    Yeah, me too. I started on a C64 with a 300 Baud modem accessing BBS'. I remember the christmas that I got my 1200 bd modem.... I remember thibnking "4 TIMES FASTER!! I can download 720K programs in a single evening now!!!"

    Speaking of multi-caches...... I was wondering. Do most people make thier multi's so that they are more or less linear (always getting further from the starting point or proceeding in a logical manner) or do some have you crisscrossing your path so often that you are not sure where (or how far away) the final cache will be from the starting point?

     

    Would you find it annoying to bounce in a seemingly random pattern all over a park (or city if one thinks on a grand scale for multis! icon_wink.gif) before finding the final cache?

     

    Finally, what are people doing for the intermediate pods/tags? I thought about having dogtags made up with the name of the cache and the coords for the next leg (and maybe a DO NOT REMOVE warning). Do you think these tags could be placed in (relatively) plain view in public areas without them being disturbed? Like zip-tied to a picnic table leg?

    I have been tempted to place more than one cache in a particular park.

     

    my only cache to date, "Hangin' by a Thread" has at least 100 great hiding spots with 50 yards. There are also a number of great spots through out the park. I have considered doing a multi-cache with 3-5 legs, but have resisted the impulse (for now).

     

    While I was out scouting for a place to put the next cache (park, pod and contents already selected!), I must have logged 5 waypoints that looked like promising places to stash a cache. This one probably WILL become a multi-cache.

     

    I guess there is just a strong urge to want to utilize all the best hiding places, even if they are really too close together.

    I hope the breakfasts don't go away!!! I enjoy meeting fellow cachers in a social setting.

     

    As for kids at the meetings, I certainly don't have a problem with it as long as they are not disruptive. Having 3 of the most disruptive kids I know, and still wanting to attend meetings, I am trying to work out something.

    PDA Utilities for Geocaching

    I use the Geocaching Database by DougsBrat. Get it here.

     

    It allows you to enter all the needed info from the cache page, has a taken/left section for each cache as well as a doodle pad for each cache and a notes section. The new color version looks great although it is not available for download yet.

    I guess I should weigh in here too. I have the Visor Prism and I can tell you that color makes a difference when using maps!

     

    I have found it to be very accurate and the quad antenna lets me get a lock inside the house. It does a lag a little, but you can compensate for that. There is an ever-growing number of applications for the palm that are specifically written for or are useful in geocaching.

     

    Finally, there are other nifty things you can do with it. With the wireless modem, you can access the geocaching.com site while you are on a search and log your find or look up the clue and with the digital camera plugin, you can take pictures of your cache hunt to share with others.

     

    All in all, I am very happy with mine!

    How did you find out about Geocaching???

    I don't really remember HOW I got to the site. I sit in front of a computer at work for 8+ hours 5 days a week. Ido a LOT of surfing. It was in January of 2002 that I found the site and thought "this is really cool!". I had always wanted a GPS, but didn't really have the money to get one. I perused the site for a few weeks and showed it to my wife, who thought it was really interesting. However, we had no idea how to hunt for a cache without a GPS and soon stopped visiting the site.

     

    For my birthday in May, I got a Visor Prism and for Father's Day, my wife gave me the GPS Companion for it. We have been caching for just over a month and we love it. So do our 3 kids! We are getting ready to place our first 2-3 caches.
