  1. I think it a really neat idea. I'd just be ready for a lot of TN/LN posts from people without sig. items. There are a few items a usually leave, but because there are 3 I choose from I don't think of them as sig. items. ---I will stand out, I am a raven in the snow.

  3. Is this a vote if you should follow the rule or not? ---I will stand out, I am a raven in the snow.
  4. quote:Originally posted by TeeEff: If geocachers post problems that they find with a cache, such as a cracked container, another geocacher who is planning to visit that cache will read the logs and know this prior to their visit and have the opportunity to replace the container. But what if the post is they can't find it? Do these automatically get archived since the placer can't go check on it to see if it's still there? What if there is a log posted stating somebody bought the property and would like the cache removed ASAP. I can think of many situations where the hider should be able to physically go to the cache. ---I will stand out, I am a raven in the snow.

  8. There is a cache here in Oregon that from Aug til present has had 8 logs stating the cache container needs to be replaced. There are 4 people watching the cache. You would hope one of those people is the owner, but yet there is sits with the rains comming. ---I will stand out, I am a raven in the snow.
  9. We have only be on one where it started raining and trying to write in the log and keep it dry was the hardest part. Everyone know Oregonians don't own umbrellas. In fact, we are thinking we need to buy a small one to take caching to cover the cache when we find it. (Don't tell anyone) ---I will stand out, I am a raven in the snow.
  10. When I find golfballs I always think that somebody decided they needed new ones and think their rejects would be a good cache item or that they found one and thought "hey a free trade item." I feel they rank with McToys and turn caches into free boxes from garage sales. ---I will stand out, I am a raven in the snow.
  11. So somebody logs that the cache containers is cracked and should be replaced or there needs to be a new log book. Are they supposed to go buy that item and replace it? What about if a couple people state they can't find it and think it's missing. Is one of the previous loggers supposed to keep checking in on the off chance they need to make sure another person's cache is still there? ---I will stand out, I am a raven in the snow.

  13. We went to a cache today and it had an gold RR spike in it. Nobody wrote in a log that they left it. Does anyone know if this is somebody's calling card or means something else? ---I will stand out, I am a raven in the snow.
  14. Birds don't believe in gravity. ---I will stand out, I am a raven in the snow.
  15. The above post is just another example. UMC's first find was 12 days ago and he's already got an expert opinion on EVERY topic brought up. It wades down the forums. ---I will stand out, I am a raven in the snow.
  16. I have yet to place a cache, the reason for which I discussed in another forum. My thought is once I place it, maintaining it involves making sure it is still there if someone can't find it, pulling out any food or dangerous items and making sure there is a log book to sign. If it is also a hiders job to make sure there is nice stuff to trade it would be a money pit. Some cachers grab every nice item out of a cache, so the cache would have to be restocked after that one find. With the exception of a few people that trade nice items, it would have to be at least be restocked every 10 visits or so . I think it is the responsibility of the finders to make sure they aren't degrading the cache. ---I will stand out, I am a raven in the snow.
  17. We can put all our Californians there. ---I will stand out, I am a raven in the snow.

  19. If I see something interesting, I'll trade, and I feel I bring nice stuff. If I open up the box and see plastic toys and a golfball, I shake my head, sign the log book and walk away. ---I will stand out, I am a raven in the snow.
  20. Ya, but what kind of sport uses porn? ---I will stand out, I am a raven in the snow.
  21. That's what people write in a log when all there is are dirty golfballs and McToys. ---I will stand out, I am a raven in the snow.
  22. I would have to say that's a no find as well. Searchers would be expected to return to try again if it were in their hometown. I don't think there should be an out-of-state set of rules. Anyway, if people started doing that in places they would never return to, you know it would start happening closer to home. Always one bad apple. ---I will stand out, I am a raven in the snow.
  23. I too did this one and thought it was a risky place to put one. I was a little upset when I saw where finders were expected to go and where they would fall to if they slipped. Then I thought, it's up to each person to decide what caches they will attempt. I'm sure if I were 75lbs lighter it wouldn't have been such a big deal. If I were to go on one that was suspended in a tree and I didn't want to climb the tree to get to it, it's a no find. The idea isn't to just see the cache. ---I will stand out, I am a raven in the snow.
  24. My wife needed a new palm and I found geocaching when looking for a GPS unit I thought we'd just use for driving. 68 finds later and that is still what we are using. The only problem come with the rains, we put the whole unit in a baggie and it is a little harder to see. It was very economical though. Sure you can get a GPS that will do the same thing but, the companion has a lot bigger screen and came with the stuff that will add $$$ to a standard GPS. I don't understand why they sell mapping GPS units without the detailed maps. That's why you are buying the thing. I'm sure I'll change my tune the first time we drop it, but it fits nicely in my pocket and that's where it goes when footing get tricky or I'm climbing. ---I will stand out, I am a raven in the snow.
  25. what is it about dollar store items that you don't like. I don't need one, but compared to a dirty golfball, a brand new, in the package calculator is like gold. ---I will stand out, I am a raven in the snow.
