  1. I received a wonderful Look twice for bikers coin in the mail today. Thanks again for the fun and the coin!
  2. I'll send you something. Following on from what I wrote before there will be a 2-29 event here in Tallinn. I'm finalizing the details over the week and will be listing it early next week. It will be my first event and want it to be a good one:) So, I am going to be a bit cheeky. Would anyone be willing to donate a Geocoin as I don't have the cash for prizes for the event I would be eternally grateful.

Thanks! firennice, did you get the mail I sent you through your gc.com profile?
  4. Yes. Yes it does. Our freedom of speech gives us the right to say almost anything (slander and things like yelling "Fire!" in a crowded theater that isn't actually on fire are two examples of what we can't say), regardless of how dumb, insensitive, or offensive they may be. People would be extremely dissapointed/offended/hurt/insulted/angered by such coins as you mention, but the creators would still be protected by their First Amendment rights and have the right to mint and try to sell such coins. I know Freedom of Speech would still apply. I didn't phrase my question very well. What I meant to ask was: would you still be in favor of such a coin being produced, fighting for it with the Freedom of Speech argument? Of course Groundspeak has the last say on this, and I also think (and hope) they will not approve of the swastika (more than anything I hope it won't go unnoticed during the approval process and slip by that way). No-one can stop anyone from making a non-trackable version with the swastika on it, but I would strongly discourage the production of these too. If only for the practical reason that they may end up as swag in caches in countries where such items are against the law, creating problems for the CO and/or other involved geocachers. A geocoin is never going to be a realistic representation of anything. There are many reasons why one needs to deviate from the original item one is trying to base a geocoin on (material, size, colors, detail, etc. etc.). The reason discusses here seems like a valid one to me.

Also need to resolve a small problem with firennice before I can send their coin out (mail sent).
  6. I am pretty sure there are thingsthat Americans wouldn't like to see on geocoins either. How about a geocoin shaped like the planes that dove into the Twin Towers, with a tiny Osama Bin Laden in the cockpit? Does freedom of speech still apply then? Also, I don't think you can compare the nazi period to the Civil War, Napoleontic wars (or anything else for that matter). And not even because of its unparalleld scale (6 million jews exterminated alone, not to mention all other victims). I am pretty sure that 50 years after Napoleon a geocoin modeled after him would have been frowned upon (had they existed then of course). Maybe nazi/Hitler themed geocoins wil be no problem at all in say another 150 years. Right now the wounds are still too fresh for people to purely look at the historic aspects of subjects like this. As has been mentioned before, geocoins are supposed to be fun, light and family-friendly. 'politically' loaded thems are not the only problematic ones. I remember a couple of years ago I believe Dorkfish made a geocoin with nude people on it, and could only make a non-trackable one. Everybody understood the logic behind that. Nobody raised the 'freedom of speech' point then. So maybe if you really MUST make a coin with the swastika on it (personally I'd much prefer if you didn't), you could make trackable ones without and non-trackables ones with this horrible symbol.
  7. Well I don't think (and don't hope) that Groundspeak will approve a design that WILL be illegal in their second biggest market (Germany). I'm not German, but Dutch, and feel very strongly against this too. As I suspect a lot of Europeans will.
  8. Personally I would not produce any coins containing the Swastika. I understand the 'historic relevance', but please be aware that something like this may for example be abused for propaganda purposes by neonazis. I think you could very well replace this symbol with something else, using the same color scheme. It's been asked already, but I also was wondering if this design has been approved already by Groundspeak.

    A geocoin biography

A wonderful surprise arrived for bruchino in the mail today. Getzie Familie thank you very much! Two perfect coins for bruchino's collection: a red jeep with spare wheel and a red fire truck with 4 spinning wheels!
  10. I like the idea of such a tick box too, but I think it should be filled in by the OLD owner, not the NEW one. That way if you trade or sell a coin to someone, you can make sure the old logs remain as a courtsey to your finders, and the new owner knows what the deal is. I don't see any advantage to the new owner ticking the box (that would not change anything compared to the current situation: they would still do simply as they pleased).
  11. If I am not badly mistaken, releasing a proxy without having ever released the original coin first, IS actually against Groundspeak rules.
  12. You suggested they log a discovery with a "current date", i.e. not the actual date they saw the coin. This would make it a virtual log.
  13. Apparently you have not read my reaction to the first post in which you made this statement. Mileage on coins in this analogy is not to be taken literally. The complete histry of the coin is part of its 'mileage, metaphorically speaking, not just the distances travelled, but also the discoveries.
  14. Doesn't look like a trackable coin to me. And good luck trying to reach the set minimum!
  15. I understand the metaphore can be confusing, as coins can indeed also have literal mileage. But of course here I meant mileage in a less literal sense: the past history of the coin, including the discoveries. Also, I feel it's quite a slippery slope if it depends on the originality, length or whatever other aspect of logs whether they are worthy to be kept. Also it's quite confusing to see that TPTB are not even in sync on this, since a reviewer unarchived the logs, only for them to be archived again (by Eartha I assume). If the guiidelines state that a geocoin should be handled like a cache, then I don't see the logic in allowing log removal for the reasons that are in play here. A clearer and uniform stand on thisd would help. And of course a geocoin is not a kidney. Nor is geocaching life saving brain surgery. They are however the topics of these forums (and a source of income for quite a few people).
  16. Well on used cars one is not allowed to mess with the mileage.
  17. Sounds like the one I am looking for: I don't have many trades at the moment, but I'll send you a mail! I have an All-Season Caching Summer coin, although I am not sure of the year. It has a tree with an ammo can behind it next to a picnic basket and blanket and a hot air balloon in the background. I'm willing to trade if you are interested, send me a list of your traders

    A geocoin biography

The people from Its Not About The Numbers noticed this thread and dedicated an article to it!
  19. I scored a staggering 86% But I probably had some of the loooooongest wish lists. All looks good, just a few tiny hickups on my end. I ended up with two Crop Circles coins (+ pins) and two Cache to the moon coins (+ pins). Anyone interested in a trade There were some really amazing trades, and one a bit disappointing (but again, my own fault: a Venetian Mask trading for an activated Geocoin Club coin). Thanks for the great work Chuck!
  20. Maybe you'll get lucky by posting here: http://www.gcinfo.no/?q=node/46 One of my AITF is Norwegian Ship 2008, ...if someone have one to sell or trade??
  21. My invention: Almost Impossible To Find
  22. Yes thanks for the reassurance But I thought: you never know if maybe someone was eyeing the gold one specifically,e.g. if they already had the gold one. Anyway I've doublecheckd all other coins and they are all as listed. Sounds like they're simply choosing the Nickel one ahead of time No problem! TMA
  23. Oops, I just noticed I made a mistake in my coin listing. I mentioned that whoever ends up with coin 471 (DDRAMS) would be able to choose between Gold and Niickel. However, I noticed just now that I have activated the Gold one. The Nickel coin is unactivated. I hope this will not cause any trouble.
  24. Looking for Delfts Blauw #1 Windmolen (Windmill) Offering Delfts Blauw #3 Trapgevel (Stepped Gable) (activated) PLUS Abacus Cache Counter 3-tone (choice of AC or BN) Also still looking for: Happy Caching Pig Micro Orange Dutch Micro (2006 and/ or 2009) IRC Poffertjes 2009 DragonFly 2007 Multicolor All Season Caching 2006 Summer And of course these AITF coins: Any Earth Turtle V1 Mrs & Mrs Loggerhead Dark Side of the Cache
