Man, your watching a lot of caches. I didn't think you could do that. Jeremy must have raised the limit. Action around here is so slow I'm going to expand my watch list. CreekBed.com

  3. Definitely sounds like a good find to me. From the photo it looks like you got pretty darn close to leatherface. At that point, I suppose I would have said the heck with it and gone for the cache. Another good read yrium. My co worker wonders what I’m chuckling about. “Just one of those funny spreadsheets”. 4. All but one of my caches are ammo boxes. I’m currently experimenting with some Rusto-leum (SP?) spray paint that’s supposed to apply a stone-like color and texture. With the paint and a geocaching label I don’t think anyone will get confused. Yeah, it seems like caching containers is a favorite topic. We had a walking stick discussion that went on for six months, and then there was the water container discussion.... Maybe Jeremy could have a separate forum area for geocaching related equipment though I suppose that might stray into “off topic” discussions about hiking and backpacking equipment. 5. Man! You make it hard for me to do a quick read of the forums when I’m at work. I downloaded the log for the Continental Cache and will read it at lunch. Is 30 minutes enough? CreekBed Geocache

  7. Of course poisonous plants vary with location but here, East San Diego County, it’s Poison Oak. It’s everywhere, gets on your boots, moves to your hands then gets on your face, then you spread it to your wife & kids. I’ve had infections that have lasted well over a month. Even when the dog runs through the stuff it can be spread to you off his fur. I've seen poison oak on just about every cache hunt I've done. I’ve been holding off to see if the awareness about travel bugs increases among the average geocacher . CreekBed Geocache

  10. I have no problem with that. I like having some variety in the geocaching sites. Actually, I’d like to see some sites spring up that have personal caches that aren’t listed on either site. Sort of a secret underground, untraditional network of caches. (No, not literally buried underground and nothing illegal)

I try to follow those rules as well. Actually I’m surprised at just how little room there is in a 50 cal ammo box for my stuff. Al, the rubber alligator, had to curl up his tail to fit in my last cache. Also, I like to leave a lot of the items in their original packaging. That takes up more room but I feel like it adds a certain “newness” to the cache. I just have a feeling that the kids like to get a brand new toy that’s still in the original unopened package. Hmmm, maybe I’m putting a little too much thought into all of this.

  16. Yeah, I’ve been really tempted. Some of the caches in my area have really declined. I held back though for the reasons you mentioned …“presumptuous/pompous/arrogant" I think the owners should be contacted of course, telling them that their cache is lame could take some tact.
  17. I’ve played around with PVC pipe myself but experienced the problems Hawk-eye described with the threads. Tried the Anti-seize compound as well (I think anti-seize is a combination or graphite and Vaseline) but it really collected sand and dirt. I haven’t ruled out PVC pipe, it could be labeled in a non-threatening way, I just can’t get around the binding thread problem.

With my camera bug I offer to pay postage or suggest they send the bug in my direction by way of other caches. I also supplied my mailing address and phone number. I don’t mean to present myself as standing in the wings, wringing my hands over what’s happened to the thing. I realized it was an experiment and I was just testing the waters to see what might happen. Like someone else said, never release a travel bug if you seriously expect to see it again.

  20. This would be the second bug I've set loose. I'm not brave enough to let a real camera go. I'm not going to worry if I loose a disposable camera. george Yeah, actually the camera is no real loss. It was one of those inexpensive “give aways” you used to get after subscribing to a magazine.

  22. quote:Originally posted by Jamie Z: I can only suggest attaching a laminated card to the travel bug, and writing _with as few words possible_, it's goal and instructions. Jamie Good advice. Also, it might be important to remember that there are thousands of cachers out there who are really casual about the game and don’t know a lot about travel bugs. That’s why I think an extra note attached helps. A small percentage read these forums. They pick the things up not realizing that they will have to actually respond in some way. By the time they get home, the excitement has worn off, they throw the bug in the corner and forget about it. A lot of people don’t even bother to log their cache finds. Guess this has all been said before. Now if there was a way to manage “member only travel bugs” I might go for that.
