  1. Broadband - check Videocard made 4 years ago and can't run jack - check
  2. I don't know if it's already possible, or if it already has been suggested. BUt what about being able to select multiple caches and have them show on Google Maps with marks? Is this possible already, or is this something we can get?
  3. You forgot to add to your fantasy that you were going for a first to find, with a travel bug for the prize.
  4. As someone that is just now getting into the hiding aspect of things, I get frustrated at the way my caches have been treated. I hid one of mine in a wood den, covered in bark with the cache in a camo burlap bag. Almost without fail I find it out in the open, uncovered. The back is starting to get a couple holes and the string to close the bag is long gone (not even in the area, it's like someone took it). It's not like this happened one either, every cache maintence is like this. One of my caches, it wasn't even hidden near where they found it. How does that work? "I found it over here, but what the heck, lets just up and put it wherever!". People sometimes.
  5. In regards to the original topic, what about people that just can't afford to place caches? Sure, poorer people may be able to afford a few caches, but at 10% of a 1000 finds that's a 100 hides, and say at 10-20 bucks in decent swag a cache; that's 1,000 to 2,000 bucks total, unless my math fails me. If you don't have the money, you just don't have the money. Plus for every cacher that has too few finds, there are many cachers that have too many. I for one, now that I've gotten into the hiding aspect, have thought on more then one occasion of ditching the finding and sticking purely to hiding!
  6. You really could have worded this MUCH better you know.
  7. What's up with that "Play Ball" bug? It was logged 18 times in one day, and traveled 9000 some miles. That's not possible. It doesn't say anything on the bug page about being a virtual bug. Am I missing something?
  8. This topic has come up before. I'll say it again, everyone likes something differant. Sure you may hate McToys or Golf balls, but for some, they would enjoy that more then almost anything else they would find in a cache. That is why I don't worry too much about what I leave. As long as it's something decent, someone will want it eventually. I do try to leave something that I think the very next person would want, which usually they do take it. But, we don't buy anything to leave in caches, we just get rid of old junk around the house. After all, we wanted the stuff enough to buy it once, someone will surely want it enough to take it for free! To sum it up, one cachers trash is anothers treasure.
  9. and government is complaining that geocaching is harmful to parks?
  10. I'm no electronics expert, but maybe if you had them run during specific times? If they run an hour a day, they will last 24 times longer.
  11. Well if you are trying to find where a cache is on the moon, if GPS isn't available yet, you can use Google: Moon and navigate your way around using satalitte photos. Then you just have to figure out if it's by this crater or the other one. And don't forget to zoom to the closest view possible. Google has discovered something that NASA missed somehow.
  12. Dangle something shiney? Pretend to throw a tennis ball? Sorry, I couldn't resist.
  13. The thing I think alot of cachers have to realize, is that any cache, or things made or placed in connection to a cache is temporary. Every cache, no matter what, will eventually get stolen or removed. I know that eliminate the sting of someone being such A-holes, but it helps I think. Instead of morning a lost cache, or in this case a statue, enjoy it while it lasts, that's what this game is about. I've placed my caches, and I know they will be lost eventually, but already I've enjoyed them and they have been well worth the effort, for me and for others as well. You said other cachers have enjoyed the statue too, so you really have no reason to mourn. I would suggest just make another one (if possible) for the cachers to come to enjoy it, as you did and the cachers before them did. It also helps if you realize that people are idiots. Then you aren't let down when someone does something completely stupid.
  14. I don't know what you havbe planned already, but here is my two cents. The cache page would lay out the evidence, the situation and give clues, or leads. Which they would follow, one lead or another. For instance, the clue could lead to a statue of a person, and on the sign near are numbers, which can be made into coordinates, which is where the cache is, which is the same as finding "murderer" Take from it what you will.
  15. That is true, but I wasn't directing my rant to you. It was just generally speaking. If it came across as directed towards you, I am sorry.
  16. But the log is very clear that he didn't actually find it. If you are planning on a hundred mile trip just because of a smiley face, but not actually read the log, I really don't feel sorry for you. All the DNF's should be enough to ward you off. If someone doesn't have the intelligence to tell that cache isn't there, I really don't feel sorry for them.
  17. The thing is though, that logger (nice pun on the crap analogy earlier, huh?) is playing his own game. Geocaching is an individual game. He plays by himself, by his own rules (to a degree). If he feels justified in logging a find, that's his deal, not ours. If he goes and plays Solitaire, and cheats, that's his business, not ours. I disagree with him doing that, and I would never do so. One cache I went for was encased in an inch of ice between the roots of a tree and in a hole, and I logged it as a DNF. That's my game, he's playing his. We have no right to judge or look down on him (not that I'm saying we are in particular here, but I have seen it elsewhere at the least). No offense to the original poster (his thread is much nicer then others I've seen), but I get sick of these threads every week or everyday like this. And some are full of Fire and Brimstone over what they post about. To the effect of: This is totally wrong, we should make up a rule against this, this person is bad, etc. When will people get it? It's just a game, and if someone plays it differant then you, that's ok, it doesn't hurt you, your enjoyment, or your numbers. One guy logged an event cache 70 (I'm guessing) times, assumingly because he found 70 caches there, what's wrong with that? Does it really matter that much to people that we need to start and keep a thread going for 100 some posts? Bottom Line: Enjoy your game, and let others enjoy theirs no matter how they play it. Rant Over, you've been a marvelous audience.
  18. The majority of people aren't malicious. They wouldn't trash a cache unless reacting to something; like the cache owner making them mad. But also, you are missing the other side of the equation. Sure the next person maybe malious (not likely, but possible), but the next person might also be the next great cache hider. That is far more likely then them being a mean jerk. This isn't a club. GC.com is open for all to see. I think excluding everyone until they prove themselves just isn't smart. Share geocaching, everyone contributes. New blood means new ideas, new caches, new local clubs, new events, etc. Sure there is risk, but so much can be gained from so little risk.
  19. I used a couple good basecoat of a dark brown, using Krylon's Fusion spraypaint. And that worked great, no flaking or nothing. I think how those types of paint work is they have a chemical in them already that eats away some of the plastic to create a more adhesive friendly surface. Once you basecoat it with a plastic spraypaint, anything you put on over it will stick. I used regular spraypaint with no problems. No sanding, no mess, and it's held up fine so far.
  20. My two cents: I think this is an amazingly creative and fun idea for a cache. I hate to see it killed. There are issues that were raised, which may make it impracticle, but it's still a great idea for a cache and should be allowed to stay. I don't understand, nor agree, with the ban on moving caches, especially when the first leg is permanent.
  21. While I won't ever critisize someone for showing concern or caring, I don't agree. Anyone seriously looking to hit targets like that will already have the information and will get it freely available in so many ways that are easier then a geocache page.
  22. I just got to say, since I started checking out the GC.com forums this thread has been going. I have never seen so much said about peeing in my life. I like you people.
  23. What I do is use a 10 or a 5 dollar bill, and register it at "www.whereswilly.com" or "www.wheresgeorge.com". They get money, better then a gift card, and you get a kind of travel bug.
