  1. Thanks ~erik~ and ClayJar! I modified the cache description and now ask to validate a log my emailing me some information that can only be known if you were on the spot. What is general "etiquette" here? Should I delete logs from people that didn't send me the info? (possibly after a first "warning") Also, what is this "Permanently encrypt" feature for? Regards, Jiheffe Don't Dream It... Be It!
  2. Hello, I recently posted a cache, "Waterloo 1815", which is a nice walk around the battlefield of Waterloo in Belgium. It actually consists of a series of waypoints, at each of which you have to search for a clue that will guide you to the next one, and so on. There is no cache to find, it's just a nice walk. Actually, the walk passes along another cache I placed, "The Eagle's Last Battle", and I suggest the cache hunters to look at this cache as well. I categorized it as a "Multi-Cache". Now I am wondering if I should make it a virtual cache, as there is nothing to "find" (except the nice surroundings ). Also, should I ask people to validate their visit, E.g. by e-mailing me the coordinates of a specific landmark? All comments are welcome! Greetings from (at the moment) sunny and cold Belgium! 3. Hi, I did the cardboard trick this weekend to pull out the springs a little, and it seems to work. Didn't actually take the unit on the bike, but I gave it some rude shocks, even dropped it from about 50 cm (2 feet) on the ground , and it didn't switch off . Jiheffe Don't Dream It... Be It!
  4. Hey, thanks, Joske, didn't know about www.geocaching.nl I've put it in my favorites ! Jiheffe Don't Dream It... Be It!
  5. Hi, I am going to place a geocaching page on my website, and I thought it would be a good idea to place a list of "geocachers recommended" shops for GPS equipment. If you have good addresses to recommend, let me know, I will put them on the page. Greetings, Jiheffe Don't Dream It... Be It!
  6. Thanks wyoduckhunter and criminal, I'll give it a try! What still bothers me is the fact that it seems it has to do a full reacquisition of satelites afterwards... Jiheffe Don't Dream It... Be It!
  7. Does anybody know if Garemin, Magellan, etc... have plans to make a GPSr with Bluetooth link? I know some manufacturers make bluetooth "GPS mice", E.g. for car usage with a Pocket PC and Tom-Tom maps, but what I look for is a full featured GPSr that could be mounted on a bike handlebar, and at the same time have my Pocket PC with OziexplorerCE in my pocket, tracing my logs etc... on scanned topo maps. What I do now is trace my trail on my Etrex, and back home I import them in Oziexplorer. From there, I download them to the PPC. Quite cumbersome... Jiheffe Don't Dream It... Be It!
  8. Hello, I use my yellow Etrex for biking, and have it mounted on the handlebar. It has the bad habit to switch off when I ride on uneven surfaces, like rocky paths. It does not have to be a really important shock, even relatively light ones make it turn off. In the receivers specs, they quote "Dynamics: 6g". Does anyone know what this means in terms of shock resistance? Can the battery form factor be a cause? I use rechargeable batteries, and I've read sometime ago that their form factor is slightly smaller that disposable batteries? Also, I noticed that when I switch it on again, it seems like it does a cold acquisition, starting with an empty satellites screen, and taking several minutes to acquire signals. Did anybody experience this also? Jiheffe Don't Dream It... Be It!
  9. Hi everybody, and thanks to hiking.be for getting this forum online! Let's start with a very "traditional" thread How many geocachers are active in Belgium? Greets, Jiheffe Don't Dream It... Be It!

  12. Hello, Does anybody know exactly how the "Battery Save" mode in the Garmin Etrex works? I went out to search my first stach yesterday, and lost plenty of time because the unit wasn't able to guide me precicely. Ik kept indicating the location was within 40-50 meters, not closer, but continuesly changed heading, sometimes switching 180°... I blamed the dense foliage ("Boomerang" stach in Belgium), and was near to abandon, when I found out the unit was in "Battery Save" mode. I put it in "Normal" mode, and then my unit directed me without problem to right spot, about 80 meters from where I was first searching... It brough me within 6 meters of the stach. I afterwards went for the "Ocean Treasure" stach, and found it immediately, with again 5-6 meters precision. Just wondering... Jiheffe Don't Dream It... Be It!
