  1. I am amazed at everyone's continued generosity - we have so far raised about £200 including Gift Aid!
  2. Like me then I got flamed on here once because I dont own a car! Didnt take it personally though.... I still attend events when I can and have met some wonderfull people. One thing that can be said about the forum is that it is nice to put names to faces. And how quiet some people are in the flesh outside the Forum/chat room. I havent been able to cache for a month now as I'm running out of caches to find in a sparse cache area so this forum is keeping me from going nuts (wibble wibble petang!) You'll have to go out and place some instead then! Much respect to you for not owning a car!!
  3. I guess I'm lucky living in Edinburgh, a city that has so many parks (including a huge hilly park right in the city centre), hills and great areas all around that the cache placers around here always place well thought-out, good-quality caches. I'm not so sure "micro-spew" is such a problem in the UK as in the US, but Edinburgh is certainly a diamond in the rough. If I lived in a city where micros were the norm then I don't think I would have gotten into the sport with as much enthusiasm as I have.
  4. Any cache placer would rather you used the hint rather than not find the cache. If they didn't want you to use the hint they wouldn't add one to their cache page.
  5. There is nothing stupid about logging a DNF. In addition, emailing the owner about a DNF isn't that good IMHO as it doesn't alert other cachers who may head out to find it before the owner has a chance to check.
  6. I should be able to make it (this isn't just a crafy bump - honest! ) If anyone should wish to contribute to the charity fundraising for Billy Twigger but can't make the event, you can donate at www.justgiving.com/hogmanay_hangout or click on my sig below!
  7. Well, yes, this is the type I was thinking of too!
  8. If I knew I had a right to be there then I would continue and explain to her that I had a right to be there. If I wasn't sure, I'd leave it and email the cache owner for clarification.
  9. Just curious. Do they have ground stations outside the US sending correction data? If not, wouldn't you be correcting in Japan for atmospheric differences in the US? In Europe (well the UK at least I assume it's the same for other countries) we have EGNOS.
  10. Surely all caches are pretty useless - doesn't make it less fun finding them! Whether they are enjoyable or not though is a different matter, and that's surely subjective.
  11. Shame there's not a Wilkinson's around here! I have fond memories of dragging around that shop with my mum as a kid. I'm still burning through a load I got from Poundstretchers (or "In Home" or whatever it's called now).
  12. It might be a coin that's not trackable on GC.com but is trackable somewhere else. We found a coin that was only trackable on gecoins.ca - is there another website with it - on a slip of paper perhaps?
  13. Assuming you know that the cache has a bug in it to start with!
  14. It's ok - I hope it just a test version and they're "working on it" rather than the final thing though. The boxes on the main tracking page seem to change size when you click on a link on the geocoin one (in Firefox). I'm also not that interested in what coins worldwide have been logged the most recently - is anyone? It would be more useful if just coin logs within a certain radius of your home coordinates were logged. Maybe eventually you'll be able to get coin notifications like there are new cache notifications!! I'd also like the google map a lot bigger and to be able to move around and show coins in different areas.
  15. I'd certainly be up for buying a calendar!
  16. Thanks to everyone who has so far donated money at www.justgiving.com/hogmanay_hangout, has donated geocoins etc to the event or is coming to the event itself - your donation is greatly appreciated no matter how big or small.
  17. Using Firefox v1, when I goto click on Geocoin home, the first time I click it just causes the three boxes to resize (the geocoin one gets smaller, the TB one gets bigger). I then have to click again to navigate. Not that I'm lazy (well not in this case anyway!), it just looks unprofessional.
  18. WOuld be useful when you click on a geocoin on the map if it gave you the name of the cache it was in as well.
  19. Why not make the wedding an event cache??
  20. also thanks to everyone who has donated money to Spinal Injuries Scotland - not too late to dnate if you haven't!
  21. Thanks very much for your generosity it is appreciated!
