  1. As the saying goes, "Second place is the first loser." The first person to find that a cache is gone is the first person that should log a no find. It's a regular cache, not a virtual. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  2. There are forums for different areas of the US. Just scroll down the page of forums a bit. You can post a note there asking for people to reply or e-mail you if there live in a certain area. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  3. Never seen a cache with more than 1, but yes, this sounds rude. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  4. I just read your new section in your FAQ covering pocket queries. That answered my question on how I could take a road trip with an unplanned course and still have an idea of what caches are around. A great reason to pay for membership. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  5. Also note they have to be in .jpg format and must be under 100k. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  6. On the record I think we all do it for the fun of finding the cache and seeing new places. Off the record when it raining outside we're looking up the "scores" on Dan's site. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  7. I sent an e-mail a couple days ago to Groudspeak asking about the die they were going to make available, but no reply yet. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  8. I think it depends how big the trees are and how close you are to them. We recently did a cache where the trail is surrounded by leafless trees. We were getting a good signal when the trail was E/W, but when we turned a corner and were going N/S, we lost any siginal. Just because the leaves are gone doesn't mean a bunch of trunks can't block the siginal. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  9. quote:Originally posted by Captain_Morgan&Family: Perhaps, if they do it on the area, which has great cache density. But here where i live, we have VERY FEW traditional caches. Personally, I don't want to stop this hobby just because i have no new traditional caches to find, so that's why i log locationless ones. On the other hand, soon i don't have here any more locationless caches to find as the geocaching.com administrators have tightened the rules... Sounds like you are the guy to up the cache count in your area. Why no put your efforts into hiding more? ---Real men cache in shorts.
  10. I'm looking through the list of Portland area caches that are unavailable and reading the logs to see what happened to them. There are many that make no meantion as to why they are unavailable and many that state they are going to be replaced like in a week (when it was written months ago). I'm curious as to why a hider would make their cache unavailable without any explaination and when the people that said they were going to replace their cache are going to get out there and do it. There are some that looked like fun. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  11. If it's a place you go often, get the coordinates the first time, check it out and then place it the next time you go. If it's a plce you don't go to often, this is just ANOTHER of many examples in the forums of the things that can happen when you place a cache you can't maintain. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  12. MARKWELL!!! Don't forget water. Gloves for blackberry bushes. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  13. You get credit for creating the cache. Your "find" should be used as an example in the cache description and not logged as a find. A moving cache is different because you have no idea where it is. Your "find" for a locationless is the place that sparked the idea for the cache. It's just like getting the coordinates for a regular cache. They didn't find the cache, they had to get the coordinates to hide it. You had to have something in mind to start the cache. 1 cache = 1 added number to cache count (found OR hidden). ---Real men cache in shorts.
  14. If it's going to be that close why place it there? The cachers will already be in the area, you won't be taking them anywhere new. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  15. All the caches I have found were left where they were. So are they found or still lost because I didn't tell them where they were? ---Real men cache in shorts.
  16. I like the ones that take you away from people. I always wonder what somebody found special enough about a location to put a cache in it when it's being overlooks by 5 apartments or a parkinglot. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  17. Pubs wouldn't be a very original idea for a locationless, just like meantioned before you could do the same the McDonalds or any other place. There is a multistage cache around here that uses the locations of a chain of brewpubs as the waypoints. Check this one out. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  18. I feel that signature cards and magnets are something to leave regardless of the trade. They aren't really trade items, but a little something for the cache placer. I've seen some people that leave a nut and bolt or an old RR spike, just calling something a sig. item doesn't make it trade worthy. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  19. I don't think some of you understand. You can get GPSrs that simply clip onto a PDA making it one unit. No tougher to use than a stand alone GPS. And to meantion again the big screen size is awesome when it's mounted up on the windshield. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  20. #1 the person finding the cache 100' off should post the coordinates they got in their found log where there is a space for that sort of thing. So people aren't great about getting good coordinates and if several people find it and post the same coordinates the cache placer should defer to those and change the posted coordinates or go look to see if it was moved. #2 I usually just add a line about not much in the cache in my found log. Then is the cache owner cares about the condition of the cache that will singnal time for a visit. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  21. I'm not in law enforcement, but I do watch Matlock. If she gets the hotel records and that proves he was there it wouldn't matter if the wife made the track herself right? Now, we are going to need the hotel records, bank records and question people at the restaurant. Where should I start? ---Real men cache in shorts.
  22. They sound like a good deal as long as you will promise to put them in ammo cans so there won't be any logs about all the contents being wet. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  23. We use a palm m130 with a navman gps. It's a thin unit that clips onto the back of the palm. It came with street mapping software, a car power cord and a window mount. It's not as rugged as a stand-alone GPS, but with the m130 it has a larger display and it's in colour. ---Real men cache in shorts.

  25. This cache needed updated or confirmed coordinates and maybe a better hint. Instead of fixing it, that cache was archived without any finds and this cache was put up adding to placed cache count. What's up with that? ---Real men cache in shorts.
