Me, three. FireFox. It "thinks" like it's uploading, but the page returns to the upload photo page as if I'm freshly visiting it.

    Old TBs

Thing is, an AWOL cache owner leads to wet, mouldy, broken, and/or missing caches. It degrades the whole game when a CO disappears. If a TB owner disappears, other cachers still have the pleasure of finding a trackable and moving it to a new cache for other cachers to find. There's no real harm done to the game. The TB movement isn't just for the owner's enjoyment; it's also for the enjoyment of other cachers. Hope this helps explain the difference.
  3. Exactly. Fewer people are concerned about it, therefore it's not as big of an issue. The question is, how much of an issue does it need to be before any sort of policy (nod to toz: formal or informal policy) needs to be made? There are a bunch of practices in geocaching right now that could be considered "Conflict of Interest" or "inside advantage" but are not addressed. Do we have to build in policies about every probable scenario that could create an advantage, or do we use common sense? Common sense suggests, IMHO, that there's little advantage reviewers have when publishing traditional caches. Therefore, it's not worth the hassle of setting up any sort of official policy to discourage it.
  4. Groundspeak is apparently concerned about CoI on multis and puzzles. If they were concerned about CoI on trads, they'd have made a policy about it when they did on multis and puzzles. Apparently GS didn't think there was enough ground to slap a policy on trads.
  5. Wow - this thread was sure pulled out of the mothballs. What's the record for thread resurrection? It's not talking about rat poison. http://www.cacheopedia.com/wiki/Decon_container
  6. I think complaining about what he said about the LPC being missing is much ado about very little. A tempest in a teapot. This is a short, introductory video; it's not the Video Encyclopedia of Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Geocaching. It's very possible it was muggled, and it's very possible it was muggled by someone seeing another cacher lift the skirt. Or it might not have been. But the video editor isn't going to show an explanation of the dozens of possible scenarios leading to the disappearance of the cache.
  7. Oh, my. My smartphone is pay-as-you-go. I have to put a minimum of $10/month on it, or $100/year. I use free wi-fi around the city to get online, as well as the wi-fi at home. I have no need to buy a data plan. (If I do, which has happened once or twice in the past 6 months, it's $1 for 10 MB - not a lot of data, but enough to update my cache listing or visit a few web pages.) Find the caches using offline stored listings, log 'em when I get home. The monthly cost is exactly the same as my dumbphone from 6 months ago. I cannot imagine paying over $100/month for a phone! Oh, and I like the idea of QR codes in caches, but also agree it should be a puzzle cache (or field puzzle attribute until a QR code attribute is instituted) with clear instructions on the cache page that a QR reader is needed.
  8. "Reviewers strive to begin the review within 7 days of enabling your listing. You may experience longer than normal waiting time in the week following a holiday, or after a large geocaching event. We ask for your patience. Please keep in mind that reviewers are volunteers and sometimes things come up in their lives that delay geocache review." http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=81
  9. What DNF list are you talking about? Do you have a bookmarked list of them, or are you referring to your Geocaching Logs (filtered by log type)? If it's a bookmark list, go to your list of lists, and click on Edit in the DNF list. Put a check mark in the ones you want to delete, then at the bottom click on "Bulk Delete." If it's the geocaching logs list, they stay unless you delete the logs themselves in the caches.
  10. It has been answered - I've found two answers. First, copycats. "Oh, cool! A buried cache! I'll do that, too!" in a spot without consent and/or not of the same quality. Soon you get buried caches in spots they shouldn't be, and land managers get upset and refuse geocaching on their property. Second but less likely, it can be dangerous to wildlife. A deer, moose, etc. could step on it and break a leg.
  11. http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx Guideline #7 (Since you have to read the guidelines before placing a cache, you might as well receive a link to them. )
  12. It was only logged as NA today, October 22. Give it a few hours.
  13. Thing is, there ARE no patrolling "professional" cache police. No one has the official duty of periodically checking on caches to make sure they follow the guidelines, are maintained, etc. We, the cache finders, are supposed to (or at least encouraged to) report guideline violations - WE are the cache foot patrol. Where's my tin star?
  14. I'm following this thread with interest. My Google phone jumps all over at GZ also, and wonder if there's a good explanation. Thanks for starting it, and I wish you success in finding a cause!
  15. Wow. So people that report possibly dangerous (physically AND to the continuance of the game) caches "thrive on causing drama and love controversy" and are "petty." Where is a cache I can report?
  16. Well, now I feel like an idiot. Thanks for the help. This one hasn't been logged since November 2012! Woo hoo!
  17. Better to log it as a Needs Archive, then place a new cache there when it's archived. A bison tube isn't the same size as the plastic container, so the cache page would be all wrong.
  18. **ANSWERED** Found a Cachekinz TB today. It is not listed as being in the cache. It has the regular super-secret trackable number on it, but no reference number, so I cannot find its page to log it. I looked in the list of past trackables for the cache; it isn't there, as far as I can see. I looked on the member profiles of the 5 people who have logged visits to the cache in the last week; it isn't listed in their profiles. I THINK its name is Lakey Dragonfly, or else that is the name the owner gave it. How do I find this critter to log him?
  19. Since the guidelines are now that you cannot require the cacher to interact with staff, making a cacher go to Ye Olde Adulte Sexe Store (or anywhere in which you have to flash your ID) to log a cache isn't allowed. Exceptions MIGHT be made for events, but that's a whole nuther ball o' wax.
  20. They're called "signatures" and are pretty standard on online forums all over the Internet.
  21. I'm not sure how "rates returned to normal" suggests burnout. To me, burnout means that people don't go back to normal, but slower than normal. To me, burnout means, "I'm sick of this activity! I'm quitting for a while" and not "I'm sick of this activity! I'm going back to my normal rate of activity." Of course not everyone is going to continue to streak. That doesn't indicate burnout to me, but a return to normal activity.
  22. That's one good reason to do a bit of research before going. If the TB has been dropped into the cache recently, chances are good it's still there. If it has been 6 months or more (or maybe even newer), chances are it is not there. Checking the TB page and the more recent logs for mentions of them (whether they're still there, or that there aren't TB's in the cache) saves one a lot of disappointment! I've got a missing TB logged in my cache. I swung by about 3 weeks after it was placed, to find it gone. I PM'd the most recent finders, but didn't get any lead on the thing. (One person didn't answer, which leads me to suspect it was them.) My conundrum now is in deciding when to mark it missing. What if it pops up again? What if whoever took it considers it theirs when it's marked missing? Argh! It'll be 3 months since placement on Oct 18. I did contact the TB owner when I learned it was missing. I think it's good to communicate with TB owners as much as possible.
