  1. Okay, I looked that up (ciste) and the relevant definition was from Scots Gaelic, meaning box or coffin. Is there another game besides letterboxing and geocaching that a ciste fits into, or was this some kind of memorial to someone?
  2. But then McGee would just use his laptop and gps dongle.
  3. Yeah, I would really like to know what connectors or sockets or sensors or antennae (other than the GPS) are inside that thing.
  4. There's a new gadget out there, that might be great for beginning geocachers. Found out about this thing via navigadget. The Apisphere Geomate, Jr. It's $70 and comes preloaded with 250,000 of the easiest Traditional caches in the United States. Apisphere product page here. REI page where you can buy it here.
  5. Suggestion regarding the new GPS Devices Pages. First of all, let me say that I like this, it's a great idea. But I think you should have this same functionality across all three Groundspeak games. And that makes me think that maybe you should have a combined review setup hosted from Groundspeak.com instead of geocaching.com. Perhaps the Groundspeak.com version could be a consolidated set of reviews listing comments from players of each game in one list.... let's call it gpsdevices.Groundspeak.com. Then gpsdevices.geocaching.com would only show reviews related specifically to using the device while geocaching. And gpsdevices.Waymarking.com would do the same for Waymarking. And gpsdevices.Wherigo.com would tell us first and foremost if the player is known to work, and then have reviews about how well. And there ought to be a way to link two devices together if that's how they're used. The PDA would need to be entered as a device and the gps receiver addon would need to be added as another device, but being able to have a pulldown to choose the connection would be great! I posted this in the geocaching forum because that's where the current GPS Devices pages are hosted. Thanks for reading!
  6. Sure! Sometimes they change their minds about letting the posting thread continue...and they close the thread! Sorry. had to say it.
  7. Welcome to the hobby. You'll love the 60Cx. I recommend it*. When you can, also get a 2GB microSD card** and a copy of City Navigator. You can get the entire US on it (I did) and the thing will route you places. And reroute you if necessary. RAM Mounts are nice too, if you decide you need to mount it on something. *I have one. Many people swear by the 60CSx but after looking at a friend's I opted not to get the S. Also it runs on AA batteries. Nothing custom. Easy to replace. Someone higher in the thread mentioned a 76Cx. That device is essentially the same thing as the 60Cx. In fact, if you look for refurbished units, the 76Cx is a tad less money than the 60Cx and the 76Cx floats. **You don't have to buy your microSD card from Garmin. You don't have to buy the Garmin branded one. Mine's 'made by' Corsair.
  8. FYI: In iTunes, if you go to Applications, and right-click an app (I have a two button trackball on my Mac) you can "view folder" or something--go to the folder where the app files are. Having that, you can copy them off to back them up. This is a way to store old versions or, if you feel you need to delete one and leave it off for a while, you have a way to put it back. You can just drag it from your backup folder into iTunes, then sync.
  9. No, this app doesn't load and/or store PQ's. It's pretty much a front-end for the website. As that it works pretty well. But this particular app doesn't replace a PDA.
  10. I don't work for geeks.com or anything. I just wanted to let everyone know that they have the Mio Digiwalker 168 Xscale 300MHz 64MB 32MB 3.5" Touchscreen Pocket PC Windows Mobile 2003 w/Integrated GPS for $79.95, plus shipping. Here's the link. I -think- this is one of the verified platforms, right?
  11. Thanks! Keep the feedback coming. It will be in active development for some time (though I hear that the lead time for upgrades can be a couple of weeks *after* we submit changes. Yeah, it's the same lag as publishing, isn't it? I've noticed that lots of apps edit their blurb pages to say what the new features are that will appear as soon as Apple publishes...
  12. I'm thinking it got rejected for some reason and now GSP is trying to fix it. -or- Maybe the Apple employee responsible for approving it is too busy using it to find caches....
  13. I notice that the announcement of the app on the geocaching.com homepage no longer links to this forum topic. It has its own page.
  14. Sounds cool... I haven't been able to find the button yet, though. Huh? Though it is interesting to show which caches are nearest to hotels... Yeah, I can't find them either. But I did notice the vcal and google calendar buttons on event cache pages. I'd never even noticed THOSE.
  15. Please don't let that dissuade you from the hobby. Meanwhile... *checks* 14:24 CDT and the app is not there. *sigh*
  16. I just saw that Mozilla is putting a location based browser plugin called 'Geode' into their "Mozilla Labs" and I fear for Geode's (the iPhone app) name... Whoops, I slipped off topic.
  17. All snarkiness aside, we have a team actively working on the next generation of Wherigo. It will be a lot more flexible and will become the platform for our mobile strategy. So there'll be a Wherigo player for the iPhone? And there'll be a Waymarking tool similar to the geocaching that you mention in this thread? Please?
  18. According to the FAQ: Is there a Windows version of the Uploader? No. FileMagnet is currently Mac only, and requires OS X 10.4 Tiger or higher. We are researching the development of a Windows version of the Uploader.
  19. The two links give me 404 errors (Not Found). Well, I was looking for a way to fix the original posts but failed, so here are the links: http://picasaweb.google.com/mcwtlg/Memorab...492445463292082 http://picasaweb.google.com/mcwtlg/Memorab...492448266491346 Sorry about the broken links. Yikes! Hey, thanks for providing the links.
  20. Your phone may have a recorder in it. Dig around in the menus. You might be surprised. My RAZR (basic RAZR, not the music playing kind) has one.
  21. Yeah, will there be a Wherigo player, huh, huh???
  22. Dante: And this one is not even suppose to BE here!
  23. Looking West over U.S. General Land Office Survey - ASA 1593 - Tombstone, AZ The mark is on top of the little white post in the lower center of the photograph. More info can be found here: WM1Y4P
