  1. I probably wouldn't attempt a 12 part mountaintop multi (lazy Florida flatlander here) but I don't understand the attitude of someone who complains about the fact that someone else wants to have a 12 part mountaintop multi. It's not like that multi sitting up there is going to crowd out other caches that the complainer might attempt.
  2. No, not pizza, I mean geocaches. Florida style is sticking it in a palm tree. So what's the NY equivalent? Someone referenced it on a cache page down here and I have no idea. Already did a forum search and didn't find the answer. Thanks.
  3. I found your letterbox in Chestnut Park in December. It was easier and quicker to find than the traditionals in the park, all the coords were dozens of feet off!
  4. Didn't know this area had so many offenders, I just assumed there was the same problem everywhere. There's a bunch of repeat offenders who can't seem to get this down and their caches are consistently off. I've just learned to pass those hides by.

  6. It takes me twenty minutes to start my barbeque but a couple of meth heads can manage this?
  7. Grabbed a park and grab in a cul de sac on my way to work on this nice sunny warm day in Florida.
  8. If they are caches, then publish them as caches. If they are just something you did at the event, then it's part of the event. Logging event activities as additional finds is like logging the burgers and cake you ate at the event.
  9. I looked at the link you posted. It sounds like it may be a geotrail, but makes no mention of any prize for completing the series. The list compiled in this thread are all geotrails (group/state sponsored series of caches) which reward finders with some sort of prize for finding x number of caches. Generally these prizes are geocoins, but other prizes are also listed. So I guess what I'm asking of you is, do they give you some sort of prize for completing this program? I completed the 2011 challenge. I got a nice certificate and a Pathtag.
  10. I use the phrase "scavenger hunt". People have heard of those even if they haven't heard of geocaching.
  11. Not sure exactly what qualifies as a Geotrail, but in central Florida Polk County has the Trek Ten Trails program that looks a lot like the DARC trail in the Panhandle: http://www.friendsoftheparks.net/2012TrekTenTrails.html
  12. http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2012/01/are-expensive-batteries-worth-the-extra-cost/ The gist of it seems to be that cheap dollar store batteries are fine for low power devices, but more complicated devices (like GPS receivers, I assume) are better suited for more expensive batteries that can sustain a higher power draw. I learned this the hard way: when I first started caching I would blow through dollar store batteries two or sometimes four per hike. Duracells last me for weeks.
  13. I'm my opinion, no. Geocaching is a game about specific places, and if you aren't in that place, you haven't found the cache. Working as a team in the immediate geographic proximity, sure, log the find if you aren't the one to sign the log, but that's as far as I'd personally stretch the definition of find.
  14. I know what fully grown weed looks like, but I thought perhaps some California cachers might know what it looks like in the early stages of growing or when it goes bad.
  15. Some pics from recent visitors: http://img.geocaching.com/cache/log/b5bd6edf-5117-4ca7-898c-ec1a2bfa2bb3.jpg http://img.geocaching.com/cache/log/f2b325e2-1d57-4f04-95be-4c709d2f3784.jpg
  16. Is it possible that these FTF hounds are unaware of local traditions since they are new in town? In my neck of the woods there are lots of caches named after other cachers, but almost none of them were (to my knowledge) considered tributes intended to be found first by the honoree. The ones I know about that were that kind of tribute weren't published until the honoree found them.
  17. I'm still using the six dollar stamp from Vistaprint I bought four years ago.
  18. I don't care what they write, but if they leave a blank log, a period, or a bunch of random letters, how am I supposed to know if that is a genuine log or a cat walking across their keyboard? If I ever found one of those on my caches I'd probably delete it thinking it was an error, just like I delete duplicate logs.
  19. I don't have extensive online gaming experience, but I know that Xbox Live does consider it cheating when you take advantage of a game exploit like being able to hide inside of a solid rock or cheats that give you unlimited ammo. When you report those folks, they mysteriously disappear soon afterwards.
  20. http://gothamist.com/2011/06/06/ticketed_for_eating_a_doughnut_in_a.php "this weekend the police gave two young women in Bed-Stuy summonses for eating doughnuts in a playground while unaccompanied by a minor." Yet another reason to avoid muggles.
  21. Claim the FTF. If you managed to sign the log, then the other cacher could have done so too. The other cacher has no way of knowing if he got there before you. If the other cacher also claims the FTF, ignore him and move on. There's nothing you can do to prevent him from doing so, and it's not worth the effort. If he complains to you, just tell him that you count your FTFs by log singing, and he is welcome to count his FTFs whichever way he chooses. Whatever you do, don't bother complaining in public or to him personally if he claims the FTF, there's nothing to be gained by that, and you know who signed the log first.
