  1. I haven't ignored any of the caches I've gone to. There are a few that I've put down as fall or winter cache finds, when the brush dies off, so I can see cactus or critters, lol.
  2. This is my view point as well. The fun is in the find, some are awesome, some are not, but a find is a find. My daughter and I have a great time hunting!!
  3. I like the blue smilies idea as well. Or at least the blue halos around them. Makes it easier to find them. For now I have a bookmark list but that doesn't show up on the map....
  4. Thank you Semper Questio!! I added those challenges to my watchlist!! Now I have TONS of caches I need to find to complete all those challenges!!! Guess I better get started!!!
  5. I am working on Texas Cemetery Cache Challenge... Find 100 caches located in or by or mentioned on cache page. Got a way to go cuz I've only found 16 so far
  6. Try clicking on this map link: http://www.geocaching.com/map/#?ll=50.01377,-97.697294&z=9. Hopefully it will pull up the geocaching map in the Winnipeg area!!! Have fun!!! Sign up at geocaching.com
  7. Keep trying!!! It helps to read the other cachers logs on the page, sometimes you will get a little hint. Also lok at any pictures that are posted on the page for clues as well!! It also helped me to look at pages that sell cache containers so I could get an idea of what to look for. I know a lot of cachers hate these but those metal things at the bottom of lamps posts will sometimes lift up! Oh, and there are some threads around where people have posted pictures of unusual caches that are pretty awesome! Don't give up though because once you start finding them----you won't want to stop!! Have fun!!
  8. I don't ride BUT I love cemetery caches!!! Especially in ones that have really old sections! LOTS of history there!!!
  9. I hide a tricky cache. 20 people look for it and half of them DNF it at least once. All of them DNFs eventually go back to look again and eventually Find it. Should this cache have 20 Finds, or 20 Finds and 10-15 DNFs? Under your logic, it would have no DNFs even though it is not found half the time that people search for it. Many cachers find it very frustrating and disheartening when they can't find a cache that has zero DNFs. That wasn't exactly what I meant. I didn't mean for the DNF's to be gone from the caches... More like a list of one's I DNF'd before and still haven't found VS a plain DNF list that includes every DNF I ever had. I have no problem with the DNF's but a list of one's I still haven't found would be nice.... SO I took one of the other poster replies and made my own bookmark for them!!! BTW should have 20 finds and 10-15 DNF's...
  10. That was it basically. I have no problem logging my DNF's at all, might have missed a few BUT not on purpose!! I just wanted to be able to see a list of DNF's (that I haven't already gone back and found) so I don't have to sort through the list of DNF's to figure out which I have found vs which I still have not found! NOW I have my own bookmark list and they are all sorted out!!! And someone introduced me to GSAK! Which I will slowly be learning how to use as well!!!
  11. So, if I use this, when I hook up my gps to my computer and go to the site it will download my stuff to the data base? Sorry, Im not too computer smart. lol Also.. Do you think this would be easier than making a bookmark list?? I think the bookmark list is easiest, from a path-of-least-resistance point of view. GSAK does so much that it is almost overkill for this specific task. But you can do stuff with GSAK like convert the bookmark list to a Pocket Query then import that file into GSAK and display your DNFs on a map. I may just go with the bookmark thing for now BUT it looks like you can do ALOT with that GSAK. So much it's kinda intimidating for me! lol TY for the help frinklabs!! It is greatly appreciated!!!! Don't try to swallow the elephant in one bite. Take small nibbles and won't be long before your quite accomplished. LOL, I downloaded it and will start playing with it to see what I like, dislike, use, don't use, etc.... Small bites!!!

  13. The fact that it is a find now does not change that it was a DNF before. You can't change the past. Plus a quantity of DNF-to-finds can be used to fulfill requirements of a challenge cache. Interesting cache!!! Too bad it's so far away from me! Like 1000's of miles, bet I'm getting close to 25 DNF's to !!!

  15. If I go back and find it isn't it a find now and no longer a DNF???
  16. I wish that if I DNF a cache and find it later the DNF would disappear from my DNF list. I would like to have a day that I look for only DNF caches and it would be ALOT easier if I didn't have to sort through the DNF list and figure out which ones I have actually already found....
  17. I use an eTrax 10. I like it, but I have only been caching locally like within 30 miles and I know the area. I don't use that map thingy at all, it makes NO sense to me.... But, since I know the area I pretty much know the streets, etc. I also plan my route each time I cache, noting streets, where to turn, etc from the map of caches on the geocache webpage. When I cache I click on geocaches and leave it on the main page for them with the distance in feet and the nifty little arrow lol. I do believe you have to be connected to the computer to delete old caches, haven't had to figure that out yet, but that's what I have been told. I guess at some point I'll have to upgrade to a gps with maps.... When we go on vacation in a couple of months I might be in trouble finding caches, then again, maybe not (I hope!!)!! Happy Caching to you!!
  18. Must say these are some AWESOME pics of some WONDERFUL finds!!!! Some cutie-patooties as well!! LOVE the one of the baby in the ammo box!! :D
  19. That depends on what you perceive as a "generic" TB. If you get too cute with it, it happens that those disappear more readily than do others. Sometimes, it shows up at another cache with a different traveler (as in replaced). Not saying that this happens a lot, it doesn't really, but it does happen from time to time. There is also the scenario where a youngster takes a hankerin' to the traveler, and the parents don't have the "kahunas" to say NO (that happening seems to be fairly prevalent). The long and short of it: Don't make it real cute or pretty and don't make it too large (sometimes it is difficult to find a cache big enough to hold large ones). Which means they languish about a cacher's vehicle, bag or desk drawer at home only to be forgotten. One small piece of advice -- don't use that godawful beaded chain to hold the traveler to the tag. Use a large split-ring or (our favorite) use a short piece of cable (garage door cable), with the ends sealed together with a crush-able ferrule. We always include a mission statement with it. Such is printable right from the TB page (you can size it accordingly before printing. Then have it heat laminated on BOTH sides. Simply punch a hole through the laminate and lace the cable or split-ring through. Garage door cable and ferrule: Don't be in a rush to get 'em all out there. Send a few and let them get going on their way. Once they are out of the "area", then release the others one or two at a time. It keeps you thinking about what to use as travelers and it also allows you to get the idea about how fast -- or slow -- they are going to move. Above all else: NEVER release a traveler into the wild that has a special (emotional) connection to you or a loved one. It is a recipe for disaster. LOVE the TB in ur picture!! Its soooo CUTE!!!! And a really good idea!!!
  20. I picked up a TB last month that wants to go see the Marfa Lights in Marfa Texas. I am sooo excited to have him... her.... it BECAUSE I get to take him...her...it to it's goal!!! I think it's cool to know where they r wanting to go or do... All of them I've picked up (not many, like 6 or 7), or that I've found missing from caches with interesting goals are on my watchlist so I can continue to follow their progress!!
  21. Great brochure! I'm just getting started, but I think that may come in handy at some point.... +1
  22. Most people have no idea what I'm talking about if I mention that I geocache. Had a cop come check to make sure I was OK, he knew and another guy that was also checking that I was OK knew. Everyone else looked at me like I was crazy, (ok so I am sometimes) lol. Did have one person ask if I was geocaching when I was looking for a hard one. She told me that cache was missing after she looked it up on her phone (I don't have a smart phone). Then the CO said, nope it's not, gave me some clues and I found it so she was wrong lol. I'm always on the look-out for other cachers in my area, would love to meet some since it seems there is never an event close enough to me so I can go.... Local group doesn't seem to be very active either....
  23. Searching older topics and came across this one!! Already enjoying your articles!!!
  24. LOVE ur story!! This is why when I make my caching list I will still include ones in my search area that have DNF's even ones that have DNF's for a year or more that are not archived yet. Who knows? Maybe it IS still there and maybe, just maybe I can find it!!!
