  1. I'm considering upgrading my phone to the Sprint Evo. (I currently have a Blackberry Curve on the Sprint network.) The Evo can serve as a WiFi access point for up to four other devices! That sounds cool is the additional cellular service charged priced well or is it part of the regular contract? The Virgin one makes the $10 for 10 days or $40/month palatable (The unit gives access to up to 5 devices) I know, ATT's tethering for iPhone is exhorbitently priced and honestly cost prohibitive to do it.
  2. Maybe in your area, in these parts you really can't make any mention of any business unless its for an event.
  3. Nope, it still promotes a business whether not for, or for profit
  4. BikeBill, have you thought about investing in a MiFi? I have been seriously thinking of the Virgin model. $149 for the unit and no contract. And better yet $10 for 10 days of service )100MB) thats enough for DLing PQs, finding lodging, truck stops and other necessary things. I hear there is a 4G MiFi network in the Pacific Northwest and pockets around the country on another MiFi network. I am thinking that this maybe a good investment if doing road trips...
  5. I did the same while traveling in the Pacific Northwest during GeoWoodstock. I had no real clear plan of my route or where I was going. But once I decided, I found that Starbucks was my friend. (I was never a big fan of the brand) So a cup of coffee (some of the time) or parked near the entrance I could receive wi-fi access and plan my route and find truck stops or motels to sleep at. Picked a point where I want to go and DL'd the coords into my 60csx, Nuvi and cachemate and off I went. Planning a similar trip soon, before it gets cold gonna try for Route 66!
  6. Thanks, P. I need to finish Palisades and get back to the Ramapo area. These are good ones to start with and grab some nice caches. Now that Fall is on its way, I can't wait to get a nice hike through the fall leaves (I know, I know, its still a ways away)
  7. Ramapo Valley County Reservation is at the top of my list (Parking: N 41° 04.663 W 074° 11.242). There are a ton of caches (including gerbiL - GCC8 - the oldest cache in NJ) with lots of different loop possibilities. I hike at this park all the time (living nearby helps) even though there are no caches for me to find. If you let me know what kind of mileage you're interested in and whether you like bushwhacking and mountain climbing I would be happy to make some loop suggestions (There are *plenty* of caches very close to the trails, but if you like bushwhacking/climbing, there are also some nice caches on Matty Price Hill and Rocky Mountain). A nice loop that would get you to gerbiL - Schuber (Orange) -> Ridge (Blue) -> Silver. Just under 4.5 miles. Caches *very* close to the trails: A River Runs To It Blorange So Many Ifs gerbiL cacHe #10762: Ramapo Reservation cache Stony Mountain Cache LTF Curse 1: Ramapo There are a bunch more that are really not far from that loop. Simplified NYNJTC Trail Map Bill Thanks, BIll. Light bushwacking is fine and no mountain climbing, I would hate to end up like that 127 Hours chap! Especially knowing how clumbsy I am! Looking at 75 mile radius of NYC and 5-10 miles (higher mileage =less steep) Thanks to all for the posts, I will research and get on the trails!
  8. Wow, you are to be commended with your code of honor, and I mean that seriously! Much respect!
  9. I think that is cool!! Much better explaining what it is than leaving it in the cache as is, then someone may chuck it out!
  10. Vacation caches are prohibited for a reason, people can't maintain it and its evident that you can't. Commercial? Well, I guess its because its with in a commercial establishment (resort that many can't get permission to enter) and not something like a state park. So, now that is out of the way, here is a question. Where is the cache now? How are you going to get someone to get the geo-litter from where you placed it and dispose of properly?
  11. In your case, the cache page has attributes that CLEARLY state its available 24/7. Besides, the OP is discussing cemetery caches where attributes CLEARLY state it is NOT available 24/7 and within the text in the description. In the US, many municipalities make it illegal to be in parks/cemeteries from sundown to sunrise. To OP, its really unfortunately when people ignore whats written, I have had a few skirmishes with police and ornery muggles in daylight. I would definitely ask those who logged caches stating they did it at night to alter the log. Deleting as a last resort, may open a war, if they refuse to alter the log, I would post a note to let others know that finding the cache at night is frowned upon or even illegal (if it is in your area). Good luck!
  12. Nope, that would be an ALR. You just need to try to get out as soon as the notification gets out. That's about all you can do.
  13. Hey guys, nice posts, but like someone said early on these kinda sound on the "extreme" side. I am looking to do some hiking now that the weather is cooler and the fact that I am out of work would like to keep busy. The extreme hikes are a little scary to me as I will be attempting on my own. That said any decent loops in NNJ and Lower Hudson Valley? That would be a 2-3 star terrain and wouldn't take all day (I do have to drive back to the city) Thanks for the info in advance.
  14. I like all caches, micro, nano, gigantor. Not saying that I am a numbers runner (did 1 power trail that was nice but tedious), but they actually give me a smiley when I find them, much like when I catch a fish... I will have to check out Bensalem, PA. And see the area with the cool challenging micros! Cheers!
  15. Better a detailed hint than tearing up a flower bed!
  16. Wow! to leave litter out since Oct 2009 (and then take the time out to delete the log) offends me to the core. the CO speaks of a game they once love and are contributing to (their perceived) demise by leaving litter out. Definitely, contact Geocaching.com to get the log reinstated and perhaps see if a Reviewer can kindly ask for the litter to be removed. Ugh, gross!
  17. How is this stealing and the CO's fault? I can see being upset if you were scoping out a spot or 2, but as you said you were weeks away from placing them. Chalking it up to a learning experience, and when you are planning on placing a cache execute right away to ensure you got "your" spot.
  18. What I don't understand is why isn't the OP just giving us what was written verbatim in the retraction message along with cache description, etc. I don't mean to be rude, but OP has been active enough on this thread whilst on vacation, responding to various questions within the thread but not giving out the pertinent info rather wanting the speculation to mount? It just seems to be a little strange to me. I know nothing the thread says is really going to change the reviewers mind. I am just curious as to what prompted the retraction with so much "wrong with it" And Nymphsatyr's comment of perhaps the wrong cache was retracted does make a little sense, but again without anything to really go on we are just as confused as OP.
  19. seriously can someone confirm this? If you are asking about sending a message through Geocaching.com messaging, then its only if you check off the box next to "I want to send my email address along with this message." then the recipient can just hit reply in their email app/website and proceed. I use a separate email address for geocaching, then again I also have a dedicated spam address, ebay address, ...
  20. Thats right can't see a retracted, but I would love to see what the cache was and as I said see all the hypothetical theories the forum members have and add my own to the giant conspiracy! I can certainly say it is 1000% percent safe, easy & on proper ground. Yet, retracted. I personally think it was b/c whomever tried to find it & didn't, complained. Is that possible? The gc code was GC2DJ0B The reviewer stated that I should refresh his memory on how it is a puzzle cache. Which, it is not. I clearly wrote that in the cache & put it under other as opposed to traditional. The reviewer noted the reason you don't see "sign the wood log" caches is b/c they are not permitted. I don't even know what that means. I do know my cache had a tiny logbook that fell off. And, I do know it was retracted with the statement "so much wrong with it". I also know that the First to Find said it was unique cache & e-mailed me wondering (as I) why it would be retracted. Can you copy and paste the notation that the reviewer sent so there is no paraphrasing? A note to the reviewer to also say that initially it was coded puzzle in error then changed to "other" (though in my opinion it is a traditional cache) due to an error, and that you felt it should have been disabled rather than retracted (due to the fact that you are on vacation)and would have been remedied once you came home. And for the reviewer to let you know what "so much is wrong with it" so you won't repeat the "mistake" again in the future. But then again w/o seeing the actual quote in the note its all speculation on our part (well everything is speculation period)
  21. Agree with the 5 rating. Maybe a lot of people aren't getting it these days because of the money crunch? I know, that I have really been housebound this summer due to recently losing my job, so I am not out & about as much as previous summers. Just some food for thought.
  22. Or changed their caching name, went from team to solo cacher thus changing name...
  23. Thats right can't see a retracted, but I would love to see what the cache was and as I said see all the hypothetical theories the forum members have and add my own to the giant conspiracy!
  24. Since we can't see archived caches please supply the GC# if you want hypothetical theories from your fellow forum members
