  1. Go and Get Em!!!!!!!! Event Date: 02/23/2002 https://coord.info/GC35E3 was the first Gag event by Tick & Nammie. Ottawa Ontario Canada There has been a GAG event (every year, including this weekend's Gag31, with the exception of Gag28. No event in 2020 due to Covid. But lots of caches placed and found. So that's one (or 2) events a year for 18 years. Plus another 3 events and counting. https://www.facebook.com/groups/175957139100026/search/?q=gag28
  2. If you place a cache that starts to get a lot of logs saying that the finders trespassed, climbed a fence, parked and took a short-cut, etc...then you seriously need to reconsider your choice of GZ. While it's nice to place caches in interesting places, the reality is that some people cannot follow simple logic and courtesy, or the law, and will eventually cause a problem with a land manager or property owner. Better to move your cache to a better location. I think it would be in the best interest of protecting the game's reputation if Groundspeak itself would delete any logs that mention the commission of an illegal act in the finding of a cache. A slap-on-the-wrist suspension of your account privileges would be a nice touch too, IMHO. Local reviewers should be given the power to suspend users for illegal activity. Never happen of course; Groundspeak seems not to care about the real-world consequences of the game, or it's player's actions on it.
  3. Is there a link to an older version of the app so I can once again download saved gpx files...sigh...??
  4. I for one really appreciate seeing how many finds cachers have that log finds on my caches. I see no value in seeing avatars of those who log a find, the smiley face was just fine. Quit trying to be a social network and get back to the basics. Who found the cache, when they found it and their log of the find Amen! I'm on dialup at the cottage and the download is just too much with all the new garbage on the cachepage. I just want to log my caches and upload a photo FGS...
  5. I found this one in Texas...! I knew I was doomed when i immediately went for the birdseed... Seriously though, please remember that REAL LIFE has very little to do with our beloved sport of geocaching. Just because YOU think your cache is a harmless 35mm in a tree doesn't mean that the bomb squad will shrug it off and assume the same. Their job is to render the situation safe, by disrupting the 'device.' Read the chronology of the entire event again. Suspicious package discovered. Reported. Action taken by Corporation. Bomb Squad called. Detonation. Aftermath... Would YOU like to be the CO, easily contacted by all authorities, and potentially LIABLE for costs and damages...? Would YOU like to be contacted by the Corporation's lawyers and asked to explain yourself...? Sued for damages? Charged? There are thousands of good locations for caches. Don't be one of the few who place caches in inappropriate locations, and make us ALL pay for your stoopidity...
  6. That's a dollar store mechanical PENCIL (works great all winter too) attached to a dollar store reel. Always hangs there, never gets lost of 'borrowed' and always works. The 'Ne Plus Ultra' of geocaching writing implement accessory. Available at any dollar store (or from me directly for 2 easy payments of $12.95...).
  7. Yes, the snow accumulation the last few years has been so dismal, and the temperature so warm that I couldn't maintain another quinzee. If the weather cooperates, it'll return though.
  8. Coyotes???! Where......? http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LU...f0-2b2390399786
  9. Obviously, if you are getting the notification on your caches and any that you are watching, someone has logged a NM at one time or another. Perhaps the NM log dates from a while back, before you performed maintenance, and you just forgot to post a Owner Maintenance log of your own in order to clear the NM icon from the cachepage...?? It's a simple matter to see who posted the NM and email them to see what the issue is...and it's just a click or two to post the OM to clear it. Don't forget that there area cachers running Pocket Queries who may decide not to go to your cache based on a NM icon on the cachepage...! <---- yikes!! This is also a good reminder to occasionally check your cachepage visually to see if there are any outstanding issues. Sometimes a notification goes astray or gets missed in the rush of day-to-day business.
  10. True. And if it’s in a really bad spot, where people have been nosing around suspiciously, annoying shoppers and businesses, and where you might get arrested, Cachers should consider noting that in the log -- including a Needs Archived, if appropriate. At least give newbees a "heads up" in the cache description. IMHO, “permission” is irrelevant to this story. It would very likely be exactly the same, except that when the DA dropped the charges, there'd be a phrase saying “thank God they had permission to place that cache, or who knows what may have happened.” Nobody actually thought it was a bomb -- you don’t get brought to an active bomb site by the police. Permission or not, it appears that this cache was placed in a less-than-sensible location. One where cachers COULD be observed searching/replacing the cache, thereby exposing themselves to the consequences - as has happened here. It really falls to the more experienced cachers in the community to EDUCATE their fellow cachers (and newbies) as to what constitutes a good, or a poor, hide. Please lead by example. As well, it falls to those same cachers to report in their logs, using the needs archived button if necessary, any problems they see with the cache hide. Any 'on private property' or 'potential adverse authority intervention' logs should be investigated by GC.com and the cache disabled immediately. IMHO.
  11. This week I discovered something weird with my Map60CSx. I have software version 3.30 and GPS SW Version 2.90 I had to project a WP in magnetic, so I used Menu / Setup / Heading to switch my unit to magnetic. No problem. Then I selected my starting WP, and selected Menu / Project Waypoint and proceeded to select the fields in the order than I usually do. From L to R: bearing / distance / then switch from km to m (for metres). The unit seemingly IGNORES the fact that I switched to magnetic and gives a WP projection in TRUE. I tried it on a Map60C with the same result. Several times. ONLY WHEN I switched the selection order on the project screen to; switch from km to m (for metres) FIRST, then bearing / distance did I get a CORRECT projection in magnetic. The only reason I knew that it wasn't giving me the correct projected WP was because that WP was along a riverbank, and I knew that it was on the OTHER side of the river.... Weird.....
  12. Just ran into this myself. Check out this thread on the CacheMate Forums . . . Nearest Search - Error I cleaned up some memory by deleting programs and it started running again. JohnTee I just had the same problem, so I did a soft reset and it's working again.
  13. Model12 & Aldy.............or are we already in the running?
  14. 1) 1956? (my birthdate...OK, I'm grabbing at straws!!!)
  15. I'm waiting to see what other finishes they'll be made in before I decide. It might be cheaper to buy the full set rather than one at a time. Anyone want to go half with me? Please send your co-payment to me asap to reserve your coin.
  16. Oh sure, just GIVE it away then...........
  17. I'd like to revise my answer to........ none confirmed.
  18. I will hazard a guess of......none. <ducking>
  19. Check this one out. It's up here in Ontario, Canada. Hook the rope with the forked stick, raise all into hole in tree and lower. Stick stays beside tied off rope, which is green....
