  1. Premium membership and caches hove been around for at least 2 years that I know of. I don't know what it cost to host a site like this but I think It's very generous to offer the site free for all with special benefits to those who would Like to pay. Also keep in mind the cache owner, not geocaching.com, is the one who decides if a cache is premium or not.
  2. If you think so poorly of other cachers why do you choose this as your hobby. You need to depend on others to place and maintain a cache in order for you to participate. My family is one of those "less fortunate" you are choosing to degrade because we can't possibly be near our debt to income ratio if we happen to have a $129 GPS... Our electric bill is more then that most months! As for micros sometimes that's the best container for the area. Sometimes that's all the owner has in his/her pack when they encountered a wonderful spot that needed to be shared... there are so many scenarios... bottom line... if your in it for the swag and the size of the cache... LEAVE NOW it's clear by your attitude you are not an asset to the caching community at large!
  3. While caching locally my daughter and a stumbled into a cemetery is disrepair. She was touched by the state of affairs and wanted to help. As her mother and Girl Scout leader I suggested we could make this a troop project, maybe even our bronze. The troop bought into the idea, one of my girls actually lives less then 50 feet from GZ and was so glad we would be helping this place. I posted a CITO event (GC23JNF). The reviewer promptly archived with the following comments. I have replied with: Is there anything else you would recomend I do? This is more of a geo inspired effort then a Bronze project. If I wanted the girls to simple post to the internet and get there award I would use free cycle and local BB to collect food to the animal shelter. Any advice would be appreciated.
  4. From a run down cemetery my daughter has adopted for her Bronze project. <br>
  5. Do you expect to publish other people's stories???? Any story they post here would not be yours to profit from. You need a release to do that. Maybe you can get out there and find some cahces yourself and write a book about that.....
  6. mine was shutting down too. lucky for me I had just seen this thread so I did some research instead of freaking out. I read here and started in test mode. Very cool. I downloaded my gps to mapsource so I would have a back up then I went to the garmin web page and reinstalled the software. works so far!
  7. I don't have one I can sell you but watch the Dicks Sporting goods ads closely. I got a venture HC with topo CD and case for $169 they have been going on sale about every other week.
  8. we went thru the initial installation menu and set all dead on. I used my topo to determine elevation. we left it on for 1/2 hour. for some reason no matter how we set it the west was 2 off. for instance my west is 75.000.00 and the 300 showed 77.000.00

  15. I too am sorry for your loss. We are new to geocahching but our little budy goes with us. She's so small it's easy to just pick her up. Our St. bernard went with us to the first one but he pulls a bit so he can be distracting.
  16. Awsome... got them on there. Thank you. Also thanks so much for the map link.
  17. Used it last night for the first time. Worked great! outside it finds the satilites very fast. We were able 2 find 3 of the 4 pionts we were looking for. Made it to #4 but it was dark and we decided to go back in the day light.
  18. worked perfectly and was very easy. Thank you
  19. Thank you. they are still on sale all this week.
  20. I just bought my fist unit. A Garmin venture HC. It comes with topo map software. I installed the software on my pc and it does interface with the unit. I can add points on the map and then send to the gps. I can't figure out how to sent the topo data to the gps. Can anyone help?
  21. Thank you both. It was great to hear vegas's daughter holds this unit in such high regard. I did purchase a bundle from dick's sporting goods. $169 for the unit, case, strap and topo maps. I downloaded some caches from the site direct to the unit. I loaded the topo software and it is sharing cords back and forth but I have yet to figure out how to load the topo. Thanks for your help Shannon
  22. Does the 4H have any you can rent? In my GS council I can rent a kit with 3 handheld units and instructions for $25/2 weeks. The troop pays for it and we all learn!
  23. I'm new to geocaching but I was able to borrow a Venture HC and I did find the box I was looking for now I need to own my own unit. I like the venture HC as it has reasonable to high review online and I have used it before. I have found it with out maps new online for $129. My questions? Is this unit something that would be good for a newbie? Do any of you recommend something similar? CAn you sell me one in like new condition under $129 Do I need the topo maps? (additional $70 ish) Ultimately with a budget of $200 what would you recommend / what can you sell me. I would like to have something ordered by the end of the week. Thanks
