  1. JUST when I thought it was melting enough to get out... Just shovelled about 6 inches of dry powder off my walkway! Sheesh... And I was all set to go today!
  2. Looks like this thread is dying out again! Anyone looking to go geocaching this weekend (Turkey Day weekend)? I've got four days off, and the weather's supposed to be good... Would love to get together with someone to go huntin'! I'm in the North Denver area, but am willing to travel! Let me know!!! We really need to have another event. I love getting together with people to hunt, and since I got separated, buddies are hard to find!
  3. Which ebook reader program are you using? If it's CacheMate, I may be able to help...
  4. And in my case (and bugmama42's too from what we talked about the last time we went "mountain caching"), I love the good hikes and hides in the mountains... I agree! Enough of THOSE showing up on someone's logs may give them a hint!
  5. I keep mine in my fanny pack, along with the Garmin eTrex, pen, and multiple stash items to trade... I usually don't do more than 2-3 a day, so I have no problems with space.
  6. I've noticed three caches so far that supposedly had travel bugs, and none of them were there. Do people just not log them? I thought I had a great one this time, and nothing, zip, nada... A little disappointing to not be able to help it on its way... Any thoughts?
  7. OK, so why not just either 1) print out the directions to the general area and go from there, or 2) upload the directions into a PDA? Why does one device have to do everything? LOL I'm a techno-geek, but even I print out directions for use in the car...
  8. In my opinion, ALL caches are worthy of someone... Some people are out for a challenge, and those people love the micros simply because they are harder to find in some areas than ammo cans... On the other hand, I FINALLY found a cache with an ammo can, and it was a tough find. But with my daughter along, I'd love to have her find a few, simply because it keeps her interested, and the micros are good for that. Not always obvious, but at least "findable" for a small child (she's 10, and not always easy to keep on track!) I think a rating system, from experience with other "games" (4-wheeling multi-stop campaigns, etc) inevitably hurts the game, because the majority are looking for a challenge, and those who aren't, lose out because they can't find "just enough" of a challenge to keep them interested, while still allowing them access. Hopefully this will keep on long after I'm gone, cause I'd like to be remembered as a cacher who kept after each and every cache, regardless of the community opinions of every cache. Some may be dumb hides, or lazy hides, but there's enough good ones to keep me smiling til the next weekend!
  9. I guess we've been lucky so far, albeit only 3 "finds" so far, but the caches in our area seem to be good hides, good locations, and yes, one took us almost 30 minutes scouring the creek beds only to find that the true location was 0.100 off on a coordinate. I started to get upset about that, but then realized that I had had so much fun looking with my wife (bugmama42) that it wasn't worth getting upset about! I can see where micros might be a pain if the creator didn't use a little thought, and that's why we haven't run out and created one yet. We've got a great location (NNE corner of Denver, LOTS of open spaces and woodlands), yet I don't want to just "create another cache" just to say I've done one. heheh One actually led us up the WRONG side of a 10' creek, and we had to double back and re-try after a half mile hike... But that in itself was worth it, cause we got to see a HUGE owl take flight on the wrong side of the creek, not 30 feet from us. If it's numbers you're after, maybe this isn't the pastime for you. If it's getting out and sharing something new and unique in this world of instant gratification and cheap thrills, then keep on keepin' on! Just my $.15 (adjustment for inflation since the first years I heard that term)... We do a fair amount of travelling, and I'm planning on getting my wife a GPS before her birthday just so she has one of her own. I hope the fun of this never ends!!
  10. I'm getting that idea! Lots of people with talent... And what a way to show it. One thing my Dad used to tell me "Anyone can make art it big ways... It takes REAL talent to make art in small ways". I'm starting to believe him! LOL Thanks everyone, I'm heading out in a while to see if I can bag my second cache find!
  11. Well, I tried to load an image, but it just comes up as "IPb Image"... Any clues on how to post images? Thanks!
  12. I'm new to geocaching, and am looking forward to my first find. The question I have is, does anyone make their stash items? I'm a leathercrafter, and so I've got a couple already made to put in the stash. Would be fun to hear from folks that find 'em! I'll see if I can attach a pic to this of my stash item...
