    DNR

It's been nearly a year and I'm still pissed about this. I haven't look for a geocache since this happened. Sigh... I'm coming up on my 10 year geochaching anniversary too. I've not paid much attention lately. Have there been any other developments to this situation? I see the FWA property I had my caches on doesn't seem to have any now. I guess that's because it's mostly water (reclaimed mine pits) and no real established trails to keep within 25 feet of.

    DNR

I'm toast: "Caches may not be placed more than 25 feet from developed roads or trails." Mine, and several others in Bluegrass FWA are only accessible via watercraft. Again, Bluegrass is RECLAIMED STRIPMINE. You are not protecting any "sensitive species" on this FWA property. These actions seem to fly in the face of the purpose of having these wild areas—for people to use them and enjoy raw nature! I'll take 1 cache in the woods over 50 "urban" caches. Bluegrass FWA will be limited to 12 caches. I'm guessing there are at least 70 there. I don't understand why you can't have an Earthcache on FWA properties. This makes no sense to me. I love the photo on the DNR page. A huge group of geocachers all happy and smiling. I'm currently not one of them. Why is there not more outcry over this? Maybe when thousands of popular cache listings disappear in a couple of weeks...

    DNR

I completely agree that this is a net negative. I really don't see the point on multi-use type properties that my caches are on. It's ex-stripmine land for peat's sake. So what is the recourse? It seems the rules are already set with no input from the tax-payers. This is currently on the IDNR site: "Geocaching - The policy is being revised to allow more flexibility for geocaching on our properties and to ensure that all caches placed are properly permitted. All existing caches will be archived by Groundspeak (geocaching.com) between October 1 - November 1, 2012 and new licenses for the placement of caches will be required. Cache limits on DNR properties will be enforced, but there will be more DNR sites available for caches, particularly those with no containers. The new license form will be available about November 1. Thanks for your patience."
  4. I'm using LoadMyTracks http://www.cluetrust.com/LoadMyTracks.html to send GPX data to a Garmin, but I think it works with Magellan also. I use Palm Desktop for Mac to send the eBook to a old Palm I've got. The eBook has all the data off the Cache page, clues and all. I'm getting this data using Pocket Queries, a feature for paying members to the site, but LoadMyTracks will also transfer the free LOC files to your GPSr. Sure beats printing out clues and hand entering cords.
  5. So much for wishing CNv8 was going to be Mac compatible... I bough a Garmin specifically because of the expected Mac compatibility. What a load of crap, freaking vaporware.
  6. If you have a USB Garmin, Load My Tracks will import and export (tracks and .loc) from it with a simple clean interface
  7. Thanks for the info! I'm still hoping Garmin will fulfill it's promise to have ALL it's software Mac compatible by the end of the year. They just released a firmware patch for my Venture CX that allows mounting the microSD on the Desktop so it looks like things are looking good.
  8. ah, it's a option in the new Setup>Interface menu. Mounted just fine.
  9. We're you able to mount your microSD card? I updated to v2.50 and it still doesn't mount.
  10. Just got a reply from Garmin tech support, just FYI: Problem: Will the new City Navigator V8 be Macintosh compatible? Do you have any timetables on the release of other Mac compatible programs such as the POI Loader and Firmware updates? Reply: To follow up with you're inquiry, as of right now we are not supporting Mactintosch. In the fourth quarter of this year (9-30 through the third Saturday of December ) we will be supporting Mac OS X. I believe this will be a change to our USB drivers, I can not comment on what will be done with the software. You will not be expected to pay for any accessories you may need for this compatiablity. The City Navigator initially will not be Mac compatibile, only until they release what needs to be done to make it compatible with the Mac platform. Regards, Justin So there you go... I was really crossing my fingers that the delay in v8 release date was to add in Mac compatibility...
  11. I think you should give it a try, there are several devices on the compatibility page.
  12. OMG! It totally works!!! Download it now! http://www.cluetrust.com/LoadMyTracks.html The only problem I've seen so far is that it doesn't use the "treasure chest" icon (geocache icon) for a uploaded waypoint. But I just opened the program so there may be options for that. Downloading tracks to KML Google Earth is extremely cool!
  13. Yep, I don't think the new eTrex cx USB only models can use Simple GPS. I've tried it and every other shareware program out there to try and transfer from my iMac G5 to my Venture CX with no luck. I've heard MacGPS Pro does work, but I don't want to pay for something if Garmin is going to release Mac software "...by the end of the year." Plus they don't have a demo that I can test to be sure. If anyone has found a way, please post!
