According to Garmin, the Vista Cx only holds 500 waypoints. The Vista HCx will hold 1000 waypoints. https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=167&pID=326 Basemap: yes Preloaded maps: no Ability to add maps: yes Built-in memory: no Accepts data cards: 64 MB microSD card (included) Waypoints/favorites/locations: 500 Routes: 50 Track log: 10,000 points, 20 saved tracks Thanks, I thought I was looking at the specs for the Vista Cx, but I was looking at the Vista HCx which has 1000.

I am trying to load alot of waypoints on my Vista Cx. It is supposed to hold 1000 waypoints. But all I can get loaded are 499. Does anyone know why?

I upgraded my 64MB card to a 1G card in my Vista Cx. When I try to download my map sets, I get an error message that says " The map set contains 880 too many items to fit the GPS". The map set has 2905 maps and is 735 MB's. I been reading the forums and did a search, but I did not see any reference to this problem.

eTrex Vista $130 ship $5 Store price ~ $260 Pro: Compass & altimeter, good review Con: serial cable connect, referb, no SD cards http://www.megagps.com/index.asp?PageActio...&ProdID=756 I'm partial to the Garmins. I have a Legend and a Vista Cx. Love the electronic compass on the Vista. The legend is also a great unit. It has everything the vista has except for the compass and altimeter.

The Etrex Vista Cx does both.

I lost my Etrex Legend in November. I looked all over the place for days and could not find it anywhere. I decided to stop Geocaching for the winter and maybe it would show up later. Well, Here comes March and still no GPS. I got a bonus from my company and decided to replace it with a Vista Cx. 2 weeks after the Vista arrived the Legend showed up between the front seats of my truck.

When I sign the logs I would like to start putting a stamp in the shape of a crawfish. The problem is that I can not find one. Does anyone know where I can find this. I would like it to be a small stamp about 1 or 2 inches.

I used a legend before I lost it. I loved it, the only thing I did't like was the 8MB of memory. It filled up to fast. I just ordered a vista. I didn't see any mention of the Vista in this dicussion. I was wondering if I made a good choice to upgrade to it.

I think that micros should have it's own category in the types of finds in your profile.

I have a Palm IIIe. When I upgraded to the new Palm software it would not hotsync. I then removed that and reinstalled the oridginal software that came with the unit and everything works fine.

No, PQ are run by coordinates, or by state/province/country. Using a ZIP Code or waypoint ID is just a short-cut to setting the starting coordinates. What I do is, after I get my pocket query I give it a name when I save it. Usually the city of the zip code. I use cmconvert when it makes the file to down load to the Palm I give it a name. I also have that name in the catagory dropdown menu when cachemate sycs the file it ask you which catagory you want to put it in. I then put it in that category. Now if I go to that city all the caches are in one place.

Couldn't you do a virtual cache? How could they stop cachers from doing that?

I am accompanying my wife to Durham on a buisiness trip. I ordered the Travel Guide off the web. After it came in and I was reading through it. I saw an article on Geocaching. The City of Durham seems to be promoting the hobby of Geocaching. So props to Durham!!

I was at a store and I saw a package deal for the Legend, the cables, and Topo for $200. Is that a good deal? I was thinking that with the maps provided on geocaching.com couldn't I just get the basic eTrex? It seems like out of anything a hardcopy map would be more helpful than a little GPSr screen. Am I wrong on that? I'm a very new guy, and maybe I'm not understanding some of this. ~Matthew After you do this for a while you will not want to carry any paper. So, yes the etex and a map would work. But the little map on a GPSR works better than you think. If you found an etrex legend with topo for $200 I would make the investment. Later on you will want to get a PDA and do paperless caching.

If you can't enter the coordinates it would be useless. Also I do not think it would be wise to bring an $800+ gps treking in the woods. To much can happen out there.

I bought one for $0.48 that's 48 cents plus $5 shipping on EBAY.

I just bought my garmin etrex Legend last week on a whim. since I had another garmin Product I wanted to get a handheld that used the same software(mapsource US TOPO). A day or two later I found Geocache.com. the unit will tell me it is accurate to 15 ft. But I will find the cache right where the Legend tells me it is. The Legend seems to be very accurate. I love that little unit.
