  1. The first ones to place caches in an area can pick all the best places! Lucky you! I have to take into account the police on every corner and not to get them to think me/cachers are doing anything suspicious. Tomorrow I'm doing some research on locations. I brought like 20 containers in my bag LOL
  2. I just moved from the SF Bay Area to Brazil. In a city of 18 million people, there's only about 6 caches (within a 10 mile radius) Also with an urban setting, I'm thinking a lot about good places.
  3. Do radio and TV antenas interfer with your sat accuracy? (The station's, not your own)
  4. I manually panned and changed the location to the closest I could. It's now working. Now all I gotta do is choose which of the 10 caches in a 10 miles radius I want to do.
  5. Its still not going. The sats are moving but there are no bars. I have an Etrex Legend. Anything I can do to speed it up?
  6. I'm in the southern hemisphere and it's taking forever for the sats to pick up a signal. Like 45 mins or more. Should I be worried?
  7. I have 6 in Union City and 2 in Fremont that need to be adopted. If anyone wants to do it, please contact me. The 6 in UC is by the Decoto area. One in Gremont in by The Hub and the other is by the Alameda Creek off of Mission Blvd.
  8. Here's what I dont like. By archeiving a cache it makes room for other caches. If you dont move the cache someone could by another cache near the old site and confuse cachers. It messes up the .1 mile rule.
  9. I grabed a map of CA counties and filled them in in Photoshop.
  10. I like using the "Geocaching.com Google Map" link on the bottom of the cache pages. I type in a specific address.
  11. Is there a log template, because I've been making my own.
  12. Chesapeake Bay? No, it's a creek - GCZHPT (18 finds) It's a pretty easy cache and it's in a big container.
  13. I was once stopped by a park ranger in Ohio in about the same circumstances. The ranger allowed me to violate the law (go off trail) to show him where the cache was located. He then said it is illegal and I should notify the owner to remove it. I said I would do so and offered to remove it myself if it was a big issue. He said notifying the owner would be better. I posted SBA based at the park ranger's request and the response form the cache owner was something like "too bad you are so stupid that you tried to hunt a cache where a park ranger was watching". Moral of the story is if a cache is placed where it is not supposed to be and you get caught finding it, it is your fault for not being sneaky enough. PS The cache was immediately archived and the local reviewer sent me a note that they had been in negotiations with the area parks departments for quite a while and the cache in question was detrimental to their efforts. I never heard anything back from anyone I emailed. Did you issue an SBA log? That gets the attention of the regional reviewer(s). I wasnt able to issue one. I'm not sure if I know how. But I didnt directly email the local reviewer who reviewed it and explained the situation.

  15. I've found a few caches where velcro was used to attach. I hate this. It's defacing the property (especially since in both cases magnets could've been used)
  16. I recently got stopped by a park ranger. It seems where the cache was located (in a creek bed) was illegal to go down. There were signs (not the best writen though) Anyway, I emailed the owner, the moderator who approved it and I posted a note on the cache page. Still nothing.
  17. I have the cabe that came with the Garmin Etrex Legend. I need a PDA/USB connector to use it though. Is it worth the 30 dollars. What can you do with it besides easily transmit waypoints.
  18. This weekend I'm going to see my gf graduate from college. I'll be geocaching.
  19. Why care if someone cheats. It's not like there's a cache prize for the most caches. It's for the fun of caching. If you cheat, you're really cheating yourself.
  20. Decrease the distance for virtual caches and stages. It's hard to stumble on a cache that's not really there.
