  1. Well, I started it, I guess I get to close it. Thread closed. Sorry if you didn't get your 2 cents in.
  2. Some thoughts from today: I was trying to think about Geowoodstock and Myotis's numbers run from his perspective. Can you imagine being on said numbers run, and realizing after an hour or 2 that it was all lame micros, you weren't enjoying them, and that you still had 10 hours to go? Cooped up in a van with the same strangers, trying to be polite about it? It's a marvel he's still a geocacher. It's a marvel he didn't go postal! Somehow, he survived it. If it was as bad as it sounds like it must have been to him, there's this thing we have called taxis - that will come and pick you up wherever you are and take you where you want to be. We have them, even down here in the south. If I found myself stuck spending 12 hours hunting film cans in bushes in St Louis, I'd be bailing to a cab before too long. I see Myotis is going to edit his cache page. I guess this is a good thing - I believe that he didn't intentionally mean to slam Nashville cachers in general, but he did. It's easy to not see things from all possible sides when writing cache pages, and unfortunately this one went a bit overboard, but hopefully editing it will make it the "bit of lighthearted poking of fun" that was originally intended. Personally I don't mind lame micros. I'm not a power cacher like some others, and have a career and family to take up most of my time. So being able to find a cache or 2 whilst on the drive to work or whatever is how most of my caching gets done, and often a lame micro is all that will fit in the time slots I have. Here's a list of the best in Nashville that was prepared just before Geowoodstock. There are a lot of other good ones also.
  3. - Could be. I've probably been over agitated by this, so I'm going to drop it. It's a shame, and that's that. Bottom line for me - the guys a mean man, and a bad sport. But there's a place for these kinds of people in geocaching. Doesn't mean I have to like them. It's too bad that people feel the need to make generalizations about Nashville caches. I hope I can rise above this in the future. Thanks for your opinions.
  4. Bad attitude? Take a look at this cache. It seems really wrong to me for some reason. The placer, myotis, has mentioned that he's just poking fun, but he seems awfully serious about it. It seems in very poor taste to me. Granted, he's got a point - there ARE too many lame micros here. But is it so bad that he has to make fun of ALL the caches and cachers in Nashville? Or am I being overly sensitive?
  5. What does the "or risk" part mean? Someone asked before, and got no response. I'm just curious.
  6. The one I like best is the first finders of this one - GCJFNQ
  7. I've got a lot of ftf's, but my real record is for 1st dnf's of caches. Someday I'm going to have to start counting this stuff....
  8. Oooooo.... that's a good one. Thanks 2qwerqE! Edit: Weird that when you click on your state, and the list of caches comes up, it doesn't tell you how far away the cache is from you. - P That's the way to go. Bookmark that page, or add it to your favorites, or even make it your homepage for your browser. About the distance thing - after you look at these things for a while, you'll recognize who's hiding caches in your areea, and who isn't. After that, it's just a quick matter of clicking on the ones you don't recognize.
  9. Are you sure you're talking about cachemate, the palm app? There's no such column in my version...
  10. I'm extremely allergic to PI. If I realize I've been in it soon enough, alcohol wipes can help. I start breaking out within an hour, and not much helps after that except zanfel, which is a truly miraculous product for the extremely allergic person like myself.
  11. Here in the Nashville, TN area, JoGPS is the best.
  12. Get the kind of sheets they sell at home depot for covering vents. They're a little thicker. And you should really use stick on letters or numbers (like for a mailbox) - they give the thing a little more rigidity, which is important - the average stuff they sell in office supply stores doesn't survive climatic changes well. This is from experience, folks.
  13. Meridian has a better antenna, works better under tree cover. Garmin has better screen, readable in adverse conditions. Garmin is noticeably faster in operation than meridian, at least when you have a ton of waypoints loaded into either. Does the meridian package come with maps? You need to pay extra for map disks with garmin, I assume it's the same with magellan - I don't have the auto routing package for mine. Meridian has expandable memory - although the amount that's in the garmin may be enough for most cachers. I have both a Garmin 60c and a Magellan meridian yellow. I'm not well experienced with the color meridian, although I've held them - if they've speeded up the processor it might be a close call, but using my meridian with 500 waypoints loaded is painful after the speed of the 60c. Tough choice!
  14. Forgive my ignorance. So where IS the cache????? Unless I'm mistaken, which I often am, it's a magnetic sheet cache - remove the sheet, and there's a log stickered onto the back. At least that's how they're done around here. This is also a cool way to do multis...
  15. Yes. There are a bunch like this in Nashville - several of us have copied the original one that popped up here about a year ago.
  16. Not quite, but if you went downtown on the 4th I was on stage playing the cello for the vast throngs, backing up Sara Evans, The Oak Ridge Boys, etc. Does that count? And there were at least 4 caches within sight lines of where I was sitting onstage. The event on the 3rd was great - I wasn't there for the whole time, but still met quite a few of the folks there. And I'm getting tons of emails from gc about folks who found my caches over the weekend - sorry they're so easy folks!
  17. I lurk. Sort of. Just started reading here a few days ago, have only perused a few threads. Saw that someone or several someones were down on my hometown in various ways. Oh well.
