or DE and use them to find your way along them. But, you can also convert any of these to a "route" with the "convert to route" command. Say I do this to AB. What is the difference between the saved track log AB and the one I converted to a route? They seem to me to both be segments of a trip that I can use to follow. I'm not sure how they differ. I hope this isn't too convoluted, but its hard to put into words. Thanks.
  8. I had a quick question. For the life of me I can't seem to find the differences between a saved track log and one that is converted to a route (this on a Magellan gps). Can somebody fill me in? Thanks!!
  9. I got mine at Buydig.com which turned out to be the cheapest. They shipped fast and everything was in good order. You can always do a broad search on something like Shopzilla or pricegrabber and have a good price comparison chart to look at. Be sure to look at retailer ratings and buyer feedback--the cheapest price isn't always the best deal.
  10. Hello everybody. I'm a newbie with this sport/game/hobby and just wanted to shout out to the community introducing myself and saying hi. I found my first cache the other day and had an absolute blast! This is some really fun stuff--and infinitely historical as well. I'm blown away that this is truly the world's first physically global game in any real sense of the word. Logging on and playing a MMORPG is one thing (and amazing too if you think about it) but this is totally different. I'm glad to be a part of it. Soooo......Howdeee!
