Sorry I haven't posted this sooner. My only excuse is that I've been busier than a cat covering s**t on a marble floor. We've begun a Waymarking group called show me mo. The goal is to set up a category of waymarks that highlight what's cool about Missouri. At least that's how I see it. If anyone wants to join and be a contributing member, just let me know. Missouri has a lot of interesting places that would make good virtual caches. I was thinking that we could start a series of virtual caches called Show Me Mo. Each cache would be owned by whoever got the coordinates and any permissions that might be needed. They could range from the worlds largest fork in Springfield, (I got dibs on that one.) to historical markers, buildings, etc. Any interesting location. the rules I've come up with so far are. 1. It must be virtual. 2. It must be interesting. 3. It must be family safe/friendly. (no strip clubs in St. Louis guys.) 4. There must be some sort of email proof required, such as some words off of a sign, color of a brick, whatever. It just has to be proven that someone was there. 5. So how long do you wait before you send an email to someone. Hope I didn't jump the gun today, my tb has only been in someone's hands for about a month now... (I've held them as long as a week, but just because I was moving and wanted to move it to my new area.) A thought just occurred to me. What if my travel bug has been kidnapped by a psycopath? another thought, what if the last person to pick it up was abducted by aliens? Or worse yet, got married to someone who throws out all their toys? I can't take this stress, I have to go check every cache within a thousand miles and see if I can find it. Think they'll give me time off with pay to do that? sigh

This coin won't be able to have color on the toads. Shading is in fact not an option by the minters. In order to get the shading, all I can think of is to use silkscreening. That would be a flat coin. Wanted this one to have some shape. Future designs may in fact include the toads with color. we'll have to see what can be done. thanks for your comments. I'm looking at perhaps mid may for production, maybe sooner depending on how our move to Missouri goes.

Latest images, first shot at die art, there will be a few changes. Just wanted to update everyone. I've chosen Hogwild coins to be my supplier. And I'm glad I did. Talk about patience, they've been really patient with me and all my changes. A decent group for all of you thinking about getting coins minted, they're really helpful and will answer your questions with honesty. I won't start a list until I get samples...but it's getting closer to being finished. Haven't decided on size yet. Finishes I'm looking at is antique gold, antique copper, antique silver, bronze, copper, or gold. I like it. What do YOU think so far?

Familial obligations require me to move out of the area. Sunset Lake Cache is going to be orphaned on Monday, April 16th. It hasn't been out long and I never even got to update the cache itself. Okay, possibly the final design. Font is bookman old style at largest size outer ring can take without distorting the coin. compass rose is 2 D, and I am trying to get it as a 2 level design. Toad's are 3 D. added pink to feminize the girl toad. added some warts cause a toad ain't a toad without warts I've opted for larger toads instead of cutout. Need to have some more input. Is this better, worse, no change from original design? May go to 1 5/8 instead of 1 1/2.

Okay, I've already dealt with the frawg thing as far as what's wrong with a hussy toad? It's a family oriented endeavor:)

I'm getting closer to the end design, but it's not quite right yet. Also can't seem to get everything I want from the minters. They just can't do what they just can't do. I'm looking into making the compass rose spikes 2 tiered. (they say they can't color 3d after all.) The boy toad will be the new size if it can. The girl toad will be larger as well. (great ideas came to me from this forum, thank you.) I'm am strongly considering having the coin made as a cutout and would like some input into that idea. (cutout around the compass rose spikes. still a round coin.) Motherinlaw has spoken. She says I have to do something to feminize the female toad so everybody will know she's a girl. I think I agree. Mominlaw says don't make her a frilly girl, just make sure everybody knows she's a girl. And she hated the lipstick:) said it made her look like a hussy. Maybe a bonnet? if so, what color? Yeah, I think I'll save her for another coin. I also think I'll wait for die artwork to come back before I look at any changes. I only hope my specs can be incorporated. Waiting with baited breath. I've always hated it when you eat worms.

First draft with larger toad and removed the directional letters. I have a question about fonts as well, are different fonts a possibility or are you stuck with whatever?

I love getting beat up when it's like that. Thanks, and even if I don't use the ideas this time, I most definately plan on using at least most of them at some time or other. My husband is kinda crafty, I suppose he could get out some wood and some saw things and cut out a tree. I need the brains of an experienced designer. I've been kicking around some ideas for a series of coins. The first of these includes a compass rose design that is 3D and enameled. One of the minters I'm trying to decide on says it's not possible. But I seem to remember someplace I read that it was possible, but for the most part not done because color detracts from the look. Is it possible and perhaps the minter in question doesn't have the ability? Or is it in fact impossible and needs me to go back to the drawing board? thanks for your time Herb

I think there should be a geoworld event with a cool name held in a different place every year. We could organize a world congress to grant the "license" to hold the event every year. There could be requirements for the location, such as number of existing caches within a 10 mile radius. Government approval from those countries that are really wound up tightly. A huge disclaimer statement that says if you go to the event, you're doing so with the acceptance that the risk is entirely yours. Let's see what else? Hotels willing to hold rooms and cut us some slack on the price. Event list, cache list, dates, sponsors letters... How much stuff goes into the planning of this kind of thing anyway? I say, first we come up with the coolest name. My entry for a name is geowayuat! And my vote for first location is Amsterdam:)

Reading your post has convinced me. I've wanted to repair caches a couple of times, but thought perhaps the owners would see it as meddling. I'm going to start carrying spare parts around in my backpack and when I come upon one that needs work, I'm gonna fix it. Thanks for teaching this 51 year old a lesson.

Well, I've had this Legend for a week. Not sure how much you want to spend on stuff, but I went ahead and picked up the Garmin Mapsource CD's for the US. Easiest thing in the world to pull the waypoints into the map then dump em into the device. I like doing it that way just because I can get a better idea of where I want to go for the day and just add caches in that area... just my nickel and i'm the newest guy on the block...

My first was a DNF for a couple of days till i figured out how to use my garmin. If you don't find it the first time, go back another day and try again. I agree, easy can be boring.
