  2. recieved this email today after an email to garmin international after my last post...I'm keeping my fingers crossed..... Thank you for contacting Garmin International, as it stands right now, it appears that this will be handled by a software update. When this update is released, it will be downloadable from our web site under Software Updates and then the Rino 120. If you have further questions, please feel free to contact me! Best Regards, ......Gg
  3. I called the garmin service depot in quebec (naviclub@naviclub.com)last week to ask about gmrs upgrade for rino120 and was told there will be no software updates for canadian models...I was told if you want it ,you will need to buy a new unit...due to language diff I didnt get an opportunity to ask if i could send old unit back to get it refurbished with new radio.....Gg
  4. does this include rino 120 versions 3.50 or just 5.10 models ...if both plz post your link.....Gg
  5. I hope they arent dissapointed when they find their can in a ditch beside the highway...Gg
  6. yes TIREDIRON those gates...last time I was there you could 4x4 and park ontop of the cache if you wished.(2w driv within 80 m).unless you follow eroyds footsteps then thats a whole differant story..as for the gates being opened now all I can say is not a chance.. seems they had a small fire within 500m of that cache on the long wknd,choppers put it out with the MARS idling on the lake... thursday @ 2:30 pm crews where sent home due to it being to hot... LOOKS like its going to be an early fire season up there this year.. so a reminder to all if you want our remote access to become more curbed lets try and BECAREFULL OUT THERE.. As for the Mount Empress cache ZZ the quickest way in is from what the locals call Highways rd near the Potholes park gate (Harrison trail).. And for those who dont know the TLC has their eye now on the Deertrails property...finally rid of the leech who never repaid his 1.5 million to the province. With any luck the province will ante up with the distric of Sooke to expand the existing park,though not to likley( I think the amount of annual deaths/injurys liability maybe the problem for that to happen)....Gg
  7. The second link which TIREDIRON spoke of is now behind locked gates..I do agree with him on the other link (well worth the medium hike up)as well as Cachewidows link...BUT it maybe time to BLOW my own horn here... GC9C66 is where I would head for a complete overview of the Southern end of Vancouver Island...If you require a guidance for this cache email me .......Gg

    A Cold Gps

    I was in the Cariboo during the 1st week of Nov/03...temp was steady -20c at nite and -15c during the day. ..both my lowrance and rhino 120 did not have a screen display due to the LCD being frozen. .1/2 hr in the house and they worked fine. .If I was going to cache in temps of the -20c and colder I would get an addon antenna for my gm100 and leave it in an inside pocket.. BTW I also forgot my laptop in the car overnite and it took about 2.5 hrs to warm up enough to boot again.. .specs in rhino user guide states ...temp range -15c- 70c..5f-158f.....Gg
  14. I think it would be this cache......after working the cord's out..then arriving at the scene and digging after lowrance went to 1ft.....Gg http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...5-C6F43DF0CE84}

    WAAS in Canada

    In order to recieve differential gps signals you are required to have a DGPS Radio beacon receiver and seperatate loran-C (or equivilant) antenna.TWR has been experimenting with this setup for several months but it appears limited to vehicle use,due to the nessasary ground plane requirement of the said antenna.The transmitted beacon is an approx 20m~ long wave.however 10km +\- of Richmond a smaller antenna may suffice..I believe while testing mobile our best hdop was in the order of .92m. using a CSI ABX-1 DGPS beacon reciever locked onto Amphtrite Pt.....Gg
  21. I think the saying goes....Hide It and they will come....as for the prize or 1st finder prize I think that is the location and the bragging rights which you recieve for the completion of the cache..... as for plantman#3 when you get close to the rope you may see a lost can of coolant which leaped from my pocket and slid into the lower depths , shortly after the bridge was erected....well before I knew of geocaching........Gg
  22. Very nice cache Advance......Gg
