  1. Good to see a couple of old time Cachers. Still got my memory map from way back when. Still works good. Cant say I’ve been inspired to cache find recently. Only just returned and things have CHANGED. Always kept my virtuals alive due to their rarity nowadays. I enjoy a really good puzzle cache these days. Something to get my teeth into. Did one a few years back now. Am planning on getting my walking boots out again, once my ankle and pelvis fractured are healed. Hope the weather will stay until then.
  2. Many a good caching day out I had with John. Very sad news indeed. Will never forget his little convertible smart car. He was a great character and will be sorely missed. RIP John
  3. Not been on the forums for a while. I have two rare virtual caches which were put out many many years ago. One of the stipulations I put on is for the finder to email me answers from the cache site. This is part of the enjoyment of the cache. I'm sorry to say that I am a bit precious about these caches and some cachers try to guess, and it's obvious they weren't there. If they don't email me the answers, I email them, and if no correct answers, I will delete the log. I have only had to do this twice in the 8 years they have been out.
  4. Just so that everone knows I AM SPARTICUS. and have a t shirt to prove it.
  5. Before investing in a gps, which might not serve your purpose, why don't you try and contact a local cacher and ask if you can go out on a caching trip with them. most of us cachers are pretty approachable and friendly. You will also pick up some good tips on how to find a cache, and what to look out for. This will give you a positive introduction to our addictive sport of geocaching.
  6. Gonna try and be there. Have to see what work wants me to do that week.
  7. The Ipaq 2200 series has a CF port (I think), as well as the SD port. I have been using a CF GPS reciever as well as my bluetooth for Tomtom. Running them together so that when I'm near a destination I turn of TT and go straight to Memmap for the final bit. This may offer an alternative. Only problem is that the CF reciever is great until you get to thick trees. I think it's afraid of the DARK. Hope this has been of use.
  8. Not sure you'll be needing a tent Matt. Check out the final sentence from the underworld 8 bonus cache page. 'Rumour has it a badger once lived toward the very end of the cave, but I've seen no evidence to suggest it still lives there .' Now we now where the stash of alchohol is
  9. Half term on its way in wales. Just found out we have to look after our nieces every day, and they have asked to go caching. My question is simple. we are looking for a multi that takes in several locations and will take a couple of hours. it also can't involve miles of walking as our 2 year old wouldn't cope. I have looked but I thought I'd ask as others may have completed a fab cache that they would like to tell me about. Ta in advance.
  10. Will be there. Me and possibly my 'corned beef tin' as it was so lovingly called last time I used it. (Talking about my caravan of course )
  11. Come on Golem. Do it for the cachers. The quest is certainly an epic one. It took five of us and a dog, ten hours non stop searching to complete. It rates as my number one cache. some caches come close, but this really is an epic .
  12. Heh. Congratulations. Did geocaching have anything to do with you meeting. What a great story that would be. All the best from me and my ball and chain
  13. Hi gary. Nice to see you moving into the 21st century. Not sure about the MIO but I would highly recommend my setup. You saw it at the camping event. HP Ipaq. 2200 series will do the trick. I tested mine yesterday with connection to bluetooth gps and it went, non stop for eight hours using memorymap. If I use my cf card gps this is significantly increased. Im not a great fan of intergrated gps units as it doesn't allow the choice of which gps unit to use, and if you get a duffer, your stuck with it. Andrew
  14. Aparently, Memorymap have a new version which is supposed to work on symbian phones. Never tried it or heard of anyone doing it. My nokia 6600 uses tomtom mobile. Not sure if I want to use it for memory map as well. The battery wouldn't be able to take it. My PDA will have to suffice.
  15. Just look at my picture that was taken whilst on holiday in italy. I call myself sparticus because I am. (Now the voices are starting to hurt)
  16. If its the holox one, it's the same as I have got. I own three bluetooth gps devices and this is my favorite. Are you sure that you PPC hasn't got too many applications running. I use mine on PDA and memory map without any problems. I also use it with my tomtom on my mobile, again, without problems. I have been very impressed by how good it actually is. It met and went beyond my expectations after purchase. Did you buy a dud one perhaps. Try closing applications first before changing the gps as it really is the best i have ever used. (And no, I don't work for the company)
  17. Sorry Moote but I disagree with you. I have always found gc.com open to suggestions. Just because they disagree, doesn't always make them wrong. They are like referees at a football match. They have to make hard decisions which some disagree with. Without them however, there would be annarchy and nobody would have guidelines to follow. If you disagree with a decision the referee has made, we should live with it and not throw our dummys out of the pram, otherwise a red card might be shown.
  18. I know I moved to North wales recently but I can assure you it isn't me . I have met the new moderator last year, or was it 2004 at St Davids day meet on the border of England and wales. Thats how I got who they are. (just another little clue) .
  19. Just hope the weather stays as good as it is at the moment. Hot sunshine and NO RAIN.
  20. I could set one John, especially for the event that I can maintain so no problems with a cache to find. Mind you I have had bother with Dawg gawn cache as micro one has GAWN.
  21. HEH HEH. A cache event near my new house. The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct is only half a mile from my house in Cefn Mawr. Fantastic views from the top (bit scarry to walk though). So definately YES. Me+3 for sure. Keep us informed. Andrew
  22. 1 tent 2 adults and 2 children (Risking a family outing this time!!)
