  1. How nice for you. Now, what does this have to do with geocaching? No need to be bitter. That is not being bitter. MANY threads have been shut down here for not being off-topic, but this one remains. The mods have made it clear that it will not be moved or shut down, because it is somehow magically "grandfathered". I have proposed that a special Tribute forum be created for this and similar threads, but that idea has not panned out. But GeoGeeBee (and myself, and many others that have protested this thread over the years) simply find it to be an annoying inconsistency. PS: I'm a Viet Nam vet. USN, '69-'72. Just saying that this patriotic thread does not belong here, not that it doesn't belong. Man, I have read this post several times now and I still can't figure out what the heck you mean. So I'll ask strait up . . . what does "many threads have been shut down here for not being off-topic", mean? How is this thread not "off topic"? This is the Geocacheing board so anything not dealing directly with geocaching would be considered "Off Topic" right? So this thread would definitely be off topic. Well at least as far as I can tell.

  3. Please don't consider this thread as "chest thumping", it's not. Veterens, reguardless of service, feel a connection civilians do not. We tend to gravitate to each other. I am sure you are very proud of your husband, we are too. There is no greater sacrifice then laying your life down for your brothers in arms. I feel, in this regard, I can speak for every member of this forum who is a vet or a dependent. We respect your husband and we thank him deeply for his sacrifice. Moreover, we respect and thank you, and your family. I can not imagine the grief you have and are feeling. When you married your husband you married his job too, knowing full well the risks of his job. But when the news comes it's still overwhelming I know. If I could, I would hug you and say thank you, but I can't. So knowing I am stepping back from the computer and saluting for your husband and your family will have to be enough. But you know, I am very verbose person; so I will stop here and quote President Lincoln, who said it much better then I ever could. I feel how weak and fruitless must be any words of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering to you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours, to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of Freedom. Yours, very sincerely and respectfully, Abraham Lincoln

  5. Now that answers my question. I was unaware of the restrictions on personal PQs.
  6. True enough but if I could run the My Finds PQ every day or even twice a week I would delete most of the personal PQs I have set up. It's been a long day. I don't understand. So you run a few PQs a week to get your finds? Maybe you should give us a better understanding of what you are trying to accomplish...or am I really having a post-lunch, ready to go home, crash? Okay let me start from the beginning. Normally I use GSAK to generate stats for my profile page. But now there's a website which will do that for you. The only data format that site will accept is the My Finds PQ. So if I choose to use those stats I can only update them every 7 days . . . well 6.5 days So if I have a particularly good day and want to update my stats, I can't, I have to wait until the My Finds PQ becomes available again. It's no big deal really I can always go back to using GSAK. Which accepts PQs that I can run every day if I like.

  8. This is what I am saying. The personal PQs, are often MORE taxing on the servers then the My finds PQ at least the ones I run are. Yet, I can run those every single day. I am beginning to think this might be more about scheduling then about bandwidth. Either way, if someone can provide me with the query criteria for the My Finds PQ I guess I could just duplicate it in a personal PQ.
  9. I'm sure it is just a bandwidth or performance issue on the GS network. But again, from a technical standpoint that makes no sense. They allow people to set up their own queries and set them to run every day. Those queries can be and often are more taxing on the database and the query server then the "My Finds" query. *Scratches head* It just don't make no sense.
  10. Why is it that this query can only be run once every seven days. I can write my own query which pulls much more information is set it to run every day. This makes no sense. Can someone please explain it to me?
  11. I have been trying to find state county maps for months for FindStatGen3 been to the database but those are country maps. I can't find the state maps anywhere.
  12. So I am wondering if it's possible to have more then one email address listed in my profile. My wife and I cache as a team and it would be nice if she was receiving system generated emails too. As it sits everything comes into my mailbox and I have to filter, sort, and forward to her. It's a real pain in the a**. Multiple addresses would be nice.
  13. Not allowed to place food or alcohol in caches
  14. I'd be afraid to pick that one up. I wonder if it would wipe my blackberry? Anyway... wish I could be more helpful. A true rare earth magnet of that side would wipe your credit cards from a couple feet away. It would have enough power to take your arm off if it got between the magnet and metal. I'm not sure it would kill the crackberry but it might just ruin the screen for a while. Truly, you would not be able to separate a magnet that size from a refrigerator unless the magnet was damaged severely (or just rare earth and not really magnetized) Well if I remember the thread correctly there were photos of someone trying to get it back to their car and it got stuck to an iron gate post. Took a lot of effort to get it off. Gosh I wish I could find that thread. I think it was something like Coolest Travel Bugs or something like that. Well, I hope you are remembering incorrectly. I'm hoping it was only a 2inch by 3 inch magnet. Even one that size could bite your fingers pretty hard. I know from experience and the biggest I have played with is about 2X2 inches. I have a personal magnet that I like to give to friends to see if they can get the piece of metal off. Many have tried, few have succeeded. It's only 1.75X1.75 . When they go to put the piece of metal back on, it's always a painful process, sometimes leaving blood blisters. It was big enough that the person carrying it needed a bag to carry it in.

  16. So at some point someone was talking about this giant rare earth magnet travel bug. by giant I mean it was like 2 feet by 3 feet. I can't seem to find the thread and search will not let me search for words less then five letters so basically it's kinda useless for this search. Anyone know where I could find a link to this travel bug.
  17. The real question is how much weight can you put on those sticks?
  18. HECK NO! Less visits means LESS maintainence. So when you get down to no visits we should just archive it and let someone else place a cache in that area? Cause I have to tell ya there are some caches in my area which clearly have not been visited by there owners in a year or more. I am all for "unless your terrain rating is a five; no visits in a year means adios to your cache". Okayyy, ya lost me. How is that not clear? I've had caches of my own and seen other caches go well over a year with no finds and no maintenance issues...... Ya lost me. How is that not clear? Okay caches which are clearly designed to last more then a year are exempted. Ammo cans and things like that. But these tiny caches which require a rubber O ring that friggin dry rots within a year and clearly the owner does not care even after multiple attempts to contact him / her should be archived. grrr
  19. Where did your name come from? We used to be known as the officepuke, but then my wife and daughter wanted to join in and that didn't seem aproprate anymore. Our daughter had this box of really cool blue stones and we thought "We can drop those in caches!"
  20. lootsnoopers I have had dreams with that name in it.
