  1. Yes, and this one has no serial number at all.
  2. Or do like I've done a couple of times and use wood for the container. In the unlikely event it is abandoned or lost, it will biodegrade centuries before something similar made of plastic!
  3. Yes, I think most cachers are responsible. How secure is secure enough? A couple of areas near me have flooded once in my lifetime. Caches in those areas could have been carried from creeks to the Delaware River to the Atlantic Ocean! And check this out. Perhaps the only safe cache in Missouri is at least 25 feet high in a tree!
  4. The hanky-panky here and the corporate spying discussed in another thread are creating gloominess. Sad.
  5. A likely arrangement would be the "7-6-7-6...6" arrangement suggested in another post. Many people - including me, until I saw a TV game show where a person couldn't come up with the current "6-5-6-5...6" arrangement - can't really describe the current pattern. It's interesting to see the roughly two dozen different flags the US has had in the past as it grew, with ever-increasing # of stars as the # of states increased. But GS will probably not face the new states issue, at least not with a split of California (won't happen).
  6. Don't forget that you can always stop/delay the search if things get dicey. Sit on a nearby bench, make a call, read for a few minutes, get a coffee. Review the area from a distance. Then you can get back into action. Better than acting strangely in a single spot for 15 minutes with people around.
  7. But don't miss where I'm going with this. I *don't* side with those who say that 100,000 finds or a 4-minute mile are irrelevant. I'm arguing that they *do* mean something. I agree that these things have inspirational value, even if they don't cure disease or create wealth.
  8. I say that for two reasons. First, human nature is such that in any activity people are intrigued by the extremes. Second, the high numbers cachers have been discussed in the forum for years.
  9. One way to help inform would-be seekers of the distastefulness of a cache location would be to post a picture of the area with your find/DNF/note. No need for criticism - show the picture and let seekers decide. The CO can't possibly object to the photo (we assume that it's not a spoiler picture, of course), because it simply shows the site that the CO selected (& apparently thought was wonderful ).
  10. Plus some of the readers and posters in this thread. Plus thousands of other players. We may feel that other achievements are more important (like curing diseases), but why the tallies and why the Guinness Book of Records? Because even "irrelevant" achievements are achievements! People care - big-time! Even if they deny it! Especially when they deny it! Even if a percentage of the big number finds can be challenged, the remaining 98% are awesome! They did it - we didn't. Period. Did 100,00 finds change the world? Did breaking the 4-minute mile change the world? Not really...but they are achievements.
  11. If they want loot (swag), stick to the larger caches. (However, the big caches tend to be in the woods, because they're harder to hide.) As for puzzles, they run the gamut of styles and difficulty. Try them out and see what's interesting. GL.
  12. Yes. Provided your reviewer agrees.
  13. Perhaps this thread should be moved to the main forum...
  14. I don't know the answer, but I didn't have trouble thinking of a workaround.... This thread may be moved by a moderator from Off Topic (puzzles, jokes 'n' stuff) to the main forum.
  15. This is a much-debated topic, and there have been other threads, but there's no reason there can't be more discussion. I predict a moderator will move this thread to the main forum where it will get more attention.
  16. Yes it is. Suppose that an average of 15 minutes was spent on each DNF, which is probably about my average. Accumulating 100 DNFs would therefore have required an investment of 25 hours of time! That surely warrants a high rating.
  17. They also lose their "lock" pretty quick. No "zip" and no "lock" equals no cache! Your photos of the magnetic pouch or sandwich with waterproof paper is a good idea, and the dogtag/multicache idea is good also. Another idea is to build a container attached by magnet or wire (not nails or screws, obviously) that "hides in plain sight" because it uses the same material (e.g., old wood) and is behind the sign.

    Mr

Here's Google's translation to English. This may help bring more answers.
  19. I see the definition of signature includes "or other mark." In the case above I might tape a leaf to the cache and take a photo. Who will challenge that...Grinch?!
  20. Drones are still in the experimental /novelty phase, as all technology once was (including smartphones, gpsrs, personal computers, etc.). Expect the rule to change by 2025 unless it's determined that this would fundamentally change the game.
  21. How about we have a heated discussion in your later years?!
