  1. [quote Okay, let's try again. What does the attribute mean? Does it mean you can't drive while using your cell phone near the cache? Does it mean there is a school near the cache? Does it mean there are school-age muggles near the cache? Does it mean that there is a "no drug zone" or a "no gun zone" or a "no graffiti zone" or some other legally defined "zone" near the cache? Does it mean something else? Will the name/icon for the attribute convey this meaning to cache owners and cache seekers around the world? Who is going to benefit from this attribute? Who is going to search for caches that have this attribute? Or for caches that do not have this attribute? Ok well said. I failed to think about how other cachers would view it. (For me it is so obvious lol... ) I also didn't think about how it would be utilized as far as search etc.
  2. There are probably 10 attributes that you can pick for ANY given cache.. The hider can chose them all or none.. if the hider finds the information useful.. then more power to em.
  3. Of all the local geocachers I have met, no matter how enthusiastic, or legendary, have been kind, and understanding.. engaged in friendly discussion and debate... Even at state wide mega events, I never came across any condescending geocachers. Why do people in online forums have to be so rude about things? I said in my original post that it wasn't all about the legal aspects of things...I see a new posting (and we don't get that many in my area.). I want to go grab it first thing in the morning.. it might be nice to know that hey.. know your route BEFORE YOU GET THERE.. don't get caught up with your phone/gps in the area.. Hey there might be a lot of school traffic on the feeder roads to the cache... or increased muggle activity.. It isn't all about the laws.. Ya know I really don't care if is adopted or not.. I will still put it in the description of any caches I place, if I feel it is an issue.. The reason I brought this up as, everyday while I take my daughter to school (or hell anytime I drive anywhere lol) I am constantly thinking hey.. that would be an awesome place for a cache.. anything that makes things easier or safer for our hobby (especially for ppl who might not live in the direct vacinity) is a good thing. I love open and honest debate and dialogue, but no need to be rude.
  4. Sheeesh... In the town I live in, most of the major parks/stores/cache heavy places are indeed located in areas affected by school zones. I know that 12 states recently implemented No Distracted Driving laws, and would have thought that many of the places might too have specific fines/laws regarding school zones... here is link to the US state laws regarding cell phone/texting use.. http://www.distraction.gov/content/get-the-facts/state-laws.html I assure you that there are more caches located in school zones (that aren't "near a school" ) than in deserted mines.... just sayin'....... If a certain attribute doesn't affect you or the place you cache in... you can always..um... ignore it.
  5. Texas has made it a misdemeanor to use a cell phone in a school zone.(during posted school zone times.) It would be nice to maybe have an attribute that let the finder know this ahead of time so they can choose when/what time to attempt the cache. I know we can just post that in the description, but besides the legal aspect of it, some might not want to deal with traffic etc. Also programs like c:geo post the attributes before the description and it would immediately pop up.. Think this would be an awesome addition! Thanks for listening! ~oceansoul41 of Rockport Texas
  6. I was about to post a question on the same topic.. Mine was more specific to .. say.. adhering plastic pill bottles etc.. into rubber/plastic toys etc.. in a HOT/HUMID climate.. =) would you use the same stuff as listed previously or something different? Thanks in advance! =) ~angela
  7. I find it interesting that the *advanced* search options are the same as the regular search options..
  8. I live in South Texas so all off my moose sightings are of the stuffed variety.. but I swear I will think of you EVERY time I see one, from here on out...
  9. I do carry a cache doctering kit.. (that reminds me... I need to add some zip ties). I have had the honor of meeting most of the prolific hiders in my area, and know them to be be good cache owners. I know that they respond quickly to a couple of DNF's (if that is not expected) and respond quickly to need maintenance notes. That being said, I have no problem, switching out a film canister if the lid finally gives way... adding another page to the logs, trading out the baggie for a more sturdy water proof one.. I have also changed out containers for people I do not know, because it was obvious by the contents that the container just cracked, and I wanted to preserve the contents.. It had nothing to do with the responsibility of the owner, but for the people behind me. It was a cool cache in a place that is VERY likely to get soaked. I left a note saying what I did, and was thanked the next day. It is annoying to come across a long line of abandoned or unchecked caches, and I have no problem posting a note with a needs archived and or maintenance note.. It is just a a situation by situation thing.
  10. I'm thinking someone found it and saw swag, and just felt compelled to leave *something* =)
  11. Really??? yipppeee... was scared to click on that lol... Thanks..can this thread be closed?
  12. I mean technically I could open the browser on my phone.. but it is just too dang tiny like that.. =)
  13. I love taking any tb's I find with me, it would be SOOOO much easier if the same drop down option to visit was on the android app! I can do everything from my phone, but I have to come home to do any TB stuff (which includes getting any pics off my phone onto my puter... ) Help a girl and her little buddies out!
  14. Ok everyone. thanks for the input.. I am gonna get some pictures of some sites here in my area, then we will head south. I honestly didn't know how it worked. Have a great weekend! ~angela
  15. Ok I just got my first FTF, and with it, I got my first Trackable (travel bug) the tags were around the cutest stuffed penguin. I grabbed the trackable, and have it in my inventory, and am planning on doing something to get the bug on its way.. my question is... um.. well the penguin is kinda big, and he likes me, and the climate here, and he doesn't really *want* to go to the Antarctica. What is proper etiquette? Is it ok to keep the stuffed animal and just send the tags (or maybe put a smaller travel buddy with the tags) or should I wait and find another large container to send the penguin (against his will) on south? If it wasn't my first I might not have the attachment, but I do.. sniff sniff.. thanks in advance, ~angela
  16. As another newbie, and having a lack of um... imagination.. I went to a couple of geocaching supply websites, and OMG, I had no idea what kinda containers were out there! You might just not know you are looking right at it!! Also, I started relying much less on my *map* it feature, and much more on my *compass* (using a DroidX). I get frustrated too, but at the same time, I have found ones that many people said they found with the help of.... which made me feel good again! =) ~angela
