I could be wrong, but in Japanese stuff I've always seen Manga written in katakana in japanese texts, but it's possible that that's because it's so young japanese can read it, given that the kanji are quite complex?

Note: Manga, even though it might look like it means something in Japanese, doesn't actually. This is shown by the fact that Manga is always written in katakana and there is no kanji combination for it, which there would be if it actually officially "meant" anything.
