  1. Someone found it today - made my day. They had a little barrier to deal with though..ha...poor souls. Thanks all!
  2. Ha...thanks for the continued motivation! And as for that one near-by in Alice Lake - I just haven't made it (hmm...the excuse no long rings true).
  3. I set this hide up a couple months ago: Dreams, Wisdom, and Creativity. Thus far, however nobody has visited it (no logs whatsoever). Any suggestions for better ways to describe it etc? It's less than 75km from Vancouver in a beautiful area filled with campers all summer... Thanks for any tips!
  4. Thanks everyone...makes sense. At least I wasn't doing what those Brits did and driving into lakes... I did get frustrated as it kept telling me to take exits off the freeway that didn't exist...
  5. While (currently) driving through the Okanagan (BC), I've noticed that Garmin's Canadian maps are somewhat troubled, at least around Kamloops. I was finding roads that aren't on the map, and roads on the map that don't actually exist. I'm not sure if this is due to changes in the infrastructure since the data was originally collected. Is there a source to check how old data in selected areas are? I also noticed "mispositioning" of selected roads over the past while in smaller communities. I'm fairly certain this is the map data, rather than the gps readings as the gps readings match google-earth maps, as well as a secondary gps. I'm just trying to figure out what type of errors to select; what to do when you find errors; and how to predict errors.
  6. I'd never been to this area before...strange in that it's only ~80km from where I live. For those trying to find it - the key is to go left when you hit the Alice Lake turnoff, rather than right into Alice lake. There a number of camping spots along the river/creek some for larger groups, others for small ones. This is a spot we found while exploring.
  7. And it's approved...my first cache (I recognize it's exciting for nobody other than me). Now I am eager to see someone find it: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...af-18585d1c8646 Actually wonderful camping near it (and at it if you have a smaller tent)...
  8. Thanks for the info! I guess I can move away from my computer for a little while
  9. I finally hid my first geocache. I'm just curious as to the average length of time it takes to get approved. I recognize vollunteers do the work, so I'm not too worried, but would just like an approximation. It's been ~5 days now. If any of you can shed some light, I'd appreciate it. thansk! David
  10. Hi all... If any of you happen to stumble across a GPSMap 60CSx in the next little while (SN74924133) that's preloaded with maps and all the caches in Southern Vancouver Island (up to Nanaimo area), I have all the packaging, wires, instructions etc for it The bastards broke into my car on the first day of my trip...ah well...the rest of the trip worked out well, but I felt silly carying around ammo cans, and trinkets, and whatnot without being able to do anything with them... Next time.... Thank god my deductable is low...
  11. OK, I've been able to answer a few of my own questions... 1. To delete all waypoints, from Trip ocmputer scren, hit menu and select reset - you can choose what to clear/delete/reset. 2. To change maps: From the Map page, press MENU » 'Setup Map' » ENTR. One of maps you've loaded will be listed. Press MENU again, then » 'Hide City Select North A' » ENTR. You can use this procedure to hide or show any map (including the base map) that is loaded. If you have firmware 3.5 or higher, you can hide or show any set of maps. This area is discussed in the forums here and in the few following posts. (Please excuse the rant). 3. To hard reset: Hold ENTR and PAGE while powering up to master reset the unit. Details on doing a hard reset can be found in this post. Now why couldn't I notice this stuff in the manual (is it even there?)
  12. I have a few questions about the 60CSx. Thus far it's been great, but there are a few things I've not figured out how to do yet: 1) Delete all waypoints (I can do it one by one, but want to do en mass) 2) Switch maps (I have portions of the topo and the city loaded on the card) 3) Hard reset the machine to clear everything Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! David
  13. I'm part of a big social group here in town and while a few of us are just now getting into geocaching, others are interested in trying it. We're considering doing a mini-scavenger hunt one day to have fun, but not everyone has/can borrow a gps.. Just checking into things so I know options. Thanks! David
  14. Thanks for making this clear...now I just wish my GPS would arrive so I can start hunting more!
  15. I'm missing the resources that talk about how you name a new cache. Is the name created for you when you reigster it here? So much to learn and understand...
  16. First place I tried. Alas they don't rent them. Thanks for the suggestion though! Dave
  17. Are there any Vancouver BC locations that you can suggest that rent GPS units? Geko 101/201 level is fine - the key is reasonable price. Any suggestions? Thanks! David
  18. I've got those ones...I guess I'm looking for things to put in the caches as much as anything. Archie McPhee Toys, Gifts, and Novelties is a US based place shop along the lines I'm looking for...
  19. Can any of you help out with Canadian sources for geocaching swag, novelty items, containers, etc.? Wholesale is nice, and web based is ideal. I'm not talking about places that will ship into Canada, but places that are actually located in Canada. I'm in Vancouver, BC if you can be that specific! Thanks!
  20. While I've got GPX files and I've got PRC files I'd still prefer another route. Is there a way to get the GPX files WITH the user notes and clue (scrambled or not). The PRC files have all that in them and if I could convert them to xml, or anythign readable anywhere else I'd be happy...but I've yet to find a conversion program. Any suggestions?
