  1. Sorry if this is a repost but with technology changing I decided to post it anyway. My sister is looking for the best GPS for use in a car and for geocaching. She has been using an old Geko of mine and is tired of manually entering coordinates (so it needs a USB connection) and my brother-in-law wants one that talks to him in the car (which leaves out my favorite, the 60Cx because it only beeps at turns instead of talking). Any ideas are appreciated.
  2. I haven't been involved in this discussion, but now that you have purchased I have one comment to add. Get a screen protector for your 60 before you ever leave the house. I broke down and bought a 60cx last summer and my first month out I scratched its face. Every time I look at it I want to kick myself for not protecting the screen after spending that much for it. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine.
  3. Thanks for the suggestions. Since I'm familiar with EasyGPS, I'll try the ExpertGPS product and go from there. Again, thanks to all for the responses.
  4. I realize this isn't a geocache topic, but I'm hoping some of you have tried it. I have a Garmin 60cx and city select software. That means I can say take me to xxx address and the gps will lead me. I was wondering if there is trail software that will do the same kind of thing. For example. I know there is a way to start at the Pacaifc Crest Trail at Donner Pass, turn somewhere and end up at the Squaw Valley Lodge. Just wondering if there is trail software that works like road software and give me trail by trail directions. Thanks. If there is a better forum somewhere on the internet to post this, please let me know and I'll post it there.
  5. Have any of you found a good way to polish or buff out at least part of a scratch? Also even though it's a little late is there anything special I can use as a screen cover or should I just get a case for it. Thanks in advance. I need a lot of sad frogs for this one. My old Geko hasn't gotten scratched in years and I mess this one up the first week.
  6. I'm considering a 60Cx and have been trying to understand how you store sets of waypoints on the sd card then transfer them into memory, also if it is possible to transfer them back out of memory to the card. Can someone point me to a good tutorial? I currently use GSAK on the PC if that makes a difference. Thanks
  7. I'm not really worried about the cost that much (but I don't think it needs to cost as much as my laptop). I probably should have mentioned I've been using a Forerunner 101 (which is has almost the same features as the geko 101) and I am tired of manually entering coordiantes. Thanks for the advise.
  8. I'm sure this question has been asked ten thousand times, but I'm going to ask it again a little differently. I don't care about color displays. I don't care about mapping capability. I do care about battery life, accuracy and number of caches it can store. Now with that info, anyone want to tell me their choice for caching? Thanks.
  9. I just have a comment about batteries. My old Palm III used AAAs and my new Clie has an internal rechargable. I really miss the old AAAs because you could you use rechargables normally, but if you got out somewhere without a charger and needed batteries, you could find AAAs anywhere.
  10. I noticed a lot of caches in your area say approved by LFCUG, who are they and why do they approve caches? I'm moving into the area and i need to know if there are special rules to placing caches there. Thanks.
  11. Thanks, can anyone compare or contrast the Microsoft and Delorme packages? Is one or the other better for caching?
  12. As a new cacher, thought i'm add my few: Garmins Forerunner 101 Geko 201 and my new 60CSx
  13. My wife and I marathon and love the Forerunner 101. We picked the 101 over the 201 because the 101 uses AAA batteries so we can replace then during the runs if we need to. The 201 has a built in rechargable battery. It is much more accurate than a pedometer, for me at least. You can use it for limited geocaching. By that i mean you have to enter the locations manually. If we're going on a trail run in a new location, we will key in the caches new the trail. It seems to have the same processor/memory as the Geko 101. Feel free to email me if you have specific questions.
  14. I was thinking about getting a gps unit for my laptop to use while I'm driving to sites. Any opinions on which hardware/software works best? I know microsoft has the Streets and Trips one and Garmin has the GPS 18 but I'n not sure if either would work well for geocaching or if there is something better out there. Thanks
