  1. It depends on the type of multi. Some have a container with coords for the next stage. Some have a puzzle you have to solve or information you have to gather to figure out the coords for the next stage. You may be able to figure out which type you are looking at on the cache page. It depends on your GPSr! On mine, I push a button that says 'MARK'. It allows me to enter coords. I would read your instruction manual, or just fool around with it until you figure it out.
  2. There used to be a fake benchmark cache near me several years back. I remember the day that somebody posted a DNF on the cache, but stated in their log that they did, however, find the benchmark nearby. Oh, I can see this appearing in my neck of the woods! Hehehehe
  3. I found #9 on my living room floor this morning. I have no idea how it got there! I was working at GCF, at the MnGCA table. Perhaps it was hiding in my computer case, which my dog decided to eat? However it managed to get to my house, thank you! I recall seeing one of these on one of my brief forays away from the table, and admiring it.
  4. Looks like they are doing pretty well, Z. I'd of bid, but I have all of those already!
  5. Mine was a puzzle that I had searched for two other times with no luck, and several other more experienced cachers had also DNFd. So, we did a little happy dance! Of course it was dark, so no one saw us.
  6. There are a couple of earthcaches, a virtual at the International Wolf Center, and a web cam cache in downtown Ely.
  7. Double yikes! Stupid work computer.....
  8. That is my absolute FAVORITE kind of find, especially if one or more of the DNFers are friends! The opportunities for mocking are endless.
  9. I am not an expert in trackables, but I have never seen that kind of database. An individual's page would have that about their personal trackables, but that is about it.
  10. Given my caching name, and the fact that I can't find a trail to save my life, I think I would like one. Black nickel, please.
  11. If we are playing by 'WeekNIGHT' rules, no one says anything. They pretend to look for a while longer, then go stand off to the side and begin mocking those who are still looking. WeekNIGHT is a loosely organized, weekly caching get together, somewhere in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area. Really more of an excuse to get together than do any serious caching; we usually only grab 2 or 3 caches before we head off for adult beverages and food.
  12. In Washington, DC the streets are a neatly laid out grid of letters and numbers. The city was designed by French-born architect, artist and civil engineer Pierre L'Enfant. Rumor has it, the reason there is no 'J' street, is because of a feud between L'Enfant and the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, John Jay. True, or false? False. The real reason is, in 18th Century English, the letters I and J were almost indistinguishable from each other, and still largely interchangeable. Having both an 'I' street, and a 'J' street would be confusing and redundant.
  13. I saw the 'oil' version at the bonfire event, very nice!
  14. Obviously the FTFs are as important to you as they are to these 'hourders' that you criticize, they are just willing to go the extra mile (or 5) to get them.
  15. We are truly blessed here in Minnesota. We rarely have to wait hours for Surfer Joe to publish a cache. When he does, there is a FTF party, if the cache in anywhere in the metro area. Usually it is the same people who show up, either because they have flexible schedules, or because they get done about the time he starts publishing the new caches. While I almost never am FTF, I have enjoyed one or two of the parties. The very best kind include the CO standing nearby, heckling those hunting in vain! The only instance I have seen of someone waiting to allow another to be FTF, is a cache dedicated to a particular cacher. We make those parties too. Everyone plays this game their own way. I don't have to like how you do it, you don't have to like how I do it. Everyone has different strengths and abilities. I am not going to be mad that someone climbed a tree that I can't climb to find a cache, why would I be mad that they got up at 3am to find a cache?
  16. I tell anyone who looks interested, or who is trapped and has to listen to me. I finished my bachelor's degree last year, and had to do several papers/presentations. One paper I did was a proposal to our state parks, reasons why they should allow caching. One presentation I did was a geocaching 101, with a map of the school and all the caches that surround it. Not sure I made any converts, but I got A's on both of them!
  17. 1. Participating (email sent): Yes, 28 September, 2010 2. Name Received: 3. Outgoing mission mailed: 4. Incoming mission received: I can't wait, this sounds like so much fun! I may have to start shopping now....
  18. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...6e-0c4f6f083ab7 Come join us for food, fellowship, and of course, caching! You do not have to be a MnGCA member to attend.
  19. [joke] Jeez, there goes the neighborhood! [/joke]
  20. Since there are two of you, go for 'Watch for falling rocks' http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...46-6be4ad5ff500 Also, if you like virtuals, there are several available in Duluth. If you are going further north, Silver Island Treasure is a MUST DO! http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...8a-1b82a149a6e6 There is a lot of state park land up there, so if you want a nice walk, check some of those out. The leaves will have started to turn, so it will be beautiful.
  21. Argh! I wanted to stop by your table at GCF and take a gander at those, but we were so darn busy at our MnGCA table, I totally spaced it out. They look great!
  22. Check it out! http://mngca.org/node/520
  23. It turns out if I change my max zoom to .5 miles for map points, I can see the icons. Sweet! Thanks for the info.
