  1. Having known Cats-Eyes a long time, I can second what has been said about the time and effort they put in maintaining their caches. As cache owners, they certainly take their responsibilities seriously. As for the 'certain other cachers' , does that mean that g**** are now active in this area as well?
  2. Not that anybody is probably interested, but the ukcachers web site was hacked into mid morning and all the files wiped (except one that they left, which has 'interesting' data in it). We are currently obtaining the ISP's access logs. Sorry to hear that. Explains why I couldn't get on the site. Please keep us informed of when it's online again. After studying the means of attack, it has been decided to close the ukCachers site for the time being. It is unlikely to reappear in the near future (if at all). I hope the perpetrator(s) of the attack is/are satisfied.

  4. If you know the co-ordinates are out, shouldn't you disable the cache until you can get accurate ones. At least that would save people wasting their time (and money) looking for it in the wrong location.
  5. I was beginning to think it was just me. Running IE8 (latest patches) on Windows-7 64 bit. Still haven't found out what's causing it, but I suspect it's cookie related (as mentioned previously). Interestingly, I get different problems at work on IE8 (32 Bit XP-Pro with SP3). There it works for a while, then claims the browser tab has got corrupted, and reloads the last page. Both at home and work Firefox runs OK. Most odd
  6. The information provided on that list is freely available to any geocachers who wants to browse around the regions, looking at disabled listings - It's not as though some 'secret information' has been divulged - It's simply been pulled together in a readily accessible format for anyone who's interested. Looking at some of those long disabled caches it's good to note that some cache owners have been proactive in keeping everyone informed regarding the status of the disabled cache by adding regular logs to keep geocachers and reviewers up to date. In doing this they're letting those interested know that the cache has not been forgotten and there's (usually) a reason for the long disablement. It's those cache owners who don't bother with this and then don't respond to the reviewer's warning note that end up with archived caches. MrsB If the person who is the site owner has an issue with any of the listed caches, the correct method would be to contact the reviewers or Groundspeak in private. Personally I have the ability to spot disabled caches, and I'm sure everyone has this ability, as it is a feature of the GC website; this list does not prevent that happening, or make it easier to undertake, it is someone's pet hate, which they want to embarrass or humiliate others with. It is worth noting that the site in question is run with the approval and knowledge of Groundspeak, who provide the site with the full UK data on a regular basis.
  7. Perhaps multiple consequtive (3?) DNF's should send an e-mail to the CO/Reviewer that something is not quite right with the cache. Just my 2p worth.
  8. Me too please! I agree. "Mark for review" seems a sensible (and non-confrontational) alternative
  9. But what level would you set the fees at, and in what currency? The end result may be to drive people to the other cache listing sites.
  10. Well done drsolly - he took some catching. BUT - Come on Stevo. You can't give up now. The whole of the East Midlands is depending on you.
  11. Millets in Buxton (Derbyshire) have half a dozen left in various designs.
  12. How's this for a wierd policy. I dropped into Millets in Derby today and asked if they had any coins in, as they had said last week they were expecting some in Wednesday this week; and got told that as I already had been given one, I couldn't have another, as the store manager had now decided it was one per person. Fair enough I thought. I then asked if the delivery had arrived, and was told that it hadn't and they had now been told they had all been sent out to the shops and no more were being shipped. So why say I couldn't have one, if they didn't have any anyway?
  13. Derby Millets had a new batch in today. Limiting to one per person - which is a good thing. Don't know how long they'll last.
  14. Just been into Derby. Out of stock at both Millets and Blacks - evidently they both ran out yesterday afternoon.
  15. Amazing - as there aren't all that many cachers round here. Did they give you an idea of whether they were getting any more? I was surprised they had all gone (as was the shop manager - he thought there were some left, but the jiffy bag was empty!). Either a local cacher has a lot of coins, or they've gone to staff and friends, as has been suspected elsewhere The shop manager said they would not be getting any more. Yep, I was in Blacks on Saturday(30th Aug) and the guy told me they'd had one lot of Big Bens and hadn't had anymore, i told him there was 5 different ones and asked if they would be gettting any more and he basically said he had no idea!! Any way what you doing going to a Lincoln shop if you live in Derby?? Not that it's relevant (bearing in mind how far others are travelling to get the coins), but I was over in the city visiting my family who still live there.
  16. Any news on if/when geocacheuk will be returning. I currently donate a PQ to the site - Is it still worth running it on a daily basis?
  17. They still had a couple left in Black's in Derby this afternoon. But there were none at Millets, and they weren't expecting any.

  19. Swap offer/request ============ I have an unactivated Big Ben coin from the first release that I would like to swap for either a Stonehenge or Angel of the North one. Please contact me through my geocaching profile if interested
  20. Been to Lincoln today. Millets haven't got any and have been told they aren't getting any - despite being on the list. Black's in Lincoln had none left - evidently they went fairly quickly.
  21. Went into Blacks in Derby at lunch today to see if the new batch of coins had arrived. Confusingly, I ended up speaking to two different staff members who had heard two different stories. Staff member one said they had been told that after the initial launch of the Big Ben coins, they would be getting a different coin batch every week untill all the sets had been released. However no more coins had arrived, and they didn't know of any shops who had had anything other than the Big Ben ones. Nor had they been given a delivery date for the next batch. Staff member two said the store manager had told them that different Blacks regions had already been issued with different sets of coins to be released at different times. The manager also claimed to have seen some at another store, but would not tell the staff member I was talking to, which coins and at which stores. The staff member concerned was surprised when I told them the Big Ben coins had been released in different regions of England outside the North region. If the staff at Blacks don't know, what hope is there for the rest of us . As an aside, the staff in Millet's in Derby know nothing about the promotion.
