  1. Nice! But I would be afraid it would break at that first knot if i put any weight on it.
  2. I almost always carry one. They're good for digging in leaves and thumping the ground. Recommendations? 5' long. Manufacturer: Make your own from a sapling. Easy, free, way more fun than something purchased. Google the phrase "Scout Staves" and you should find instructions on making your own. Cool
  3. I use an aluminum walking stick from Swiss Gear. It is collapsible for easy storage, and has a cork handle and a strap. I bought mine at Walmart, but I see them listed on Amazon. I think I paid less at Walmart. How sturdy is that, it looks a little flimsy.
  4. Anyone use one? Anyone have any recommendations / preferred manufacturer?
  5. That's not an ammo can that's a Military earplug container.
  6. LOL to be honest I have one of those too and was thinking about making it into a TB. Guess I'll re-think that.
  7. Think of the silliest thing that annoys you and you'll realize that you are no better than the nameless people you just tagged as not being smart for getting annoyed with this. We all just have different hot buttons. ::humps TrailGators leg:: *scampers off*
  8. We'll also let them decide whether the act of insulting a hypothetical, non-existent group of people qualifies as a personal attack. If you weren't talking about anyone in this thread then what was the point of posting it? Was your comment just random? Maybe you should consider the possible effects of what you write before you hit the "Add Reply" button. *sigh* Maybe you could have familiarized yourself with the brief back story before typing out those accusations and hitting the "Reply" button at the bottom of my post. I was talking about people in this thread. No, my comment was not "random." I was referring to the hypothetical people Castle Mischief mentioned in his post. I chose my words very carefully before I hit the "Add Reply" button. I made a general comment about an imaginary, nonexistent group of people. It was not aimed at anyone specific; nor was it intended to offend anyone. The only point of my comment was to imply that ALL cachers are way too intelligent and mature to allow themselves to be troubled by the hypothetical situation Castle Mischief invented. Many of my recent posts in other threads have been critical of people who go out of their way to choose to feel offended, annoyed, outraged or cheated by things that by all reason ought not to bother them. ReadyOrNot illustrated this phenomenon beautifully by taking personal offense at my post. Logic: Premise A: I made a comment specifically referring to those cachers who choose to be ticked off by owners who claim a FTF on their very own cache. Premise B: No cacher has ever claimed to be ticked off by a cache owner who claimed a FTF on his very own cache. In other words, the set of people I referred to in Premise A contains zero cachers. Premise C: ReadyOrNot is a cacher. Therefore: KBI's conclusion: I insulted zero cachers. ReadyOrNot's conclusion: I insulted ReadyOrNot. ReadyOrNot therefore chose, of his own free will, and against all logic, to be offended. I am appreciative of this, because he has provided me with a convenient case study to refer back to next time I want to demonstrate that no matter how provably benign a thing is, there is always someone who will choose to be offended by it anyway. Macaroni and cheese is one of my favorite foods. it's warm and smooth
  9. I am worried it's too much like a weapon. Thoughts? TB2AXEP

  11. Wow one of my very first threads has turned into a smackfest. Cool!
  12. I'll answer it this way...How can you "find" your own cache when you already know where it is? So I assume that's a no, it's not an acceptable practice. I honestly don't know anyone that has hidden a cache and then gone out to find it and log it. It would be interesting to read the log for one of those.... "That one really had me stumped. I almost gave up and had to log a DNF but then I finally remembered where I hid this thing yesterday. I took a bunch of stuff and didn't leave anything because it was all my stuff anyhow. Thanks for hiding one of the best caches I have ever done." LOL
  13. Yeah but I want ours to "count", but personally I think it would be padding, but it is tempting.

  15. We carry a 12 guage marine flare pistol. 100% legal and sure to 'warm up' someones day .... oh and it fits well in a small pack. What about a small taser gun is that legal out in cali Me and my brother go hiking and if we ran into trouble i wouldn't like to kill someone or an animal but a stun gun might be in order? I have not read the whole thread but the first problem I can see with that is bear fur is thick, the second problem is you have to be able to touch the bear to use it, if you can touch the bear your pretty much done. Personally I think the flare gun is a good idea, but I see a problem with that too. You have to stick around long enough to put out any fires it might start, as well as chasing down a flaming black bear.
  16. So what's the general consensus on logging your own caches as finds in your stats? Is that considered padding or is it acceptable?
  17. Oh BTW Quiggle, I have been in contact with Jefferson Patterson Park. I am on the verge of getting them to open up that park with some rules. The main one is no digging, apparently they had a cacher get in there and bury a cache. Being that it is an active archaeological site I can see why they took offense. I may need to bring you into the mix if they decide they want to talk to a reviewer to drive the "no digging" point home.
  18. I think this is the first time in 3 years I've had one of these. I should try harder. Hey bud I was not slamming you. You reviewed our other one really fast, that's why we were asking. ::paces and slaps forehead muttering:: Don't piss off the reviewer, Don't piss off the reviewer, Don't piss off the reviewer.
  19. I was not dogging on the guy. We are fairly new at this and were just curious.
  20. W00T! Two finds on the first day! So what's the general consensus on logging your own caches as finds in your stats? Is that considered padding or is it acceptable? Hummm that might be a good subject for a new thread.
  21. OK. Lets assume you were just kidding. But, your Reviewer is much closer: Profile for User: Quiggle Of course I was kidding . . . hence the not one but two LOLs.
  22. That would be door #2: volunteers around the world who help out. LOL ahhh gotcha, it's all clear now. Friggin Europeans. lol
  23. Figure up to 72 hours. The revewers are volunteers, they have lives too. I will say that the MD and VA reviewers I've dealt with are top notch in my experience. Someone tell the PTB at Groundspeak that they need raises -Roger Three days really? Is it the website crew that does it or do they have volunteers around the world who help out?
  24. As a forensics guy I would say a body, but that's probably against the geocaching rules.
  25. I only ask because the last one we got listed only took about 24 hours but this one is taking a lot longer. There should be no issues with it since we got permission from the county to place it. I was telling my wife, maybe they don't review new caches on the weekends.
