  1. Ok, so I went to the link and read the description, but when I clicked on the contact info link, it took me to an online white pages that only gave me drinking water companies! So then I went and searched the forest service website, but the only campgrounds they list in that area are Denny Creek, Tinkham, Middle Fork, and Lake Kachess. Anyone know how I get in contact with Crystal Springs?
  2. Dang, and I was leaning toward Denny Creek too...Anyone have an opinion on Tinkham?
  3. Unfortunately, if the APE is still buried in snow, so are the hikeable camp locations up there. Lower down, The Tiger Mountain Trail has a very cool spot to camp at near this cache if you're up for a moderate hike to get there. According to the pics in one of the latest logs for the APE cache, it's no longer covered with snow, but there's still a goodly amount of the stuff at both ends of the tunnel. I've never camped in the area, but when googling ]Iron Horse tunnel camping, there were lots of links returned. And Totem Lake knows his stuff...I'd check out his recommendation. Hope to see you at the event! Thanks for the input! We'll check it out. As of right now, we're planning on being there, but I'll go post an RSVP as soon as its concrete!
  4. Does anyone know of good camping in the area? My sister-in-law has a bunch of vacation during the end of June and offered to take the kids so we could go camping on our own (ah, the bliss!), and this would be awesome to plan around! The APE has been on our list for a long time! Thx in advance!
  5. [quote name= This is why I am hooked on geocaching - the ability to mesh a game into what I love most, the outdoors and the natural world. Even better is that it takes me places I would have never gone otherwise, like deep under the earth and to geysers in parking lots, heh. Here, here!
  6. 2006 Prius. We've had it less than a year, and already our caching adventures have seen it down dirt roads, forestry maintenance roads, and stuck in a snow filled ditch! All it needed were the chains though and we were good to go! Those things are tougher than they look, and you couldn't ask for better handling!
  7. Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try!
  8. Oh No, not another cache where the cache owner told you exactly what and where it is in the description. For example: It is a 5" by 7" tupperware container with a blue lid that's under some brush behind the fallen log that's about ten feet off the trail just after the footbridge. I mean come on, how is that any fun? Where's the mystery?
  9. Hey all! I know this is slightly off topic, but we're looking for one of those kid trailers that can convert to a stroller, and will fit two kids so that we can do the longer trail caches with the kids (who are 2 and 4). If you have one that you'd be willing to part with for around $40 (or less ), let me know! Thanks! ~tianac2
  10. Hi all! My husband and I are avid cachers in Washington State and I have often told my grandma about our adventures, and she is intrigued! The problem is that obviously I can't take her out and show her what it's all about in person. She is in her fifties and is a spunky little thing! If anyone would be willing to show her our great sport, we would both appreciate it greatly! If you would be willing to help out, please email me through my profile and I will give her your email address and give you hers. Thanks in advance!
  11. Thank you for your help! Does anyone know if there are any mapping software other than Garmin's that can be uploaded to the GPS?
  12. Ok, so long story short, I recently upgraded from a Geko to a Legend Cx and just got MS Streets and Trips for my birthday. My question is can this be loaded into the GPS, and even if I can is it decent software, or should I exchange it for something else? (The giver, my husband, admits to knowing nothing about mapping software and said he won't mind if I exchange it). Thanks in advance for your help! tianac2
  13. These caches are good but don't require a hike or have a "GREAT" view. There are several others that offer more I think. That's great! Let us know which ones!
  14. I'm just starting out on the WDC, and as I plan I always wonder which caches are really worth the cross-state trip. So here's my idea, post the absolutely can't miss caches on your home page (or work page, or even a page that you only visited but the cache is just that good). Also, include what makes them so special, but be sure not to give away any important details that may ruin the hunt or the surprise (if there is one). Here's some to start: Pg. 44 ~ Anything by the Caching Cowles Clan, but especially Art of Aberdeen: Imaginary Menagerie: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...81-b18b51fa363f This one takes the seeker on a walk to explore some very interesting art in downtown Aberdeen ending with a very sneaky final. A Cog in the Wheel http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...97-df8b6627cf64 This one takes creativity to an extreme, but plan to spend some time here as most finders have mentioned either multiple attempts or some serious thinking time. Polson Steam Donkey http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...c4-d283ff77c84f Like the previous cache this one is a trickster, but very fun! A Little Looney http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...85-d4bb04cc72c3 This cache is an area favorite for its sheer creativity. SuDoKu http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...8e-963b352b4be7 This cache is forever captured in my camera phone, and is what I show people when trying to explain geocaching. Although it involves solving a sudoku puzzle to get the coords, its not a difficult one, and well worth the time. Thanks in advance to all who give suggestions!
  15. I saw in several recent logs of caches in my area mention of a Delorme Challenge, and by searching the forums, I figured out what that was, but I can't seem to find the actual challenge for Washington state, I found the one for Pennsylvania... So, was this a specific time frame thing and its over now? If not, does anyone have the link? Thanks a bunch!
  16. Hi everyone! Like so many others, I had just about settled on the Legend Cx to get over this weekend as part of REI's sale, but then I read at length the thread in this forum about the problems others have been having with their Cx's. I am now thoroughly confused. That said, I would appreciate the sage advice of my fellow cachers. Here's my dilemma: Despite the fact that they have been discontinued, my local Wal-Mart still carries the Legend C for $242 +tax. However, I could go to the nearest REI (about an hour away) tomorrow and get the Legend Cx for $229 no tax (it's in Portland where they don't have sales tax), and the $50 rebate, making it $179 out the door. So what would you suggest? Also, if anyone has owned one of each, what kind of difference did you notice between the two? Thanks for your help!
  17. Hey all! I just wanted to let you all know that as I was looking for a different unit online today, I came across an eXplorist 300 on Overstock.com for $104, plus this weekend they're doing $1 shipping on all orders. Magellan's website lists MSRP at $199, but I don't know what they're going for elsewhere. Just thought I'd pass it along!
  18. Actually, the whole thing didn't go too badly . He was a friend of a friend, so I didn't have to tell him myself (thank goodness!), but apparently he was ok with me just replacing it. I actually ended up buying the one mentioned above for $80
  19. Ok, I admit it, I'm a total newbie! So, now (please forgive my ignorance) what exactly is a pocket query?
  20. I was recently reading a log made on a cache in my area and the guy said that he got off work, got in his truck, fired up his GPS, and lo and behold, the was one less than 200 feet from his truck. How on earth did he do that?! Did he somehow download all of the WP's into his GPS? Is there some other earth shattering secret? Thanks in advance!
  21. Thank you so much, I think it is still under waranty, so I'll look into that!
