  1. Last I checked, this was a GEOCACHING forum - not FFL forum. Bashing of another (completely separate) event is completely uncalled for. If you choose to trash talk, do it among your own league where it is expected - not on the GC forums. Spzzmoose: quote: OMG That is the most screwed up draft I've ever seen! I personally joined the "free" FFL in order to learn how to do something that just might be fun - similar to the reasons I tried caching. You can try to sound as high and mighty as you would like, but there was a day that you were green & I'd be willing to bet you didn't jump right into the "big leagues," nor would you have appreciated being laughed at by strangers. I'm the first to admit that I don't know a dadgum thing about a FFL - why the hell do you think I joined a free one??? But guess what - I'm in it to have fun, and you have NO RIGHT to try to take that from me. CLEARPATH: quote: ROTFLMAO!!! cachecrazies, you wouldn't last 10 secs in most of the fantasy sport leagues. The talk in this thread is MILD compared to the trash that is usually thrown around. & bigcall: quote: Perhaps this was a bit much for your tastes, but that's the way the FFL game is usually (and preferrably) played. I repeat - this thread is NOT a FFL thread - take it to where it belongs. bigcall: quote: As far as I'm concerned this was just an observation of a public draft. This is not a "public" league, nor was it a public draft. Just becuase someone was thoughtful (and trusing enough in fellow cachers) to openly invite everyone to join the league, it does not give you free access to come observe us purely to have some entertainment at our expense. You can say what you will, but it shows a great deal of immaturity to continue attacking people personally ("you pathetic piece of crap") where it does not belong. I am looking forward to the "trash talk" that comes with the game - that is part of the enticement, getting crazy & letting loose - but I look forward to doing it in an environment where I am comfortable & among friends, not on a thread that really has nothing to do with football, and especially not in an environment where I have to wonder who is watching me, waiting for me to do something stupid so they can humiliate me behind my back. This seems similar to the crap on the playground at my kids' school, certainly not something I'd expect from the caching community - a place that I had come to feel comfortable in at one time. I guess one big question comes to mind: If your league is so interesting & you are so good at what you do, why are you wasting your time watching us? It calls to mind a bully who can't hold his own with someone his own size so decides to pick on the little kid.... A bend in the road is not the end of the road... Unless you fail to make the turn.
  2. I think this could be the one (or similar to the one) that ErSamin was thinking of. Having a husband with disabilities, we get out as much as possible to get "enjoyable" excercise with caching...unfortunately, some of them you just can't tell til you get there if it will be accessible or not. Luckily, we enjoy geting out to them whether we can finish it or not! I think it is too much to ask for everyone to complete this form & really don't think it will catch on, but it is a neat idea. A bend in the road is not the end of the road... Unless you fail to make the turn.
  3. Don't stop at Easter...we had my daughter's 9th Birthday Party in a park in September...out of a combined 21 parties thrown for my kids, this was by far the best! We placed one cache per guest, labled them distinctively, each guest getting control of the Geep for her assigned cache. They searched as a group, but only the "cacher" for that particular one could truly "find" it. In the cache was one big item for the "cacher" and 9 smaller, party-type items for the others. They had a blast! As a time-killer at the end, we had a similar search, splitting the kids into 2 groups, finding puzzle pieces (an 8x10 printout of the birthday girl, cut into large puzzle pieces). Each group had a different photo, but they were hidden in the same spot. The trick was to be discreet enough that the other team didn't see where one was found. Everyone got ribbons for their team, and they all signed the birthday girl's ribbon. This was educational - they learned about satellites, GPS units, buddy-system, being discreet, team-work, how-to-shut-up-when-you-see-the-cache-but-it's-not-your-turn, etc! But most of all, we got away from the swimming or mini-golf or ice skating parties we have all gone to a few too many times (and hosted a few too many, as well!) A bend in the road is not the end of the road... Unless you fail to make the turn.
  4. We are very new to the cache-crowd, so take this opinion with a grain of salt... Being on a temporarily *tight* budget, I still feel the guitly twinges from splurging on the GPS with the only current use being a "toy" for us growed-ups. One of the big selling points was that once the initial investment was past, we could join this group of fun-loving, good-hearted people for essentially no cost. I love the creativity I have seen on some of the "samples" here, but the thought of even $20 a pop for something that will be out-dated from the moment I find the next cache in which to place the cards is disenheartening. However, the thought of limiting the use to "pre-approved" cards only & eliminating the creativity of so many here seems unreasonable, if not impossible. My suggestion: Create a general template as has been suggested, in several common formats, such as .jpg, .gif. etc (easy to convert for those with the capabilities, impossible to utilize just one format for others) that could be printed on business cards if accessible, or heavy stock paper if not...but also encourage originality of others - with the stipulation that there be one image included on all cards, making them "Official." Similar to the Good Houskeeping Seal of Approval? Of course, those with signature items already being left, I personally would love to find one of them. I'm thinking of different things we could create to leave, and having the "official" mark on them would be kinda neat. Just an opinion from someone who doesn't generally form them....much less let them be known Pamm Working on that signature file that will bring a smile to every face... 6. What a Welcome to GeoCaching! Hope the rest of your caches are as exciting in a safer way! My first cache could not be found, still has not been found...but I'll take that over watching 4 car pile-ups!
