  1. This log makes me think that I've been doing this geocaching thing wrong all along
  2. I recently saw a listing that had a $25 Wally world card for FTF and a $5 card for STF. Seemed a bit excessive considering the likelihood of that cache being found withing 24-48hrs. Not that I'd complain! I'm sure some nice tradeables or other geocaching things could be bought with that.
  3. Excellent suggestion! I have a troop of Jr. cachers with me who love EC's and the effort of Virtuals (not so much multi-caches), this also helps plan some sights to see along our way.
  4. Thanks! I see that there are a few tristates on my route that I can take advantage of too, lots to think on here
  5. I'm heading out soon on a road trip that would give me the opportunity to visit 9 provinces/states in a week, perhaps even 3-4 in one day. What are some challenges/goals I can aim for or souvenirs to be earned?
  6. My friend said it's mostly fast food litter, the closest town is a good 45min away and her road is a big loop on an island so it's highly unlikely that it's locals choosing that specific spot. If I were to follow 4wheelin_fool's advice to create a CITO event (that I couldn't attend myself because it's several hours away) wouldn't that be a bit weird? The cache, or the whole series was just placed about a month ago and they are all roadsides related to an August event. I wish people would just reply through the GC messaging system -/
  7. I've lost one of those fun plastic $20s while geocaching. I really should stops stuffing anything of value in my pockets.
  8. A friend of mine noticed some activity near her house, she talked to some of the people and found out that a geocache had been placed along her property line. I've been trying to get her into geocaching for awhile so she is familiar with the concept. Unfortunately there has been a lot of litter left behind since the cache was placed there (it's a rural location not usually prone to littering) and as my friend said, "I thought Geocachers were better than that!". At this rate she is debating whether she should request that the cache be moved or not. I've sent a note to the CO asking if they could put something about CITO on the cache listing but as usual, no reply. Is there anything else my friend or I could do?
  9. As mentioned here already, one of our worst was a rock in a pile of rocks and thorns. There were other better hiding places in the immediate vicinity, I do not understand why the CO chose the rock pile.
  10. We found one of these, we were bush wacking for a cache, I was just about ready to give up (3 of the 4 kids had already given up and were patiently waiting for me to concede defeat) when I saw the perfect spot for a cache. Oh wait, there's already one in there! It was a nice sized ammo can but quite confusing as there were three log books. At least our effort wasn't in vain.
  11. Oh! I've gotten three!....four! Awesome. This is excellent practice, I need to go work on the local one...
  12. I've been staring at one of these from a local cache, I'm usually good with visual puzzles...but not these apparently!
  13. Thanks for the info! I can only seem to find a search for the beginning of a cache name, if TB hotels started with TB it would be easy to pinpoint them. I didn't realize events weren't ideal for trackables, I'll keep that in mind. I've started dispersing them in caches instead.
  14. I'm actually looking for a spot to drop off a bunch of TBs, I was hoping to pass them along at an event but haven't been able to make it to an event yet.
  15. How do I search on the map for TB Hotels?
  16. Funny you should say that... (ironic timing for one of my caches to be intentionally destroyed) The cache in question is located in a park-like setting. I've done a few similar ones but those listings have clarified who owns the land or that permission was granted. It's a small corner lot with no roadside parking and the cache is located a good 300ft into the property. There is a seasonal home/hunt cabin over a hill which is out of sight of GZ but if the owners are up for the weekend, they may have a bit of a surprise finding strangers traipsing around their ATV trail. I really appreciate the advice here, I really don't want to offend anyone or imply that I know more about geocaching, this is great to be able to sound these things off of a crowd
  17. I'm fully aware of how you people like to stalk around here It's not the one by the school. I will send a note to the reviewer as I still haven't received a reply from the CO nor have they updated the listing. They did a few other no-nos with a bunch of their caches with less than idea placement and cache contents (I.e. the dreaded bubbles!) so I'm trying not to nit pick or be too hard on them.
  18. We found a newly listed cache that was clearly on private property, I checked the property lines afterwards from home. I contacted the CO to let them know that it made me uncomfortable to retrieve it and asked that if they do have permission, maybe posting that in the cache description would help. CO has not replied or updated the description. Should I request a NA or just MYOB?
  19. The cache went missing a few years ago so the CO replaced it with the exact same BT. The one I found on the ground is identical to the new cache - same colour shape and form - and the log matches all of the online logs from the past so there is no doubt about it being the original cache, not a different game. The new BT is not big enough for two logs, and the hiding spot is not big enough for two BT. It was very visible on the ground, I can't believe no one else spotted it when they visited the new cache! Normally I would think I should contact the CO to somehow get their BT back to them, but they are inactive. Is it sacrilegious to use the BT for one of my own caches?
  20. I would suggest changing your GC password...
  21. After signing the log in a geocache I turned around and found the identical original bison tube on the ground 2ft away. The current hiding spot and BT were not big enough to place the old cache or log in and the CO is currently an absentee from the game. In this situation, what would you do with the old BT and log?
  22. Unfortunately a geocache is not a Christmas present.
