Did you meet your significant other because of Geocaching?
JKMonkey replied to Snoogans's topic in General geocaching topics
the youngest cacher in my area is in her forties (I'm 18), yeah... -
if its on private property that isnt yours then you need permission, otherwise any cachers who go to find it could be fined or even arrested for trespassing
-
yeah they could just say "hey, be patient" but instead they say that because of peak season you could be waiting for a week

Trouble performing under pressure?
JKMonkey replied to The_Incredibles_'s topic in General geocaching topics
lol, I was expecting something much different when I clicked on this link xD but yeah when I first introduce any of my friends to caching I find that I have a hard time finding caches that I would normally find with ease -
those ones where you decrypt the jumbled letters and they decrypt into other jumbled letters, happens especially with mystery/puzzle caches and they piss me off since I'm too stupid to know how to solve them

December of 2011, actually. Forum discussion well i was only two years off of course the cache he was going for was unsuitable, what i dont understand is why he didnt recognize this and stop. had a reviewer noticed that it was in a dangerous location it would have been taken down and the find wouldnt have been counted anyway, sad really

didnt a cacher fall off of a bridge in Germany in like 2009 while caching? I know I've seen the story somewhere...

honestly ive never found it all that useful since i cache with my iphone, but if your using a non-3g enabled device i could see it coming in handy

There are several awesome Virtuals in Arlington National Cemetary that I hope to grab on my trip down there in two weeks. As for regular caches, I know a few cachers who have placed caches in cemeteries with no problem.

What is the most popular state for Geocaching?
JKMonkey replied to floridabiker1's topic in General geocaching topics
I would imagine that Washington and Oregon would be the best areas for caching. That area got geocaching first and I would imagine it stayed in the area for a bit before expanding around the nation, giving the region a type of head start. -
Is this a bug, or have I missed something?
JKMonkey replied to Condorito's topic in General geocaching topics
D.C. is listed on the states list as it's own state. -
a better GPS than an iPhone 4...

why would I hate how easy something is?

$25. , not $150. If that's changed since the 5th (post #36), please send a link. wow, the last time i heard about it about six or so months ago it was $150, they must have really dropped the price

Quesion on Geocaching rules -- no corporate advertising?
JKMonkey replied to FiveEyes's topic in General geocaching topics
Companies like Geico and Jeep partnered with Groundspeak a while back in doing specialized commercials through Groundspeak for their companies, so I would imagine they are allowed to use certain caches as advertising, promotes the game as much as their companies, almost like a win-win. -
I know that in Pennsylvania, in order to place a cache in a State Park, you need to purchase a permit from the State Parks Service that costs about $150, which I thought was kind of outrageous until I found out that you can also get the permit by providing eight hours of service for the Parks Service, which is pretty neat and something I'll probably look into this Summer.

Create then abandon a cache? Absentee COs.
JKMonkey replied to FolsomNatural's topic in General geocaching topics
Someone in my area did the same thing only they never removed/archived the caches. They placed their last cache in January of 2012 and have not placed a cache, provided maintenance on a cache, or even logged on since. Just leaves a bunch of decrepit, rotting caches lying around that can't be upgraded because they are still owned, sad sight really. -
Most caches found in 24 hours - data only
JKMonkey replied to ventura_kids's topic in General geocaching topics
someone on the forums once said they found 1,200 caches in a 26 hour power run. how many of those that were found in 24 hours and whether or not it was confirmed is unknown. -

Glue (liquid nails) instead of nails in a tree
JKMonkey replied to TheWeatherWarrior's topic in General geocaching topics
actually youd be surprised how little putting nails in a tree actually harms the tree itself, much less than the chemicals in the liquid nail mixture, which is usually only used because the chemical bonds within the mixture hold up much better over time than actual nails do under the same conditions -
since the cache is the size of a log, i would consider it a regular, since the rating is used for cache size and not log size
-
i can understand being a foot or two off without the reviewer minding much, but twelve is a bit much and might get your cache denied, why not make it a four part cache instead of six? This way you'll have the room and be ensured to get it posted.
