  1. Thanks for the advice everyone. I managed to get in touch with him, and he's keen on us getting the cache going again. Everything with the cache is in order, so will just relist it again. Hope that cachers up in the Highveld take the time to find it.
  2. Thanks Silvia, I popped him a message over the weekend on the one listed on Geocaching.com, so hope he does receive it, but see that he hasn't been active in a few years. I'll give it a few weeks and then will decide if we will relist the cache at the location. Regards, Dan
  3. Hello everyone, We've been Geocaching on and off for the past 10 years or so, we used to have the account TeamTGF. Many years back there was a geocache called Castle Gorge Link in the Magaliesburg. We had it on our list of caches to find, but with two DNF's, the owner, Adventure King, archived it. This long weekend, we thought it would be nice to go on a hike in a new area and also to take a look for the cache on the off chance it is still there. What an amazing place! I can't believe the cache wasn't one of the most popular at the time as it really could be the most beautiful place I have ever seen in South Africa. After nine years without a find, the cache was still safe in it's hidey-hole. We have become quite frustrated with Geocaching in the past few years as most finds we've searched for have been quite pointless, so was amazing to find a large cache again in a beautiful area. Does anyone have the current contact details for Danie (Adventure King)? Of not, how does one go about resurrecting and adopting an archived Geocache? Good to see some of the old names still active on these forums! Kind Regards, Daniel
  4. Hey Igugu, We've decided to rather go to Vaalkop dam, which is somewhere in the area. Hope to bump into you guys on the weekend. Have Fun and Good Luck!
  5. Thanks for the responses. I've just inquired about the prices and it's way too expensive for what's supposed to be a cheap camping getaway. I'll be looking for other alternatives in the area...
  6. Hey There, We're planning on a camping weekend in the Pilanesberg National Park at the end of April (30 Apr - 3 May). We're looking at either the Bakgatla or Manyane camps. Has anyone in this forum camped at the mentioned sites? Which is better and are there any other camp-sites nearby the park which I've overlooked. If there is anyone who is keen on joining us for the weekend, give us a shout, we'll maybe add it as an event if there is enough interest. Thanks, Daniel
  7. On the Waymarking front, Welcome to The Windsockers who posted Knysna's First Ever Waymark all the way from Ireland!
  8. Take a look at the Trailnetwork on Motionbased.com. Here's the link to the Drakensberg filter, but often tracks are mislabled, so with a bit of searching you will be able to find many more.
  9. Sorry to dissapoint you Vespax, it was Photoshopped. The Children at the school one day would not believe me that my car is related to lightning McQueen, so I had to bring them photographic evidence. Now, according to the kids, I've got the coolest car in the school and whenever we take them on outings, the whole class tries to cram on the backseat to ride in Lighting McKing!
  10. My little Fiat Palio does the trick! It's tackled many mountains and never given a problem.
  11. Welcome to the Double Dee's!
  12. Geocoaching??? Spotted this in the Citizen today. Good luck everyone for this weeks Geocoaching Event, hope you all have been practicing!
  13. Hee Hee, It's quite addictive. If you want to waste a few more hours every day, take a look at Photojojo, it's a free photographing newsletter which usually comes out once a week.
  14. Which internet browser are you using? If you're seeing images on other sites and it's just these forums which are giving you a problem, then I think you must have blocked images on the forums.Groundspeak server. I'm using Firefox and the way to unblock is to click... Tools > Options > Now choose the Content Tab > Click the Exceptions... button > The Forums.Groundspeak should be on a list. > Remove it off the list and apply your changes. I'm sure IE and the other browsers will have a similar path to follow, so hope this helps.
  15. Hi Leon, There are many tutorials on the web for Photoshop and the other photo editing software, do a search on Google and it will return thousands of results. If you don't have a copy of Photoshop and want a good Freeware program, try using The GIMP, I also have a copy of photoshop, but I've found The GIMP to be easier to use and is regulary updated. Here's a link to the Photoshop Support Group, which has a very active forum expaining some of the photoshop techniques.
  16. Hi webscouter, There are a few other Geocaching groups on Flickr, the main, non-regional, group can be found at http://www.flickr.com/groups/geocaching/. If you're looking for a more specific group try this link, groups have been created for the UK, Montana, Pensylvania, Denmark and many more. I'm sure you will be able to find a group to join. Also take a look at the Waymarking group, it only has 25 odd members, but we're all very active and September 1st was the beginning of our first ever Monthly Photo Scavenger Hunt. Still, please join the SA group, if you ever stumble upon a Travel Bug from our beautiful country we would love to see it make an appearance in our pool. Keep Well, TeamTGF.
  17. Yes, we would love for non South-Africans to join the group, as long as the photo's that are submitted are taken while Geocaching or Waymarking in South Africa, or if you find something relating to South Africa in another country we would also love to have the photo included in the group.
  18. Thanks Huskies, Please would you consider adding your South African Geocaching pictures through to the group. The group has already converted one photographing muggle to give geocaching a go and I'm sure with more interesting photo's, we can get even more people to try geocaching.
  19. Welcome to Hyper7pro! Starting off with a BANG and claiming a FTF on your first ever cache. Well done!
  20. Hi There, One of our favorite segments to geocaching is taking photographs and browsing other geocachers profiles to take a look a the recent additions to their galleries. Now we've created a photography group on the photosharing website, Flickr, for everyone to post their favorite Geocaching and Waymarking pictures in all their Hi-res glory. The link to the group is http://www.flickr.com/groups/geosouthafrica/. Hopefully the group will also spark some interest in Geocaching in the Photographing community. Registration only takes a minute and is free. Some of our Faves from the group:
  21. Bumping this Thread... We've been in touch with Coins and Pins about the South African Community Geocoin. They have received numerous emails from people wanting to buy the old one and were wondering whether the South African Geocaching Community were ready to produce our first coin.
  22. Hello there, We agree with the comments made above, Cache Reviewers will not Publish a cache that is placed on holiday unless someone nearby has offered to maintain it. As you have mentioned Waymarking is not well supported in South Africa, but I'm sure one day will be just as popular as Geocaching. Another option is to place an Earth Cache, which seem to be allowed on Geocaching.com again, the site is www.earthcache.org and the cache will be listed on the Geocaching website. Hope this helps, TeamTGF.
  23. Thanks ZAteam for spotting the thread. I just love the shape of the coin, well done Huskies! A coin for all GeoDog fans.
  24. Congrats John-Gill on your recently published Little One!
  25. The Waymarking site has a category for Bookcrossing Zones. I'm sure there are a few caches in the category that can be added to your list.
