  1. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this trying time!
  2. Yup, I have done one close to me.... What's Cooking?
  3. I have a pet peeve with rock caches like MANY people have said. How do you know it hasn't got burried with people flipping rocks all around? I usually will ATTEMPT to find the cache in a rock bed, but only give it a 5-10 min look.

  5. I think for the most part, I echo what everybody else is saying. All caches are almost winter friendly, it's just how much work you want to do to get to them. For MY caches, the cache will only get the winter symbol if it is well above ground and won't be burried under the snow. I do put on my other caches that they might not be availble in the winter and to hunt at their own risk.
  6. I think you need Yoda on there saying "Give me the cache or I will help you not"
  7. I wouldn't call mentioning a mis-rated cache in your log whining. The logs are there in part to provide feedback to the CO. Yeah it sucks not finding the right size container, but then again I would take the smiley of finding SOMETHING instead of a DNF.
  8. I have like 5 caches on my ignore list, only because I helped a cacher place them and he was the one who listed them and I don't plan on getting a cheap smiley on them.
  9. Or is it being lazy on the cachers part that they didn't climb the hill, climb the ladder or whatever the terrain was to make it a 5? If that is the case, why have diff/terr even listed for a cache. Going by your thought, as long as we described the cache and put a few atributes, then it doesn't matter how they get the cache.
  10. Woo Hoo, I see the mini ammo cans are back in stock!!!
  11. I vote no, only because of the following....(some already stated) 1) What is easy for one person is hard for another. 2) What if a person has a grudge against you and just ranks it low out of spite. 3) What if a person just does it to joke around and rates it low not being serious. 4) Depends on when a person does a cache. Might be a 4-4 in the winter, but a 2-2 in the summer. 5) A constantly change cache would screw people trying to complete a fizzy challenge.
  12. I still don't think asking a person to take their pic, or have their pic taken at a cache is THAT bad of a ALR. I guess everybody plays the game differently. I just wouldn't feel right logging a 5-5 cache if I just stood on the ground while some other brave so tackled the cache. That is why I think requesting each person's pic at the cache in it's general hiding location isn;t that bad. Not EVERYBODY is cracked up to do the harder terrain caches and they shouldn't get "rewarded" for being a cheerleader is all I was getting at.
  13. When the ammo cans start talking, it's time to take a break from caching. I think he's referring to Welch. He's full of a lot of old and forgotten geocaching things. (just like his caches) Yeah, but that ammo can told me she loved me. Now she never calls, she never writes.....
  14. A wise old cache told me once "Don't release a trackable unless you don't want to see it again" That is why I don't release anything I don't mind if it goes missing.
  15. What I am thinking along the lines of is along the lines of a Fizzy Challenge where you have to fill in your entire 81 diff/terr combo. In my example, you didn't REALLY do the cache but were more of a cheerleader. I just think reasonable ALR's were good for certian things.
  16. I was sitting here looking at some of the harder caches I have done regarding terrain. I used to like the ALR feature (additonal log request) for let's say a 5 terrain cache. For example, we have a 5 terrain cache that is on top of an old cement pillar (approx 35ft) that used to be part of an old bridge. I have seen in the logs that some people do that cache as a group (which is fine) but only 1 person of the group is actually doing the terrain part by climbing the ladder or whatever means they used to get the cache. If I was the cache owner I would almost feel jipped that a bunch of finds were logged by people not fully doing the cache. That's why I liked the ALR feature that you could make it that you wanted a pic of each cache with the cache from it's hiding spot. Maybe it's just me, or just a midweek rant
  17. Forgive all the questions/requests but this is the first time I really went to the store to look what was there. I see earlier in this thread there were visors, but don't see them in the store. We they discontinued?
  18. Any chance of a polo shirt with the logo embroidered over right breast? I'd be there so fast there'd be scorch marks on the money. Or a t-shirt with a pocket and the logo above it I'd like to see the 10 year shirt with a small design on the front, but a big design of it on the back. I forgot to add if we could get them in long sleeve as well!!

  20. I have a 4 stage multi. It is a bit harder as it is 3 bisons in the woods that lead to a ammo can. If I put out a multi stage, I think the least I can do is have a ammo can or regular cache at the final. I recently did a 6 stager that really didn't take you anywhere neat (lpc's) and the final was a 35mm under a lpc. I think around trip driving back and forth around town ended up being close to 40 miles.
  21. Yep, I have cached in MOST types of conditions. Like others, if a FTF is on the line, almost nothing will stop me I got a FTF last year in the middle of a tornado watch and the sirens going off!
  22. Let's see... 1) Pee'd on a frozen matchstick in a knothole to free it 2) Have a yellow jeep TB with 0 miles 3) Have got heads up on new caches that would be publishing soon 4) Went into parks after hours on more than 1 ocassion 5) Rehid a cache a lot harder than I found it and the worse..... I stole some swag from my own daughter that she has got from caches to add to my own personal collection of swag stuff
  23. Are there any other "Hotels" of sorts in the area? They are a good idea especially if they in a town that is close to a major HWY or interstate. I have seen/have one in a city setting, and it seems like after the rush of finding the cache was over, the fad was over for the cache. When people were finding my cache, they were trading travelers and such. Now that the cache has been around for almost a year, it's visits are few and far between. Yes, it is winter so hopefully once spring comes around this cache will pick back up.
  24. Let's see.... 1) Garmin 60 CSx with CN 2010 2) Tungsten E2 PDA 3) Swag 4) Flashlight 5) Cellphone 6) MacGyver Tool (yes there is such a thing, got it at Eddie Bauers) 7) small leatherman 8) repair kit 9) water 10) first aid kit 11) pens/pencils
  25. I have a repair kit that I always carry with me. I usually have extra bisons, matchstick containers, baggies, pencils, zip ties, notebooks. I have had about a 90% of cachers being thankfull for helping their cache out. I have replaced a few caches that have gone missing that I had found previously but now get DNF's. I replaced the container and the owner logged that THEY did maint and is good to go.
